Der Star-Traum

Rate this book

Just One Kiss by Susan Hatler is a 2016 Hatco publishing release. I was provided a copy of this book by the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Wow, what cleverly written romantic comedy!

Charlie gave up her acting dreams so her husband could make the big time. But, after finding him in a compromising position with a rock groupie, the couple divorced and all Charlie has left is a mansion she can’t afford to keep.

She will have to sell the house... or she can write a tell all book exposing all of her ex’s ugly secrets, or she can allow her favorite soap opera to use the house for filming...

Which is how she ended up scoring a role on “Just One Love’ and where she meets dashing soap star, Luke Montgomery. The chemistry between them sizzles on screen and off, but when Charlie gets a chance to really pursue her dreams, she may have to make a choice between acting and a relationship with Luke.

This is a really cute romantic comedy, which had me laughing out loud, but what was really striking was how the author paralleled the soap opera script in with the events taking shape off screen. This is a nice touch and gave the book a charming quality that simply dazzled.

I enjoyed the behind the scenes drama with the soap opera, and I thought it was cool how Charlie and Rex finally resolve things. But, of course, getting to watch Charlie finally have her long overdue chance at success come to fruition and snag the dreamy Luke Montgomery too, was divine.

I always enjoy Susan Hatler’s romantic comedies because of her ability to balance the romance with just the right mount of conflict and emotion, and because of her precision comedic timing. Her stories are romantic and sweet and perfect for any occasion.

Susan Hatler is a queen of clean romance! This is such a great series and I loved reading Charlie's story. Each book in the series can stand alone, but other characters make appearances, as each book is about a different woman in a group of friends.

Charlie gave up her acting dream to marry her high school sweetheart, turned bad boy rock star. After a messy divorce, she's healing in her mansion in her hometown and agrees to have a popular soap opera film in her house for a month to save herself from bankruptcy. Luke, a star of the show, is full of good looks and charisma, but she's not sure she can head down the road of fame again, with another relationship.

Charlie is someone that I could totally be friends with. For a woman who lived in the shadows of fame for so long, she's really personable and down-to-earth. Right off the bat, Luke oozes charm and he's such a gentleman--it's hard not to fall for him. I love a book with an intense connection and chemistry and this one delivers. I remember a time in middle school when it was "the thing" to watch a certain soap after school and this brought back some fun memories.

The story plays out in a way that's balanced with romantic moments, slightly humorous events, and tense situations. There's a good mix of conflict and resolution and I couldn't help but heave a delighted *sigh* at the conclusion, as it is a satisfying read. If you like clean romance with a bit of Hollywood and a beach involved, then this one is for you!

Content: mild romance (kissing, vague implications of unfaithful partner in marriage). Clean!

This is a great book; this is the third book in the Kissed by the Bay series written by Susan Hatler. This book can be read as a standalone, but once you read this one you will want to go back and read the other books in this series. Charlie Rockwell’s divorce from her rock star ex left her with a broken heart, a mansion on the bluffs in her hometown of Blue Moon Bay, and an empty back account. Now, Charlie has to generate enough income to keep the house she loves. When producers of the soap opera, Just One Love, offer to rent Charlie’s house for a sizable fee, Charlie’s tempted. Only she wants nothing to do with the spotlight or dating someone famous again, and the show’s sexy star, Luke Montgomery, has her in his sights. Reluctantly, Charlie agrees to rent her home and vows to stay out of Luke’s way. This is a great book with a wonderful story and well developed characters. This book will keep you reading long into the night. If you are looking for a great book, then you need to read this book. I am looking forward to reading the next book by this great author. A Review copy was provided to me in exchange for a fair and honest review. The free book held no determination on my personal review.

Happy release day to Just One Kiss!!

I was SO looking forward to this book. After reading the previous books, I just KNEW Charlie's story was going to be good. Charlie and Luke. Luke and Charlie. LOVE.

