Midnight Breed #14.6

Midnight Unbound

Rate this book
A lethal Breed warrior is called upon by his brethren in the Order to bodyguard a beautiful young widow he’s craved from afar.

As a former Hunter bred to be a killing machine in the hell of Dragos's lab, Scythe is a dangerous loner whose heart has been steeled by decades of torment and violence. He has no room in his world for love or desire--especially when it comes in the form of a vulnerable, yet courageous, Breedmate in need of protection. Scythe has loved--and lost--once before, and paid a hefty price for the weakness of his emotions. He's not about to put himself in those chains again, no matter how deeply he hungers for lovely Chiara.

For Chiara Genova, a widow and mother with a young Breed son, the last thing she needs is to put her fate and that of her child in the hands of a lethal male like Scythe. But when she's targeted by a hidden enemy, the obsidian-eyed assassin is her best hope for survival... even at the risk of her heart.

5 Sexy Scythe Stars

Okay so even though I have loved this series I haven't really cared for the novellas. They have all felt rushed and lacking. Not this one. I loved this one. Maybe it's because I love Scythe. Maybe it's because I met the couple in the last book. Whatever it was I loved loved loved this one. I have a thing for cold, standoffish, hard men that melt when they fall in love. Scythe was a hard damaged male with a shitty past and tons of demons. Chiara was a sweet and brave woman and mother. She hadn't had that easy of a life but she was a fighter. I think she made a great mate for Scythe. Their relationship didn't feel rushed even though the book was under 130 pages. This read had plenty of passion, kick ass action, and a super sweet ending overall this read was a big hit for me!

Breed warrior Scythe
Special ability: Gen One warrior, so he has a number of abilities: locks turned free and the flashing sensors are disabled under the power of his mind; sensing danger; heightened sense of hearing etc.
Age: 36 years old

Breed mate Chiara Genova,
Special ability: Screaming resulting in pure energy
Occupation: Vineyard owner
Mark place: Beneath her right breast

Settings: Italy (Rome area, Bari,Potenza, Matera)

It was only six weeks ago. Back in Matera, when he’d first laid eyes on Chiara Genova.

This is the story of the young widow and single mother Chiara and the tortured and extremely antisocial Breed Scythe. Their story began in the previous book “Midnight Untamed” where Scythe helped Savage and Bella. Now Scythe has to do bodyguard duty for the beautiful Chiara because an unknown enemy is posing a threat to her and her son.

There are so many things I loved in this book:
1. The settings: Italy, Rome, a club at Bari, a villa at the countryside with an attached vineyard
2. The strong foundation of Order’s Rome team, under the orders of Commander Lazaro Archer: We are now familiar with all the warriors of the team.
3. Scythe: The perfect antihero, trained as a killer since he was a baby, scarred, tortured, antisocial, grumpy, moody BUT ready to be in love again and to forgive himself with a little help from Chiara.
4. Chiara: The perfect companion. A strong woman, a fine mother, a forgiving person, a sweet female with uncountable inner strength.
5. The sexual chemistry between Scythe and Chiara: They keep resisting the pull and they try to stay away from each other. When they stop pretending that they don’t care, their passion will be without limits.
6. Dragos’s Hunters: After Hunter in book ‘Deeper Than Midnight’ and Nathan in book ‘Crave The Night’, Scythe is another Breed that was created by Dragos to be an assassin and he was saved when the collars were removed by the Order.

It seems that ‘Midnight Unbound’ is the perfect opportunity for the author to reintroduce the Hunters and start a spinoff of the Midnight Breed. Of course I am looking forward to it!

[Background information: Trygg is Scythe’s brother, Savage is Trygg’s comrade and Bella is Chiara’s sister in law.
I would suggest that you read ‘Midnight Untamed’ before you start ‘Midnight Unbound’, because (a) it is the beginning of the love story between Scythe and Chiara and (b) there is also the wonderful love story of Savage and Bella.]

