The complete Striking Back Series is now available in a box set. Follow three MMA fighting brothers who run a domestic violence shelter for women and children.
Book 1 Everly The first time I met Mason Reed, we were standing naked in a bank, surrounded by guns. That should have been a warning. An MMA champion, trainer, and philanthropist, but not a man who gives up easily, Mason is trouble dipped in ink and covered in muscle. Growing up in foster care, I'm well aware that relationships are temporary, and I do my best to avoid them. After a sheet clenching one night stand, I'm happy to move on, but Mason pursues me relentlessly. Sweet, caring, protective, and at times, a bossy control freak, this persistent man has climbed inside my heart, and I can’t seem to shake him. After saving me from a life threatening situation, he’s also won something much harder to obtain. My trust. But does he deserve it? Is his true face the one he shows the world? Or is his charitable, loving manner only a thin veneer?
Book 2 Mason From the moment I saw her, I wanted her in my bed. I should've stopped there. Everly Hall burst into my complicated life and changed it forever. I'm a fighter, but I had no defense against this beautiful, stubborn woman. Now, I stand to lose everything I have, everything I am. My secrets are dangerous, and put more lives at stake than my own. I intended to tell her in time, but my time is up. Everything rests on Everly. This is the conclusion of Mason and Everly's story.
Book 3 Parker Hit it and quit it. One and done. Hump and dump. That has been my philosophy on relationships for the last seven years. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a bad guy. I'm always upfront and truthful with the women I date. I don't promise them anything but a good time. I could've gone on happily sleeping my way through the major metropolitan area if it wasn't for her. The dark haired beauty who haunts my days and keeps me awake at night. Strong and sweet, she makes me reconsider everything I believe about love. Too bad she's completely off limits. I've never been good at following the rules.
Book 4 Alex Ninety- two days. Thirteen weeks. That’s how long it’s been since I lost my love, my best friend. It’s been everything I can do to drag myself out of bed and get back to work, but I know Cooper would want me to move on. I think he’d even be happy if he knew who I want to move on with. The target of my affection, though, may not be so thrilled about my choice. He’s straight. Or he thinks he is. A womanizer of the worst kind with a face and body that keeps a steady stream of willing women at his door, he seems happy to work his way through the entire female population. But there’s no mistaking the way he looks at me when he thinks I’m not paying attention. One way or another, I’ll show him what he really wants. Intended for 18 years and older. Contains sexual content, including sex between two men.
S.M. Shade writes spicy romantic comedies and steamy contemporary romances with relatable characters. Whether it's a good laugh or a good cry, she likes to grab you by your emotions and make you feel. An unashamed Croc enthusiast and poetry nerd, she can usually be found listening to Indie Rock on repeat and watching birds.
I read these books in the box set. I had read a romantic comedy by S.M. Shade and was curious to see her other work. It was also definitely worth the read. I have to start off by saying that I love the idea of Striking back. The Reed family is dedicated to helping women who can't get out of violent relationships on their own. They will do anything it takes to get them off the grid, keep them safe and help them get their lives on track. I really appreciated reading about something like this in a book. Too many women get stuck in relationships that are harmful and don't know how to get out. There should be more things like this is the real world.
Everly I could relate to Everly. She belonged to a bookclub and I love books, haha. Her life wasn't always easy and now that she had some money and time she liked volunteering where she can. She never expected to meet Mason or to fall in love, but she did. A lot of events make things difficult and I wasn't sure what to believe at the end of the book.
Mason This started off right after Everly and I was happy when things cleared up. We learned more about what Mason and his brothers do and it was really interesting. Mason has his own dark past and things that haunt him. While I enjoyed this book, so much happened in such a short period of time that it wasn't all believable to me. I think it would've been better to have less happen or have made this longer.
Parker I loved reading about Parker in the first two books and was happy to read more about him. He seems like your typical player, but it takes only one woman to make him want to change his ways, haha. It's just unfortunate it's not a woman he can have. Once again, a book filled with humor and so much more.