BUT. The road to love is rarely easy. Up and down. Give and take. Misunderstanding. And kisses. Don't forget the kisses. It's what makes a great love story!

One of the things I love about this book is that it really makes me feel like I'm Charlie's friend. I'm right there with her through every thought and every action. The dialogue is familiar and easy. I was rooting for Charlie before the book ever even started and I loved getting to know her. This book was so much fun!

Susan Hatler is one of my favorites. Her books sit right in my happy, comfortable place. I really love reading her books. They are the perfect romantic escape.

This is the third book in this series. It can stand alone, but you will feel more connection to all the secondary characters if you read the books in order, I think.

Content: Clean! Yay!

I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

REVIEW: 5 stars
This was my first full length novel of Susan's. Previously, I had only read a few novellas in her Better Date than Never series. I really enjoyed the novellas I've read but I really wanted to love a full novel of hers and I'm glad I did :D

The Kissed By The Bay series is a lighthearted romance series. I love profound romances because they tend to pull at my emotions but I very much enjoy a light romance that will keep me invested the whole way through. I think they are difficult to write because the author has to make sure that it's original and entertaining but not too cliche, too déja vu, and too heavy. Just One Kiss is well written, fast-paced, was a JOY to read and I did not want to put it down!
It had relatable characters, realistic relationships between siblings and friends, redeemable "villains", a soap opera incorporated in the story line (which is so cool!), and a sweet flirty romance with bumps in the road. There was a great balance of comedy, chick-lit, drama and romance. I went in blind and I found myself swooning, laughing, identifying with the characters, so invested that I was yelling at my e-reader and even tearing up.

It follows our main protagonist, Charlie who finds herself broke and hiding from the media in her safe haven following her divorce. She's in her 20s but feels like she's lost herself, lost sight of her dreams, feels like nothing in her life is working out and doesn't know how to fix things. She has the support of her sister and friends and all of them are figuring things out with their love lives and careers. I found that relatable.
After a turn of events, Charlie's life get shaken up and she's scared to embrace that change. She's so scarred by her past that she starts doubting and denying what her heart knows to be true about her budding romance with Luke and abilities to have a successful career. I felt for her and was so happy to see her find herself again as the story progressed. My favorite thing about her though is that she is a total fangirl!!! Here's an example: "It was clearly the writers' fault for leaving a cliffhanger! "

Luke was a swoon-worthy male lead: romantic, caring, protective and I love how he loved Charlie. He was exactly whom she needed after what she'd been through with her ex. Hollywood life (the good, the bad, the ugly) was an important component of the story. It was realistically depicted with invasion of privacy and rumors that run a mile a second. I love that Susan made the "villains" redeemable and that everything fell into place at the end.

Just One Kiss was a wonderful read and I would recommend it to lovers of light/clean romances and to anyone who needs a summer read or a sweet romance to get them out of a reading slump. I give it not JUST ONE but 5 MOVIE STARS ;) I can't wait to read the other books in the series and Claire totally should have her book too!

My favorite sentence: "I shot Luke a look" Hehe I totally chuckled at that :D
My favorite quote:
-"I just had a really bad divorce."
-"That means you're single."

Haha :D So much for pushing him away

Susan Hatler always seems to bring a big smile to this reviewer’s lips. With her strong, sassy heroines, great posse of supporting sub-characters, and handsome, swoon-worthy heroes and engaging romantic plots, I’m usually giggling and deep sighing, as well. Just One Kiss is no exception, folks. If you are looking for a quick, flirty, only mildly angsted romantic tale where the heroine has to learn to trust again, look no farther. You’ve just found it. She’s done it again with this short, engaging, well-written romantic read.

Charlie walks away from the fame and fortune of her famous rocker husband when she catches him in the act of cheating with a groupie. Having put her acting career dream on hold to support him, she gets a much needed double the rewards opportunity to rent her ocean front, beautiful home to her favorite soap opera TV show, while unexpectedly being offered an acting role that soon blossoms to another even bigger acting gig. With some dancing around each other on and off the stage, she quickly falls head over heels for Luke, the leading man/heart throb of the series.