****4.5 Stars!!!!****

Another novella in the Midnight Breed series! Even though this is a short story, I was impressed at the amount of action in it right from the start! This story really packed a punch, and I fell in love with Scythe. He is one of the Hunter's, and he actually is scarred as well as he has only one hand. That is quite rare for one of the Breed males; but just because he is missing a hand doesn't mean he is weak in any way!

Scythe is asked to protect a Breed Mate who he is very attracted to...but not willing to act on his attraction...he comes across extremely gruff and moody. His moods don't scare Chiara away, nor her son who is a 3 year old Breed. Chiara is widowed but she struggles to trust any male after the betrayal of her deceased mate. As much as Scythe and Chiara fight their attraction...they end up becoming closer and closer, until a bond between them becomes very real. A bond in the Breed world means way more than a marriage...in fact....it is for life. Will these two be able to overcome their fears enough to give love another try??

I really loved this one! Again, because it's a novella I can't in good conscience rate it a 5 stars...but it was pretty darn close for me! Lara Adrian did a beautiful job with this short story, and I can't wait for the next one. Next up is Scythe's brother, Trygg's book!!

Scythe and chiara are one of my fave couple's!!! I have loved scythe from the beginning, he is by far one of the sexist gen one breed warriors and I wanted him to have his happy ending. So much pain and suffering this breed male indured and I wanted his breed mate to be worthy of him and chiara was!!! Those two set this story on fire with their chemistry and passion and in the end these two found love and happiness. I love Lara's writing and her world of breed warriors and their breed mates just keeps getting better and better.

5 Deadly Gen One Stars!!

I was so excited to read that we were getting Scythe's story, he totally captivated me when we met him in Midnight Untamed!! Everyone who read that book must have felt the connection between him and the young widow Breedmate Chiara and her young son Pietro.

Scythe is a Gen One Hunter created by Dregos who has a heartbreaking backstory (as all of Dregos Hunters do) and Chiara is a widow in danger because of her deceased mates lies and deceit.

 photo PicsArt_1489387570011_zpsaz67meqw.jpg

When someone out for revenge attacks Chiara in her home The Order enlist Scythe to keep her safe and find out who her enemy is. Scythe balks at being anyone's protector, he's a loner, he has very little contact with people (vampires and human alike) and prefers his solitude, but, when he learns it's Chiara he will stop at nothing to provide the protection she needs and will destroy anyone who brings her harm!!

Once again, Lara Adrian does not disappoint!! This novella is only 120 pages or so but is not lacking in any way, including the epilogue.

Now I need Trygg's story! Hopefully we'll get it in Midnight Unleashed, a novella due out Oct 2017....will he be paired with exiled Atlantean Tamisia?....we shall see, but, first we'll get Claimed in Shadows (Midnight Breed, Book #15) featuring Aric Chase, with a release date Aug 2017....so far away!!!

I always look forward to when Lara Adrian releases a new book and this novella set in the Midnight Breed world was a nice surprise. This is 14.6 in the series and while you should be reading this series in order, I think MIDNIGHT UNBOUND can be read nicely as a standalone too.

One of my favorite things about this series are the heroes. Adrian always creates such stunningly gorgeous men and Scythe is no exception. If you remember a few years back when PNR was all the rage, this series was something special because it has a little bit of a Sci Fi aspect to it. Still now, this series continues to get better. I normally don’t like novellas as much in general. However, I find that Adrian delivers the same amount of intrigue and danger as one of her full-length novels. That’s quite a feat.

The heroine, Chiara Genova, is a very admirable character. As the mother of a young Breed son, she has unfortunately found that her and her son’s lives are in danger. They require Scythe’s protection while the rest of the Order deals with the rest. At first, Scythe is quite grumpy, but I think it’s actually because he already has feelings for Chiara since the first time they’ve met. Beneath that steely exterior is really a soft heart and I really loved getting to see that unfold with the story.