Alex I think he was my favorite brother from the beginning and I felt bad for him. He seemed so happy with the love of his life. It was unfair it didn't work out the way it was supposed to! This was quite an interesting story. I haven't read too many M/M stories, but this one was good! Alex is still my favorite Reed brother after this book!

I read these books as a box set In book 1 we meet Everly and Mason at the scene of a bank robbery, Mason then turns out to be her boss. This was insta love for Mason who then proceeded to chase after Everly to make her realise he was the guy for her. There was a lot of drama going on in the background that kept me turning pages. In book 2 we see more of Everly and Mason and how the deal with their lives when some curveballs are thrown their way. I loved how the author concluded their love story at the end of Mason. In book 3 we meet Parker and Macy. Macy is just out of a relationship and Parker is a bit of a playboy. This book was quite funny in places. The banter between the two main characters was on point. There were some points in the story where I wanted to smack Parker but I feel he redeemed himself in the end. In book 4 we get the conclusion of Alex story which was left off in book 3. Alex moves in with his best friend Ian. There are a few serious subjects dealt with in all of these books but I enjoyed them nonetheless and enjoyed learning more about the Reed brothers.
"You break me into pieces"... "And you put me back together."
This quote sums up this box set for me, each story is about a member of the Reed family who is slightly broken by their family history but self made men trying to pay it forward. Each of the brothers are left wounded by their shared past and are missing the only thing that can heal them - love.
Everly book one in this series is an introduction to the Reed family, starting with a crazy yet humor filled scene of getting naked during a bank robbery. It definitely grabs the reader from the first chapter and begins a sweet story of a man who knows what he wants and won't stop till he gets it. He's very determined but unfortunately the girl of his dreams has her demons which wakes up a few of his...It's an insta love type story but the characters are drawn to one another recognising on an instinctual level their kindred spirits. Can they battle their worst fears to embrace how they feel about each other?
Mason, the second and concluding book the the duo about Everly and Mason begins where the cliffhanger ending left us with jaws agape. With more misconceptions can they ever work things out? Everly is determined to paint Mason as a bad guy and she is so consumed by her fear she risks losing it all. With ghosts from the past further complicating their relationship can she see that her past is jeopardising her future? Can Mason forgive the woman he loves for assuming the worst? With a little help from their friends will this couple that is destined to save each other be able to move on together?
Striking Back is much more than meets the eye and the brothers work tirelessly to help those that no other choice. The underlying themes of this story are very emotive and the brothers strive to help all those that are made helpless by their situation. I found the story uplifting and inspiring, aside from the romance it also brings together people to help others in trouble and was heartwarming. Sensitively handled I enjoyed the subplots, twists and turns.
Parker, the third in the series deals with the gigolo brother that has never seen a woman twice or even considered settling down. Yet something changes when he meets Macy. Never having thought she would ever be a victim of domestic abuse she is under the protection of Striking Back as her ex tries to stalk her. Protected by them she finds comfort in Parker's company but lines become blurred and hearts are fragile things not meant to be broken. The will they won't they element of this story keeps the pace and suspense alive. With a mad ex on the hunt the stakes are high. I loved how the time frames are consistent and we overlap events from the previous books, seeing how the situation impacted on other characters. Can Macy change the self confessed man whore? Can Parker reconcile his feelings with his role within Strike Back?
Alex, the fourth and final book I think is my favourite. Losing his partner in the previous story in a tragic accident left my heart bruised. Battling not only his emotions regarding his childhood, his daily fight against people's prejudices regarding his sexuality he is now consumed by grief. Ian, Everly's best friend and a favourite supporting character of this series, swoops in to support him. Living together, working alongside each other they quickly become more than friends. Ian has a reputation that rivals Parker in the man whore stakes and has never felt an attachment to a woman in a romantic sense and yet he finds himself strangely at ease with Alex. Torn between his heart and people's opinion Ian finds himself most in his torment. Alex has always been the patient brother, the one that has wrestled with his demons and managed to subdue them as he knows too well how his hit head can lead him into trouble but this time is the burden just too heavy? I loved this story as it shows love can be found in the unlikely of places. Sometimes it's not traditional but that does not diminish it's worth. Throughout this series the sense of family and belonging is a strong undercurrent to each story. The characters are lost and then are found, welcomed into the Striking Back family. A great box set that I lost myself in over a rainy weekend.