With a few predictable twists and turns, you’ll likely find this sweet, non-steamy read refreshingly romantic, folks. If what I’ve described peaks your interest, I highly recommend you check out her other books/series, as well. Kisses to you, Ms. Hatler, for a job well done. Keep up the good work!

Title: Just One Kiss, Series: Kissed by the Bay (Book 3), Author: Susan Hatler, Pages: 183, stand-alone, clean romance with only steamy kisses, good guy hero, HEA, main couple are both actors, heroine ex-husband is a famous rock star who wants her back, another co-star also wants to be with the hero, hero has to kiss other co-star in acting scenes.

It's no secret that I'm a fan of Susan Hatler and that I have enjoyed every minute reading the inner musing of the characters that take root in her mind until she purges reads like "Kissed by the Bay" from her "Just One Kiss" series.

"Kissed by the Bay" is Hatler's third book in the series and just as fun and entertaining to read as the others.

Hatler' did an amazing job at developing the the characters in a way you fall fast for. She doesn't skip on the romance and she didn't fail in her happenstance comic timing.

I can't wait to read what Hatler' has in store next.

My absolute favorite and will read again and again. I strongly recommend! It has outstanding qualities. The characters are wonderful and surprising and multi-dimensional. The writing is luring, engaging, and well-crafted enough to keep me interested from cover to cover and beyond. The plot is astonishing with twists and turns weaved into a well thought and planned story. There’s no pretense and romance was well balanced and done entirely correctly with properly distributed amounts of hints, behaviors and incredible, undeniable chemistry. Predictability is at an all-time low. With the exception of series based books that follow the same path but are just as good. Overall, Favorite, must read again, recommend!!!

PS: On a side note we're still awaiting Shaken 2.... just putting it out there.

To Charlie privacy is everything. After her divorce to her rock star husband, Rex, it is the one thing she still wanted. She didn't want the money, the houses besides the one in her home town, or the cars. She just wants her privacy and the house on the hill. But now that she is in dire straights due to her finances she needs to do the one thing she never wanted. Open up her house to more people who do not have privacy because of the press. But this opening of her house leads to one of her actor crushes the one named Luke. He may be perfect for her but he may also lead to the downfall of her potential career.
Luke has been acting since he was a teenager, and now he is one of the most well known actors in the country. But through all of his acting no one has ever gotten to know him. The real him. Everything has been scripted. But whats not scripted is his amazing chemistry with Charlie, or what she makes him feel when they work together to make magic.
This was a great romance all though it took me a little bit to get into it. But when you d it becomes kind of hard to stop. The romance between these two characters both in person and their personas make the novel all the better. I am definitely rooting for the continued happiness of Charlie and Luke as well as the hopeful happiness of the detective and Piper.

This is book three of the Blue Moon Bay series and sees the main character, Charlie Rockwell left with a home she can no longer afford, no money and a broken heart after a bitter divorce from her childhood sweetheart. She had supported both of them while he was starting out with his music career with his group, for the whole length of their marriage, putting his career first and never ended up following up on her stopped studies or her acting hopes. She has the holiday home up on the cliffs of her hometown of Blue Moon Bay and needs to finally find a job to pay her property taxes or sell the house. She has spent the last year since the divorce trying to hide away from the world and the paparazzi in particular, who continue to hound her as the ex-wife of the now famous rock star, Rex Rockwell! She asks a local lawyer for some advice and is given three choices, one is to allow a popular soap opera, Just One Love, to rent her main house, leaving her the basement apartment, to film in for a month.