MIDNIGHT UNBOUND is everything I wish for in a novella. If you aren’t reading the Midnight Breed series, then you are seriously missing out on some awesome book boyfriends. Just keep in mind though, Scythe is already claimed by me!

It was such an AMAZING feeling to be diving back into the dangerous and sensual world of the Midnight Breed. I've been hooked on Lara Adrian's Midnight Breed Series for as long as I can remember. Ms. Adrian is one of the PNR authors that steered me into this genre, and I've been a goner ever since. I started reading this series before I had a kindle, so I have paperbacks from early on in the series that have been worn down significantly, because when I wanted m PNR fix, Adrian was my GO-TO author.

"He wanted all of her. His veins throbbed with the urge to possess her. To make her his in every way."

MIDNIGHT UNBOUND is Adrian's latest delectable treat from her very popular sexy vampire series. Although this is a novella, it reads like a full-fledged novel. So much action, tons of suspense, and a healthy dose of alpha male lovin'. MIDNIGHT UNBOUND is the story of former Hunter, Scythe and the beautiful widow, Chiara Genova. You will recognize these two from Lara's previous Midnight Breed Novella, MIDNIGHT UNTAMED. It's important to keep in mind, that MIDNIGHT UNBOUND can be read as a stand-alone. Each book in this series can be. So dive in knowing that you will instantly become addicted and will want to get your hands on as many of these books as you possibly can.

"You are also the most extraordinary woman I've ever met. And I would do anything-sacrifice any part of me, including my last breath-to keep you safe."

Who doesn't love reading about a gorgeous, intimidating and brooding killing machine getting brought to his knees by a beautiful and feisty woman? Right! It's perfect! Chiara brings the light to Scythe's darkness and apart from the suspense and the danger, the love story that grows is absolutely beautiful and touching. If you are looking for a fast-paced, paranormal romantic suspense, full of passion and heart, look no further than MIDNIGHT UNBOUND. Make room on your TBR for more Midnight Breed novels, because you will become HOOKED from the start!

I loved this book even though I normally prefer full stories to novellas.

Somehow the author made this short story feel familiar so the pace was pretty fast. As I was reading this story, I was wondering, who is Trigg, Savage and Bella and what book were they in.

Scythe is a Gen One Warrior created by Dragos back in Deeper than Midnight to be his assassins/hunters. He gets a request from the Order to protect a widow Chiara Genova and her 3 yr old son Pietro, and this loner hunter is forced to interact with the woman he can’t get out of his head for the past few months. Their journey to discover who was after Chiara gave them the opportunity to really get to know each other in an isolated environment, which also created more intimacy.

The way the story was written was so smooth and the author kept the tension and chemistry between Scythe and Chiara so palpable. The narrator had a foreign accent that made the characters extra sexy. The anticipation of them getting to get together kept me reading just as much as the mystery of the stalker’s identity. I was able to deduce that I didn’t read the novella prior to this one and that’s where they were introduced. Scythe and Chiara were a pleasurable couple to read and I am amazed that Lara Adrian keeps this series so engaging.

This couple is one of my favorites in these new Gen One hunter stories. They just fit and this story hit the spot for me.

I received this book for free from in exchange for an honest review.

4.5 stars!

I loooooved this novella! A short, romantic and steamy read with action, excitement and heavy on the paranormal – just the way I like it! It’s a book that takes place within the Midnight Breed world, but sits outside of the overarching series storyline so you don’t have to have read all of the previous books in order to enjoy this one. Scythe and Chiara were introduced in the preceding novella, Midnight Untamed, and from that glimpse of chemistry between them, I have been so excited to read their story.

Scythe is a broody, seemingly cold-hearted Gen One warrior who was born in a laboratory as part of an underground breeding program and raised to be a ruthless killer. Upon his release 20 years previously, he has tried to find his place in the world and has at last settled in Italy, where he lives a solitary life, but is in contact with his half-brother, a member of the Order in Rome.