Well put a fork in me...I am done. This series has captured my heart from book one. The Reed Brothers are totally, 100% swoon worthy. I'm not sure that I can even chose who I love more - Mason, Parker or Alex. Than throw in Ian and Cooper and I am even more done. SM Shade be prepared you are going to have a new stalker on your hands. I am hands down now in love with you ❤️.
Everly - Book One 5 stars
Oh my...Oh my...Oh my...
This book has it all. You meet The Reed Brothers and Everly in this book.
I love how Everly and Mason "officially" meet! Wasn't the best of situations but definitely a memorable one. Each experience from there on out was also a unique one.
This book had me from page one and the end of this book will leave you saying WTF just happened! I'm not sure who to be more mad at Everly or Mason...
On to book two....Everly and Mason better errrrr....just read it and you will know how I feel.
Mason - Book Two
Book two starts off practically where book one left off and you are thrown into Everly and Mason's story again.
Again this book captured me from page one and I was eventually able to calm down and move on from my angst at the ending of book one. I loved learning more about Mason and Everly and how they tick. I couldn't put this book down.
Parker - Book Three
Oh..Parker...Parker...Parker... A manwhore at his finest that he is until....
You come to love Parker in book one and two. Him and his playboy ways. I wondered what type of a woman would it take to bring him to his knees.
Parker and Macy meet at a time when Macy isn't at her strongest. Parker steps in as her protector and an attraction is formed on both sides.
Another 5 star read by SM Shade! I have devoured the first two books and the third was the same.
OMG...OMG...OMG... What the heck just went down? I'm shocked, stunned and OMG shocked! The ending - holy crap that came out of left field. WOW! Can't wait to see how Book Four goes! WOW!
Book Four - Alex
Book Four picks up where you left off in book three and my heart was broken.
Friendship and Family is a huge part of this book. What it means to have family and friends who will just about do anything for you.
Well helloooooo....totally shocked about what plays out here but also so happy at the same time. I wish I could tell you more but I would ruin the experience for you!
I cheered so hard at the end of this book...LOVED IT!
Overall Review....
This Series kicked @ss and I am in love with the Reed Brothers, their significant others and friends. I couldn't get enough. These four books were devoured as quickly as my eyes could read the words and didn't want to or them down. Each book was filled with just enough angst, drama, Sex and when I say Sex I mean steamy hot sex and more!
Loved...Loved...Loved!!!
The Reed Brothers never failed to impress me one way or the other!
I f'in loved this series! One-click today you too will love it!
Book one I gave 2 stars : This one was so full of misunderstandings it was ridiculous. Everly knows the guy she is going out with owns a shelter for abused women, but when she sees him with a woman she immediately assumes he is sleeping with her. What?! He receives a phone call from a woman, she assumes he is sleeping with her. What?! Meanwhile her best friend is a guy. It is one thing if the reader does not know his secret and we are waiting to find out what is really going on, but we know he owns an abused women's shelter as well, so I knew it would be a misunderstanding. And how about she ask him about it instead of just running away! I couldn't be with someone who constantly thinks I'm cheating!
Book 2- 3 stars: This one was better than the first book. Luckily the misunderstanding cliffhanger in the first book gets settled at the beginning of this book. I like that Mason was mad at the beginning about Evie always accusing him of things without talking to him about it. We do find out why Everly does not trust men, which is good. This one had a lot going on but it actually kept me reading, which was also good.
Book 3-4 stars: Thank goodness for this book or the collection would have been a two star rating. I enjoyed this one a lot more than the first two books. I was confused at the beginning though because Parker and Macy introduce themselves, but they met in book 2. Book 3 starts where book 2 started and I think that should have been told to the reader. I assumed book 3 started where book 2 ended. Once I had that straightened out I really liked Parker and Macy. Parker is with a new woman every night but there is something about Macy that gets his attention. The problem is that she is a woman at the shelter and is off limits. If Parker lets his guard down for even a moment bad things could happen, which of course they do.