The soap opera is one she has been watching for ages, she is a true fan and like many fancies the show’s sexy star, Luke Montgomery, who plays a cop on the show, investigating the death of the female leads husband in the show. Charlie’s lawyer is friends with the show’s producer and can get her a good deal for the rental of her home. Her other option is to tell all about her life with her ex, for a famous local author which she isn’t the sort of ex to even contemplate, or sell up, leaving her with nothing and still no money. She reluctantly takes the soap opera option and everything follows on pretty much as expected, when talking about a TV programme and having a very pushy sister, Claire, who turns up at unexpected moments and tries to ingratiate herself with the cast and crew, which she is much better at doing than Charlie! When an extra doesn’t turn up, Claire pushes her to volunteer, or should I say, volunteers Charlie for the part! She gets to play a maid with just a simple line to say, but causes a small accident for the female lead Adele, making an instant enemy!

Charlie has finally got a chance to live her dream, acting in a popular soap opera, but is concerned about any sort of relationship with Luke, not knowing if he is or isn’t in one with Adele, but also doesn’t want the attention this would bring back to her and all the lies that have been told about her already since her divorce. Charlie doubts her own feelings or Luke’s, but can’t ignore the chemistry they have together on set and spends days trying to get him alone to cancel on a dinner date with him, but never really manages it! She fears the paparazzi and wears silly disguises when she goes into town to visit her close friends, but really needs to start having a life again. Shame that her ex Rex starts to come back around, possibly from the news of her possible new relationship or acting career. He says he made a mistake and wants her back, referring to her as his wife still and not his ex. Charlie makes a decision about her future, but again doesn’t make it for the right reason and almost loses everything. Love doesn’t trump all, but it certainly has an important part in choosing a future life. An interesting storyline which follows a lot of the reality TV scenarios, but still brings a HEA ending at last. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

Romance: ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Writing: ✏️✏️✏️✏️✏️

Just like all the other Susan-Hatler-books I’ve read, this one is amazing. The main character grows throughout the story. She recognizes her flaws and weaknesses and makes them into her strengths. She changes her view on fame and love and understands that life doesn’t always go the way you want it too. The story was captivating and exciting. The book was a great novel altogether.

The story follows Charlie. After catching her rockstar husband cheating on her and divorcing him, she’s become reserved and isolated. She’s been in denial for months leading up to the divorce but catching him was the last straw. The paparazzi changed the whole story making her upset and scared. Now she’s running out of money because, during the divorce, she only got a house. She doesn’t have any income coming in either. Her lawyer gives her three options; write a book on her relationship, go back to her husband, or host a soap opera at her house. She chooses the latter since she already loves that soap opera and the other two will cause too much publicity. Once the crew moves in, she sees her celebrity crush, Luke, live. They start getting to know each other, Charlie learns that Luke is a down to earth, amazing man. Charlie also starts acting in the soap opera after the producers see her abilities. Yet, Charlie is still hesitant.

I loved this book, super entertaining! I loved the positive message about marriage in the book: how important is it to work to support each other while not giving up on who you both are as individuals. Charlie and Luke . I could totally see them as a couple ten years from now on the red carpet. Other than one summer when I was 8 and my babysitter got me addicted to soap operas, I have never been one to watch them. However I loved the soap opera scenes best! The ad libbing, the dramatic pauses, the crazy tension, it was all fantastic. I loved how Luke was so sincere and how he grounded himself as an actor so his head wouldn't get too big.

When I read the previous book in the series, The Perfect Kiss, I thought Charlie was kind of aloft and distant. But now after reading this book I totally love Charlie more than the other girlfriends. Each book in this series is stand alone but since these are such good books you’ll want to read them all! A perfect escape when you want a clean romance without the TMI scenes!

The crazy thing is reading this book got an old song (one that is a couple decades older than me of course) suck in my head, Just One Look, by Doris Troy. My mind replaced “Just One Look” in the chorus with “Just One Kiss”. Every time I’ve thought of the book this week I have that song in my head and it has given me a little happy thought! Thanks for writing such good books!