Chiara is a beautiful breedmate widow who is raising her son on her own following the death of her Breed husband. It wasn’t the best of marriages, and though she grieved his death she realises that she is better off alone. She remains at his family’s vineyard and has taken the running of it upon her shoulders, finding peace and joy in her simple life with her beloved little boy.

Scythe and Chiara met in the last book, when he grudgingly took her and her little boy, and other members of the Breed, into his protection in his home. At the time there interactions were nothing but broody stares, but they have been unable to forget about each other since that time.

Weeks later, when Chiara is suddenly under threat by an unknown member of the Breed, Scythe is called in to protect her and hunt down her attacker. With the two of them alone at her vineyard, it becomes harder and harder to hide their attraction to each other, but while Chiara is keen to explore the connection between them, Scythe is too damaged by his past to even consider it. And with danger imminent, and the sexual tension building, the stage is set for all kinds of action, passion and intensity.

“You are a complication to be sure, Chiara Genova … You are also the most extraordinary woman I’ve ever met. And I would do anything – sacrifice any part of me, including my last breath – to keep you safe.”

I loved Scythe and Chiara!!! Their story is told in dual POV, and I could feel the chemistry between them. I could understand where both of them were coming from as they considered their feelings, and I love that Chiara is the one to give Scythe the much-needed push to do something about it.

“Chiara.” Her name was a raw warning. “This isn’t a good idea.”
“I think it’s an excellent idea” She stepped in closer to him. “There’s something going on here with us. I know you feel it too. I know you don’t want to feel it. I’d like to deny it, too, but I can’t.”

Their fall for each other is hard and fast, and watching the transition of Scythe as he gives himself over to all he is feeling is absolutely gorgeous! And it’s all kinds of sexy!

“My brave, beautiful Chiara,” he muttered. “God help you if you want me as much as I want you.”

Though it doesn’t impact the overall story, I love these novellas which add to the overall Midnight Breed world, and Scythe and Chiara’s story was heartwarming, sexy and emotional, and beautifully romantic, and definitely strong enough to stand on its own. I loved it!

4.5 stars.

The new generation of Breeds are not doing it for me. These novellas are really starting to get ridiculous in terms of pacing and an actual plotline.

This was a continuation of events in Midnight Untamed (#14.5). Chiara, our dim-witted heroine, is in danger from people who want her as a Breedmate and in payment for her dead shitty ex-husband's debts. We have one plot moppet, which shows up just for one scene in the beginning and then in the epilogue. Scythe, a Hunter-type of Breed, is tasked with protecting Chiara back in her home and luring the bad guys so they can be dealt with once and for all. Scythe cares deeply about his boner; it takes up about a third of the book, all the feelings he has about his boner. Boner, Boner, Boner. Chiara is also mad with horniness that comes from being sans kid duty, in mortal danger, and cooped up with a virile walking boner Breed. The bad guys finally come out to play in the second to last chapter and are dealt with in about 5 pages. Also within those 5 pages, Chiara figures out her power (that is part of the basic world building of the MB series from the original set of books).

This was just bad in world building (vineyard in Italy, but it could be a farm in the middle of Iowa for all the descriptions), the Rome office of the Order can't be bothered to help out (which goes against the original Order members' pledge), and I didn't find an iota of chemistry between Chiara and Scythe, although there was ample chemistry between Scythe and his boner.

Overall, a very weak effort in the MB series.

With the addition of the Gen One Warriors being released into the world we have an endless well to pull stories from. Especially since each lab test is coming out of a broken and abusive background. I mean they were trained to kill in a madman's army from a young age.
These characters were introduced in the last story. (Once again I advice to read these in order) Our heroine was in an abusive marriage with a wastoid of a husband, so she comes with her own baggage. She also has a son that she would die to protect. Or kill to protect as the case may be. Our hero is an angry loner. But, he likes her a lot and her son. He will kill to protect the two of them, or just because he sees someone he thinks should be dead.
This is one of the better of the novellas in this story. Maybe because we have two stories to develop the characters or because it is just excellent.