Book 4 - 2 stars: This was my first M/M romance and it was with a straight guy? What? Why couldn't the author have 2 gay guys getting together. I don't think gay guys turn straight guys gay. Ian has a different woman every night but because Alex, who is gay, stays at his house, they fall in love. So I already did not like the premise. I ended up skimming the book to finish it. If the book would have just been their love story maybe it would have been okay (suspension of reality aside) but there were multiple side plots going on (cancer, an inmate on death row, a kid at the abuse shelter) and their relationship was instant. It just didn't jive at all. But of course it all ends happily ever after. I have no problem reading a M/M book, I have heard they can be just as romantic, but this was not the one to start with.
Everly-Book 1 An unconventional meeting leads to a quick relationship fraught with danger and mistrust. First meeting during a bank robbery Mason sees Everly and relentlessly pursues her for a date. Everly having been burned in past relationship is weary and makes Mason work for her time. As they begin their relationship a stalker attacks and misunderstandings cause Evie to doubt Mason and run. This book is a great first start to the Mason/Evie story. Chemistry is off the charts. Story ends in a cliffhanger to be continued in Mason's story.
Mason-Book 2 Picking up where book one leaves off Mason and Evie try to reconcisle they differences and put all the doubt and mistrust behind them. As they navigate their new love together the past rears its ugliness and brings new challanges. A great, emotional conclusion to Mason and Evie's story. Must read book one to fully understand.
Parker- Book 3 Parker the goes through women like there's no tomorrow, no commitments, no promises that is until Macy. Macy is a friend of Parker's new sister-in-law and needs help recovering from an attack by her ex-boyfriend. Never one interested in relationships Parker is confused by his ever growing feelings for Macy but keeping his distance is practically impossible. This story is a wonderful reforming of anti-relationship Parker into a marriage minded guy story. It takes awhile and Macy gives him a run for his money. This story can stand alone but its a great follow up to S.M. Shades book 1 & 2 in this series.
Alex-Book 4 After reading the previous books in the collection I was starting to get disappointed because I wanted to read a story about Ian but holy hotness I was not expecting this twist. Alex and Ian get a story, together. Alex is the lost one, reeling from the lose of his love due to a car accident. Worrying about Alex all his family convinces him to room with Ian in an effort to heal. As they spend each day together Alex begins developing feelings for the very straight and very commitment phobic Ian. A health scare for Ian forces him to confront an expected life altering realization and he begins a relationship with Alex. But of not all is smooth sailing and they face challenges. A winding journey of self discovery and finding love. My favorite in this series.
It was hard not to love the Reed Brothers. Their work alone made my heart melt, add their crazy good looks and interesting personalities - it was the perfect mix.
I liked that these stories were emotional yet there was an amazing banter between the characters. There were times through each one of these boys’ stories you wanted to reach into the kindle and shake someone. Each Brother had to go through some turmoil to get their significant other, it was not all easy – but they all endured and their road made the story that much better.
Everly and Mason had their challenges with their pasts meeting the present. I loved the way became the focus (kids in a story always get me) not only for his dad, but for Everly and his uncles too.
Parker and Macy, these 2 were probably my favorite. I loved Parker owned his behavior and had his reasons for being the way he was. The banter between these 2 was fun and their friendship was easy. After everything Macy has been through all I wanted was for her to stay strong and be happy and was glad to see her come out on top. Kudos to Macy’s occupation ;)
Alex, Cooper & Ian – this one was a little more difficult for me to handle, but I thought it was done well. My heart went out for Alex after is loss of Cooper, but Ian turned into an amazing friend and support for him – just like he has always been for Everly. I think it was a stretch to take a manwhore like Ian and put him in this situation, but you could feel the turmoil he was going through and that this was not the easy choice for him.