Over the moon with " Just One Kiss"!!!!!!
I love this book!! I've read the other two books prior in the series and I am hooked! I love that the myth of kissing under a blue moon by the plaque continues throughout all the stories. I really enjoyed reading Charlie's story, if anyone deserved being kissed under the blue moon and living happily ever after it was her. There were so many turns in the story that I honestly thought that Charlie wouldn't get her happy ending. But we all know what an amazing writer Susan Hatler is!!!! She shows us once again how life can be, there many ups and downs and turns but in the end everyone deserves to be loved and happy. I truly recommend this book to everyone, specially if you like fun story lines and unexpected turns with a happy ending. If you haven't already read Susan's other books in the series, what are you waiting for!??? Go pick them up and happy readings!! You will not regret it, Susan has a gift for writing and I think everyone should read not one but all of her books!!! Hope you go and pick up a few and fall in love just like I have with all the amazing characters and stories. Thank you Susan Hatler for writing such amazing stories!!!

Second chance to find love. Yeah! I loved Charlie. She got a raw deal from her ex-husband. They were high-school sweethearts, then married, and she worked to help him advance his career as a rock star. But then his ego got in the way and he ignored her needs and continually cheated on her. Now after a bitter divorce, she has spent the past year hiding in her home town, broke, with no career. But her dreams of becoming an actress might be resurrected. She rents her home so a soap opera show can film there, and unexpectedly gets a bit part working with her secret crush, actor Luke. When she gets an expanded role the leading lady is jealous. Now she has a budding romance with Luke, her ex keeps trying to get her back, and the paparazzi won’t leave her alone. But can she trust Luke? He is famous just like her ex-husband. She is afraid to lose herself in love again and neglect her chance at a career in acting. This story was sweet and so funny. They town’s people were wonderful secondary and third characters. Her friends and sister truly support her and have been trying to get her to get on with life. Maybe she now has a chance. Getting married young and trying to make both their dreams come true lead Charlie and Ronnie to Charlie supporting them, and putting off acting until Ronnie became Rex and made it big as a rock star.

To the world she became Rex’s ex - ex when she caught him with a grouping in her hammock at her family vacation home.

The tabloids might imagine a grand settlement for her, but in the end, she kept her family vacation home and the car she had parked there.

Faced with losing her family property to a possible tax sale, she has some options- a few that year at Rex and his reputation, and one that could give her money to manage the house comfortably for a while until she figures out her next steps

Whatever she chooses, Charlie has to decide to follow her wallet, her heart or her dreams. Compromise might be possible, but not easy if she wants to let go of some pain, but hold onto her dreams

Intense action, angst and romantic suspense

Charlie Rockwell has returned home to Blue Moon Bay after her divorce from her high school sweetheart, Ronnie Clement, aka Rex Rockwell. Rex cheated on her so Charlie doesn’t trust easily. She is worried about losing her vacation home, now permanent home, due to the fact she has no income to pay her property taxes. Her lawyer gives her some suggestions and she decides to rent her house to a soap opera for a month. She meets Luke Montgomery who plays a detective on the show. Sparks fly but Charlie is afraid to go out with Luke when he asks her. Throw in an ex-husband, a diva actress, a suspect producer, three best friends, an annoying little sister, and you have an engaging story. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I didn’t care for Claire, Charlie’s sister at first, but she grew on me. I enjoyed the scenes with Olivia, Wendy, and Meagan. The chemistry between Charlie and Luke was off the charts. I highly recommend this book.

Charlie pops off the page. The story throws a lot of background at us all at once to set the story as Charlie and the new life she is looking for versus the life she needs to leave behind...her life as a rockstar's wife. She is broke and her opportunities are limited since she has basically been an out-of-work actress for ten years. Write a tell-all? Move and sell the house she loves? Let a soap opera set up shop in her dreamy California home? I would do the tell ll but Charlie is a better person than I am... and definitely is a better person than her sister who eggs her on at every turn. But it all works out and thanks to her sister, Claire, Charlie has a chance at kickstarting her career, her love life, and keep her home. THe home soap star Luke is working in every day.
After the additional "what you need to know" information in the beginning, the novel is paced wonderfully and all of Charlie's emotions are real and honest and I loved to hate Adele who is the over the top dramatic soap opera star who thinks Luke is s a better fit for her.