I have been looking forward to Scythe and Chiara's story ever since we met them both in Midnight Untamed and Lara Adrian didn't disappoint. The Order are currently busy dealing with a Rogue issue so when Chiara is attacked in her own home they turn to Scythe and ask him to protect her. Scythe is a Gen One Hunter, raised in Dragos' labs he is a lethal killing machine and his unique skill at detecting danger make him a perfect bodyguard but he's used to living alone and isn't keen on spending time with a young breedmate, especially one he hasn't been able to stop thinking about since they first met several weeks ago.

Like all the Hunters Scythe has a pretty heartbreaking backstory, no-one who was raised in those labs came out without both mental and physical scarring but it was an event that happened after his escape that left him most emotionally damaged. I don't want to talk about what that event was but it left Scythe feeling completely unworthy and pretty terrified of having someone under his protection, he doesn't feel worthy of Chiara and he's worried that he will let her down when she needs him the most.

We already know a bit of Chiara's backstory from the previous story, she is a widow with a young son and has pretty much had to rely on herself for the last three years. Her husband was utterly useless and ended up getting both Chiara and her sister-in-law into a lot of trouble, thanks to the Order and Scythe Chiara should now be free to live her own life but now a stalker has put her in danger again. Chiara is determined to deal with this latest threat so that she and her young son Pietro can live their lives without fear but she needs Scythe's help.

I thought Scythe and Chiara were incredibly sweet together, he's so damaged and convinced he doesn't deserve love but Chiara sees the man inside and she won't let him walk away from her. She has had one useless mate and she's not about to let the one man who makes her feel safe and loved walk away from her. Add in little Pietro, who is utterly adorable, and there are some really heart melting moments here, especially in that epilogue.

I love the Midnight Breed novellas, they usually take a step away from the core characters of the series and I enjoy spending time with the Order's Italian team. They don't focus as much on the series story arc so work well as stand alone stories (although fans of the series will enjoy seeing a few familiar faces) and they're more tightly focused on the romance which is nice. There is still plenty of action as Scythe and Chiara try to figure out who her stalker is and what he wants with her but we also get plenty of focus on getting to know the characters so even though the romance plays out fairly quickly it never feels rushed. I'm incredibly excited that we're going to get Trygg's story later on this year but we also have Aric Chase's full length book coming this summer which I just know is going to be fantastic. This series is still going strong and I'm looking forward to many more books set in this world!

I didn't realize I missed this one. Granted it's a novella and doesn't affect the overall arc with Opus Nostrum, which is probably why I missed it. I am glad I came back to read it though. I really enjoy the stories with the Hunters and how they are fitting into society.

Scythe is having a harder time dealing with being out in the world. After meeting Chiara and her son in a previous book, he hasn't been able to get the Breedmate out of his mind. He's determined, after events in his past, to stay away from her. But duty calls and the Order brings him in to help protect Chiara and her son after she's been attacked.

I really liked Chiara. After all she had been through with her previous mate and that aftermath of his problems, she seems to have come out stronger and more independent. She is running her wine business and looking after her son on her own. All of her employees have been scared off. Chiara really objects to her son staying with the Order while her and Scythe go back to her home to try and draw out those trying to hurt her.

Scythe tries his hardest to focus on the job, not the woman he's been dreaming about for weeks. I loved seeing his walls slowly break down. Chiara gradually wins his trust and he explains where his fears stem from.

The stories of the Hunters acclimating to society and finding their mates are really enjoyable. Scythe and Chiara's story was nice to see two very strong people coming together in the midst of danger. This worked great as a standalone. Midnight Bound was a romantic story with a danger thread that I was actually kind of confused about, but the romance overshadowed it and the story itself was definitely a fun side story to this series. This review was originally posted on Rantings of a Reading Addict

Midnight Unbound
4 Stars

Series note: This is the 3rd novella focusing on the Breed Order in Italy. While the stories are not connected to the overall story arc, they are connected to each other. This book in particular is a direct continuation of the previous novella Midnight Untamed.