Kyle – I need to take a moment to focus on him, even though he was an older child and had a smaller part - I liked him in this story. I love how the whole family embraced him and did what they could to make him prosper. He fit right in and I loved how Cody took to him.
Throughout all the challenges the brothers always had each other and the meddling Ev
The Striking Back series by S. M. Shade is an MMA contemporary romance set of 4 novellas centring around the 3 Reed brothers, Mason, Parker and Alex and the work they do in their gym and Domestic Violence Shelter they run together. Wow, these four novellas (named Everly, Mason, Parker and Alex) make up one epic and compelling journey. No topic is off limits and S. M. Shade has done an amazing job with this overall saga.
Everly - I'm in love with each and every character. I love the banter and quick wit between Everly and Mason and Alex and Parker. They are all great. I loved the insight into the fabulous charities that are in the book too and I hope there are places like that that really exist. An emotional introduction to the series. Mason - So many revelations come out in Masons book and my immediate reaction was heartbreak and anger, but it's their stories and they had to be told. Author has a way of pulling on the emotional heartstrings. The revelations in this book explain so much of the responses in book 1. Parker - Is the playboy brother with no intention of seeing a girl more then once or settling down at all in the future, until Macy. But she is off limits as she is a victim and he's meant to protect her, not take advantage. Parkers instalment overlaps with the events in Book 2. Parker does end with a bit of a devastating cliffhanger so be prepared. Alex - the last Reed brother, will he find his own HEA like his brothers. Amongst all the hurt and devastation, Alex's book does have a few cute surprises that are revealed. It was great to see a different kind of relationships develop in this instalment. So heartfelt and heartbreaking at the same time and I'm thankful that SM Shade didn't shy away from an M/M relationship.
Laughs, tears, taboo, angst, this series has everything and these characters are so well written. It was a pleasure to read. I voluntarily reviewed this advanced reader copy and I have not been compensated in any way.
I read this series after I had read the “In Safe Hands” series which was the wrong was round.
This series is centred around the Reed brothers and their work in their shelter for women and children also their MMA gym.
Book One - Everly A volunteer at Striking Back and also at a children’s group home - Everly is our main character. The meet cute between Everly and her love interest Mason is hilarious. After an initial back and forth in a cafe, Everly heads to the bank where she again runs into Mason. While they are chatting “The Naked Bandits” arrive on the scene... their “bit” is to make everyone in the bank strip to their birthday suit - LMAO!
After a one night liason with Mason, Everly thinks she can let it go but Mason has other ideas.
This is a gripping start to the series.
_______________________________
Book Two - Mason This book alternates between Mason and Everly POV
The second book delves into the fact that Mason is instantly in love with Everly regardless of her deep rooted insecurities ans emotional trauma.
I was glued to this book, subject matter is occasionally emotional, the content is fabulous and I really cannot get enough.
_______________________________
Book 3 - Parker The man-whore of the series (with the exception on Ian), finally meets his match in a quiet and unassuming Macy.
Parker knows he shouldn’t but he cannot help himself, Macy is in the care of Striking back after escaping her a audible boyfriend.
The twists and turns of this book kept me rapt to this book.
_______________________________
Book 4 - Alex This book is focused around Alex and Ian. As Ian helps Alex to deal with the loss of Cooper.
Alex nurses Ian through a bout of ill health and their feelings for each other grow beyond the realms of friendship.
The sexual tension between these two characters is HOT!!
