As a fan of the show I have only been able to see the current doctors and see the past doctors in specials or clips. Therefore, I LOVED that this allowed me a small look into the beginning Doctors.
“Doctor Who: 100 Illustrated Adventures” - BBC **** Published only last month (November 2017) this book provides summaries of 100 select Doctor Who TV stories with original art drawn by fans, including 2017's “The Pilot” and “Smile” This project has a real “community” feel about it. Enjoyable read knowing that it's been complied with much Whovian love. - - -
The writing was functional, but overwhelming. The episodes were summarized well; however, the lack of any sort of transitions made it read like an encyclopedia page. There was no drama building as I read.
The fan art was excellent. I particularly enjoyed the art depicting Peter Capaldi episodes.
I really enjoyed this book. I am a massive Doctor Who fan and was thrilled when I received this for Christmas. The illustrations in this book are absolutely stunning and is definitely a book that I will go back time and time again.
The sole purpose of this book would appear to be for Puffin to use illustrations by fans of "Doctor Who" to make money. Some of the art is good, some bad, mostly mediocre. The text is minimal, and the whole project reeks of trying to separate completist collectors of their money. I got my copy on sale, and it's still not worth it.