This is one of the rare occasions where the shorter format does not negatively affect the romance or the suspense perhaps because Scythe and Chiara are introduced in the previous novella and their attraction there is obvious. Moreover, their backstories are well-developed and smoothly integrated into the narrative.

Scythe and Chiara are compelling both as individuals and as a couple. Chiara has grown from the timid, helpless victim of Midnight Untamed into a strong and independent woman willing and able to fight for her son and herself. The twist concerning her breedmate power is particularly appealing.

Likewise, Scythe is very intriguing. Not only is he one of Dragos's (see the first Breed story arc) Hunters, which makes him more tortured than most, but unlike the other Breed warriors, he is physically disabled, which adds another dimension to his strength of character.

The action revolves around the threat to Chiara. While it does take a back seat to the romance, it does not feel like an afterthought and the explanation fits into the ongoing theme of these novellas.

Overall, a short yet entertaining addition to the series, and Adrian introduces the idea for the Breed spin-off series, Hunter Legacy.

I was excited to see who the couple was in this book. You could tell that Scythe was attracted to Chiara, but I wasn't sure about her. I was glad that Scythe was backed into a corner to protect her, glad that Chiara didn't shy away from talking to him and go to trouble to find out what happened with his hand. I think that story alone made him more of a person to her.

While I hated that Chiara was in trouble, I loved how she managed to help Scythe, loved that he was in awe of her ability. But the best was the ending, loved that Scythe found a family and some peace again.

The thing I love the most about this series is it doesn't matter wether you read one of the full length novels or one of these shorter novellas the stories are still just as good! I find once I start them I'm addicted right through to the end. Desperately wanted more too!

Scythe was a character that's interested me since we met him in a previous story. An incredibly tortured soul desperate to find a peaceful existence. He does what he has too when needed but would rather live in solitude.

Chiara's world is her 3 year old son Pietro, just the two of them after the betrayal and death of her mate. She been surviving since but not really living. She met Scythe a month or two before this story starts and the connection was apparent even then.

The story's really fast paced, full of action, twists and turns. The chemistry is faultless between the two characters and I loved how combustible the passion felt.

Scythe and Chiara's love is crazy insta. But I expect that from a novella. My problem is with the lack of originality. These two characters could be swapped with any others from the novellas. She's in danger, a reluctant warrior is assigned to guard her, resist then give in to sex and blood, he saves the day from her attacker, hea. I know I should lay off the novellas at this point but I just can't. C'est la vie.

Lara has done another fabulous job. I love reading this series. Scythe is a Hunter, A very lethal Breed male. Chiara is a widow of a breed male. When danger comes to Cliara again Scythe is called to do what he does best. But love has a funny way of showing up. If you love a good vampire book and a action this is the book for you.

This was a super quick read that falls perfectly with what you would exspect of a Breed finding their mate.

A fun enjoyable read in the series, really enjoyed it. Both Scythe and Chiara needed to find a "break", find each other, someone who sees them and accepts them despite their past, or rather they needed to let the past lay where it should and be able to move past it into each other's arms. It was a short novella, Had a bit of everything I guess, drama, action and steamy sex.

The story line continues the previous novella. Chiara is Bella's sister in law (Chiara was married to Bella's brother Mal). Mal put all of his family in danger due to his gambling habits. So now Chiara finds herself in danger yet again and the order sends Scythe to take care of things, meaning stay with her in the vineyard she lives in while he waits for the Breed Male who attacked her (but was unsuccessful in taking her) to return. The Order has too many things to deal with now, leaving Scythe to deal with Chiara's safety, only leaving Pietro (Chiara's 3 years old boy) in the care of Bella and her mate "Savage".

Scythe has a sad story, being a previous Hunter raised by Dragos not to mention the way he lost his left hand.. But Chiara sees a male of honor, one she wishes could be on her side but couldn't really see it happening when all he shows is his annoyance of having to lay low and wait for an unknown enemy to appear. Yet the reason Scythe is annoyed is because of his attraction to Chiara. He seems unable to ignore his feelings and attraction to her no matter how hard he tries and in the end, with a little prodding from her they start to open up to one another.