Great series - really enjoyed
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I fell for every character in each book! This was the four book series. Book 1: Everly Ev was just trying to go about her day when a guy is flirting with her. She avoids him and leaves but then she was thrown into a crazy dangerous situation. Mason saw this woman and for some reason he couldn't get her out of his mind. Then she walks in and all of a sudden they were in a dangerous situation. Mason steps up to protect her. Ev doesn't trust men. Mason is out to prove he isn't most men. Ex-MMA fighter with a heart of gold. Their story is explosive and gentle. I loved it! Book 2: Mason You must read Book 1 for this one to make sense. It is their story from his point plus the continuation. In both books you meet Ev's best Friend Ian and Mason's brothers Parker and Alex. Mason has a secret. Baggage he carries. He and his brothers carry. It is because of this baggage that they do so much good. They run a shelter for women and children and as they all are fighters, they don't hold back when it comes to protecting those that are abused. Book 3: Parker Parker is a manwhore. He goes through women like water. He's thirsty then once sated he is done with them and moves on to his next bedmate. "Hump and dump". Until he meets Macy. He never thought of settling down but he can't get her out of his mind. She was one they needed to protect but who would protect his heart. He should be protecting her not wanting her and having her. Their chemisty is off the charts but will her ex keep them apart? Book 4:Alex Alex found true love in book 3. Alex is gay and Cooper was his everything until Cooper was killed in a car crash. His world died. He couldn't bear to see his brothers hovering so when Ian offered for him to stay at his place he jumped at it. Ian is a womanizer and Alex is gay so this will work out great. Until Alex realizes he has feelings for Ian. Ian cares for Alex as a good friend. I mean he loves women after all. Ian's world is turned upside down and he is about to find out what it means to truly love someone. But will he be too late? All books should be read in order. It was an awesome series. S.M. Shade is one of my favorite authors. I love her books. They are always the perfect mix of love, controversy and sex.
Everly- wow this girl is firecracker because she has been burned a lot in her life a lot by men! Her 2 bestfriends are her world one is a guy even tho he’s a Man whore she still loves him as a brother. She meets mason quite a few times but she falls for him but some things happen and mason tries to be her Prince Charming and did I meantion he’s also her boss.
Mason striking back book 2: this is book two it picks up where book 1 ended and so many emotions and drama packed book! Everly and mason these two are funny and does everly finally get her happy ending but when masons past show up will that scare everly or bring them closer? Ahh such a great conclusion to these two
Parker book 3: this is book 3 complete standalone but you should read book 1 & 2 first wow parker is Macy’s body guard and she is forbidden and he’s also a play boy for sure! But will he stay away from this forbidden fruit or not listen! Such a great edition to this story loved parker and Macy.
Alex book four: this is book four! Alex loses the love of his life and Ian thinks he should get Alex to move in with him so he’s not lonely but what Happens when they get feelings. My first m/m book and I literally cried throughout the book and it was really good! I enjoyed this whole box set!
I loved this series so much more than I thought I would! Book 1 and 2 are about Mason and Everly getting together. Its a great telling of 2 people that were orphaned children and how they took the life that they were given and did some really great things with it instead of wallowing in self pity. There are more than a few spots where there is some suspense. Book 3 is happening mostly at the same time as the other 2 books although they are from the perspective of Macy and Parker. Macy is hiding from her abusive boyfriend while getting closer to Parker. Again lots of hot scenes along with some great suspense and story line. Book 4 is about Alex. It is an M/M romance! But personally I had gotten so attached to this family in the first 3 stories that I was really just happy that Alex was getting the love he deserved as well!..(I wont name who his love interest is because it was a pleasant surprise to me). All together it was a great series that I really enjoyed. I am so glad that I had the chance to read them as a set. I may have been a little on edge between the first 2 books (it ends in a mild cliffhanger). But I loved these characters so much that I was quite eager to keep reading to see what would happen with them!
This is my review on all 4 books I 1st read the 1st 3 individually then i got the box set so i could reread them so i could read the 4th. Everly is the 1st in the series and was my 1st by the author I really liked it and I knew the series was going to be a good one. We were left with a cliffhanger but that was ok cause I was more than prepared for Mason. At 1st I wanted to come thru my kindle and smack Mason, but the more I read the more I fell in love with Mason and the others at Striking Back the things they do for women and their children that have been beat, verbally abuse by boyfriends or husbands is incredible. Then we get to book 3 Parker and I fell even more in love with Parker. He is Mr Bad Ass himself with no feeling for anyone but himself until a Ms. Macy arrives. Even though Macy comes from a very abusive relationship she is still a very strong independent woman and has no problem putting Parker in his place. the 4th book is Alex's story it is my least favorite but still a good book. Over all a great series. All the books can be read as STANDALONE, but I would recommend reading all in order.
