The book was an interesting story but today JD Vance is attacking families without children on Fox News. He is running for office so he has changed his story.

An incredible story of how someone can overcome adversity. It touched home in many respects since I had an unsettled childhood. Congratulations to J.D. Vance for being strong enough to make his life better.

Well written story about growing up poor. A realistic look at the challenges of his life, as well as what he loved.

The person that is written about here did not give any clues to the maga ideology he was about to embrace.
An interesting read with a disappointing outcome.

Good description of growing up in the South. One can understand his fierce loyalty to his family and neighbors despite their sometimes abhorrent views. I think he sidesteps some of the more difficult issues, like how to confront these loved ones and how to maintain integrity in the midst of overwhelming backwards thinking; problems facing many left leaning individuals who remain in the South.