This was a good story. Charlie was divorced and on the brink of losing her home - the only thing she got out of the divorce with her famous husband. She could have gotten more, but she just wanted it over with. Her lawyer brought her a couple proposals to make some money. She let a soap film there for a month and met Luke. They are attracted to each other and sparks fly. She even got a part in the soap and she was such a natural, she got another part. Luke helps her gain her confidence and learn to love and trust again. I liked the characters and enjoyed the whole story

One time opportunity....
I’ve already met Charlie in other Susan’s books, and I love her!
And was wondering about her story.
And now I got to find out. And I wasn’t dissapointed! At all!
Susan wrote another amazing story - with a lot of steam, and fun, but also with some drama and twists. All enough to trill me and keep me hooked.
It was a real pleasure to read about Charlie. And to met Luke - a real life Prince Charming - swept me from my feer.

When Charlie divorced her cheating rock-star husband, all she got in the settlement was a beautiful mansion overlooking Blue Moon Bay. Now, she's cash poor. To make enough money to keep the house, she agrees to let a soap opera film there. A bit part balloons into a role opposite leading man Luke, restarting the acting career she put on hold. When new opportunities arise, will they jeopardize her budding romance with Luke?

This sweet, funny romance is a great beach read. Charlie and Luke make a cute couple. Both are likable and kind. At the beginning of the story, Charlie could use a life coach to help her make better choices. She gave up her career for her husband, then agreed to an unfair settlement to get out of the marriage quickly. She ends up on a similar trajectory with Luke. Fortunately, he's a good guy who doesn't want to take advantage of her. It's nice to see how she grows through this romantic relationship.

Thanks, Booksprout, for the ARC I received. This is my honest and voluntary review.

A sweet second chance romance...
Charlie was desperate for money to keep her house. It had become her sanctuary after divorcing her cheating husband. To earn money, she agreed to allow a film crew to use her home for a month to film a soap opera. Luke, her favorite soap star and an all around nice guy, ends up falling for her. He helps her regain the confidence to pursue her dreams. I received a free copy of this book. This review was posted voluntarily

Sweet and Clean California Coastal Romance
This is a sweet and clean, novella-length romance. This series takes place in the fictitious northern California town of Blue Moon Bay. All of the characters are the types one would expect to find in a small town. Of course, they each have these crazy talents, but it keeps the story interesting. In this episode, two people fall in love and have to fight the demons of their past relationships to make this one work. It is a tender story where everything works out well in the end. I enjoyed Charlie and Luke’s story, the book seemed a little long and her insecurities became a bit mundane. Overall, the book was good and if you are looking for. Loved never book, these are good characters with an excellent supporting cast.

I loved how Charlie had to learn to put herself first but we also had to watch her make that choice. Luke was so sweet supporting her and all her dreams. I enjoyed how Charlie got some closure with her ex-husband.

This is definitely a drama but I really liked that the book was telling us we have to take care of ourselves and go after our dreams. We should find people who support us and those dreams.

I just absolutely loved this book!

Charlie was from Blue Moon Bay and hiding out in her mansion from the paparazzi and her ex husband rock star Rex. She was broke and about to lose her home. Her lawyer friend talked her into renting out her home to her favorite soap opera Just One Love for a bit. Luke was a detective on the soap opera and became interested in Charlie. Oh the drama that ensues!!!!They kissed under a blue moon in the bay, and you know what happens....... I love this series!!

In my first, but not last by this author, I was hooked from word one, in a highly entertaining, angsty soap opera, romance of Charlie and Luke. She is fresh off a high-profile divorce, and Luke is a high-profile soap opera actor. She wants out of the spotlight and to live her life her way. Will the legend of the blue moon come true? Can she live in his world? I recommend this fun read to everyone.

Thank you to Booksprout and the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.