Three brothers who run a domestic violence shelter for women and children because of their past. They will steal your heart as each of them fall in love.
What was great about these books were the characters. You have strong alpha males but they have a heart of gold. Because of their past they are determined to help women and children in domestic violence situations. Each one of them have some sort of "problem" they deal with. Each brother is different. Mason is dealing with his past, Parker is a man-whore, and Alex is dealing with the tragedy of loss.
The women in these stories are strong, broken, stubborn and are kick ***. Even though they have been put through h*!l they are survivors. It was great to see them bring the alpha males to their knees.
This series was about love, heartache, loss, trouble, violence, friendship and family. It is a rollercoaster of a ride that will keep you turning the pages. Great storyline with characters that make you feel.
So good, I absolutely LOVED this series! I started reading this author through a different book Scarlet Toys, which I also really enjoyed. She writes such great characters, so funny, and these stories! Brought tears to my eyes, more than once. I loved all the brothers, Macy kicks ass, this was my first time reading any M/M and I gotta say, I don't know if all are like that but it wasn't what I expected. I really enjoyed Alex's story (the M/M) he's such a sweetheart. If M/M isn't something your interested in reading you can skip it (its the last story) it would still make sense and everything but its SUCH a good story, I think after reading about Alex in the first three books, you'll want to read it to get to his HEA. This just has everything, you'll laugh, you'll cry, theres action, suspense, it runs the gamut! Whatever you are looking for, you'll find it in this series!
This is a great series. The three Reed brothers are all strong, loyal, snarky, and funny; and the lovers they end up with are their perfect matches. There is so much to love about all these stories. None of the main characters has had an easy life, and they all have personal issues to overcome. The dialogue is quick and witty, and the emotions are believable and gut-wrenching. I hurt when they hurt, and I laughed a lot. Each story is full of love, and the sex scenes are smoking. The gay romance is just as romantic and heartfelt as the two opposite sex pairings, and it does not come across as gay porn, despite what another review states. This author is new to me, but I am now very much a fan. Great writing, terrific one-liners, and characters I love - these things will bring me back for more.
We can't make ourselves fall in love. It comes out of the blue when we least expect it. We can try to force it, but it's never quite right.
As Alex tells Ian, there is no supposed to, no obligation, we feel what we feel and need to let it find us naturally. When love inevitably finds us, we need to remember that there is also no perfect way. We need to love fiercely but take it one day at a time.
This was the most surprising of the series but the most emotionally charged one. Coming to terms with the loss of the opportunity for a past family leads to establishing a future family. Coming to terms with the loss of a parent that didn't truly understand what it meant to love, took courage and having siblings and found family helps Alex deal with his father's execution.
I really enjoyed this series. The Reed brothers are all awesome men. They are all strong, handsome and stubborn men. All of them are also very caring, sweet and gentle when the occasion calls for it. I love that they don’t let the terrible and tragic experiences of their pasts drag them down but instead choose to make something wonderful for people who have been victims too. A shelter where they can go and be protected. I felt like the Reed brothers went above and beyond for the people in their care. Although I liked them all, I think my favorite was Macy and Parker’s story. I also liked how Alex rescues the kid in his story. Every kid deserves to know they are loved and cared for and I thought it was very touching what Alex and his family did for Kyle.
I loved that this was a boxset for I didn't have to wait to get the next book and found out what happened, I just kept jumping from one book to the next. I loved the first book starting off with Everly and Mason and I just really loved this story. I started off with them staring at each other across the dinner where she was having breakfast with her friend. To them meeting and the story just got so more intense and good. The next three stories with the second being Mason point of view was just as good as the first book and the next thing I know I'm reading about parker and then Alex and I can truly say this author is one talented person for it's one thing to write one good book but to write four is great and impressive. I truly loved each of these books.