It was a nice sweet story. I really enjoyed it but I wished we've gotten a little bit "more" somehow. I"m not even sure what exactly... If you are a fan of the series there's no way you're missing this one! But if you haven't read any of them you SHOULD. Start with the first one. Currently this is one of my absolute favorite PNR series.

Midnight Unbound is a novella in the Midnight Breed universe revolving around our romantic leads Scythe and Chiara. We were introduced to them in the last novella Midnight Untamed and I was shipping Scythe and Chiara so hard and I was super excited for to actually get together. So in that respect I enjoyed the story and was satisfied with the outcome. Objectively speaking, I could see where this wasn’t all that convincing of a narrative.

The main theme here seems to be redemption and growing stronger from a bad past. I love a good redemption story and seeing Chiara grow a backbone and Scythe finally let someone in was incredibly satisfying. I was so happy for them and their big old HEA! Pietro even calls Scythe “Papa” and it made me “squee” so hard it was borderline insane! On the other, logical, hand this whole thing moved ridiculously fast. I mean they’ve had like three conversations and now they’re irrevocably bound together as blood bonded mates. That doesn’t make a whole lot of sense.

I think that overall Midnight Unbound is a novella strictly for the fan girls like me. As a fan I’m just excited that the couple I wanted to be together is finally together and there’s a big HEA! However, if I wasn’t such a big fan, I think I would have been thoroughly unimpressed. But who cares about logic? This is a series about alien vampires! I suspended my disbelief a long time ago…

Another off shoot story of a Breed warrior from the Roman branch of The Order. This is a continuation of Midnight Untamed, bringing back the Hunter Assassin turned Warrior for The Order, Scythe, and Bella’s widowed SIL Chiara Genova and her young Breed son.

An unknown Breed male attacked Chiara at her vineyard home and she turns to The Order for help. As The Order has been inundated with dealing with large groups of Rogues attacking humans, Savage enlists his friend, Scythe who readily agrees to help (though he knows it isn’t wise to do so with his growing desire for the young widowed Breedmate.

What I really loved about this book is we’re finally given a bit of insight as to what happened to all the Hunter Assassins upon the death of Dragos and his breeding programs. I assumed The Order detonated all the collars destroying them but apparently not. This book gives a hint as to possible other stories about these “Lost Boys/Lost Men.” I also liked that even with the loss of one of his hands, Scythe was still a deadly force to be reckoned with. I will definitely be looking for them to read next.

A loaner and one of Dragos’s Hunters, Scythe doesn’t belong among humans or his own kind. Yet when his brother, Trygg, requests his help, Scythe agrees to protect Chiara Genova and her young son.

Chiara’s life has been filled with danger ever since marrying her now deceased mate. When a crazed Breed breaks into her home and threatens to force her blood bond, the Order realize there is more going on than appears and send in the one male they trust to protect her.

The story of Chiara and Scythe actually begins in the previous novella, Midnight Untamed, when the pair meet and sparks are evident. Midnight Unbound completes their story as the pair is once again tossed together in a deadly situation. This time around, the pair are forced to spend days together, alone, and after a week, they can no longer deny their burning attraction and physical needs.

Midnight Unbound is an entertaining, straight-forward paranormal romance. Predictable maybe, but enjoyable certainly. He saw her and longed for her. She saw him and wanted him. He's tender and caring under his tough exterior. She isn't the fragile flower she appears to be. After being cooped up together for a week trying to fight their attraction, bam... sexual explosion and uncovering of feelings. Sharing of pasts. Working together for a future. Midnight Unbound can be read as a standalone, although the general Breed background mythology may make it more enjoyable. I liked the straight forwardness of the tale and enjoyed the tie into the previous novella.

My Rating: B+ Liked It A Lot