I love this box set. It introduces us to the Reed brothers and oh what fine brothers they are (well in my head)! It takes us through the life and love of Mason, Parker and Alex. Mason and Everly meet in strange circumstances but have more in common than Everly knows. Mason is determined to date her but there are major obstacles in the way. Parker and Macy meet when he is supposed to be protecting her from a violent Ex. Alex’s book is MM. Alex is trying to recover from the death of Cooper and has been staying with Ian and helping him fix up his house. SM Shade is just one of those authors that can take you straight in to the story from the first words.
I love when I can get all the stories in one place. Striking Back is even a perfect title. I adored each of the brothers in their own way. They were true heroes in a world where sometimes it’s just too hard to get out of a situation by yourself. I was hooked by the introduction of Mason and Everly and then Mason’s persistence. I really liked how we got each of their stories and HEA’s.
Once I started the first book, I had to read them all. This is my first encounter with this author and I am adding her to my TBR shelf.
I really hope you grab this series and enjoy this family as much as I did.
These books have everything you could want in a romance series. Fighters with massive hearts that go above & beyond, they're heroes, in the truest sense, to the ones they fall in love with & to all of the people they step in to help out and keep safe!!
You will not be disappointed with a single book or page in this series!! My personal favorite is Alex. It was my first ever M/M read & was handled so amazingly well by this author. I've since gone on to read all of her books as well more m/m stories by others. Outstanding!!!
Woah! This was my first set of books by S.M. Shade. We meet Mason, Everly, Parker & Alex. I didn't really know what to expect with this series. I don't want to go into too much detail for fear of ruining the book. Mason meets Everly who volunteers at his organization Striking Back and another place with kids. Mason is very persistent trying to get Everly's attention. Will she give in or run?
Everly, slowly learns what Mason does within his organisation. As far as Parker goes...has he finally found his one?
This set is well work having. It is story telling at it's best. It grabs your emotions right at the start and puts you through the wringer. It makes you laugh and cry. It horrifies you but also leaves you with a warm glow. You end up feeling like the characters are people that you know and You get invested in their lives. You won't want to put it down so make sure you have plenty of time put aside to read it and don't forget your tissues! Highly recommended!
This was the first time I had read books by this author and I was very glad I did. This box set chronicles the journey of some very swoon worthy brothers. The books are filled with drama, romance, and suspense. Each story is unique and unpredictable. I love how the author builds on the stories while giving glimpses of previous characters. I really enjoyed this set. The books are well written, exciting, and intriguing. I will definitely be reading more books by this author!
This is an amazing series! I love how all the characters tie into each book and you don't lose their stories going from book to book. The first 2 books are Ev and Mason and and the author grabs you from the start. S.M. Shade grabs you and pulls you in keeping the pages turning. I had never read a M/M romance before and I wasn't sure what to expect. It was a great romance story. Don't let the idea of M/M scare you away from this series!
I'm glad I read these four books as a boxed set. I got hooked after Everly's book and was invested in the whole group, so I had to keep reading until every story was read. I loved what this group did to help those who have been hurt and need to escape. I loved how different each character was and their love for each other shined through, especially in the hard times and with all the twists and turns in this series. This will be a series that I will read again.
I loved the story line and the characters for all 4 books. Each book consisted of mutliple plot twists and conflicts. Some of these story lines felt rushed, the lead up was great, but the actual incidents lasted less than a chapter. I felt like a little more time could have been spend on the actual conflict and resolution. Overall, it was a worthy read, I would read this author again.
I am honestly and voluntarily reviewing an advanced reader's copy of this book 📚 These books are all about the Reed brothers and who they love. This series is a fast paced, page turning read, easily done in a weekend. Mason, Parker, and Alex are great characters, Everly, Macy, and Ian are well matched to these brothers. Enjoyed the series!!
If there is one series you need to read before you die, this is it. OMG. I love the men from Striking Back. All so hit and broody in their own ways. What they fight for and believe is way beyond anything I have ever read before. Taking the law into their own hands is something so amazingly hot to read.
