I learned a lot from this one. I learned a simple analogy for explaining white privilege. I learned that the state of Alabama put the words "moral turpitude" BACK into their constitution in 1996 after the law "to establish white supremacy in this state" was deemed unconstitutional in 1985. I learned that the laws may be easier on heroin addicts than cocaine addicts because heroin use is more widespread in white, affluent communities. I still, however, have not read much about what I can do. I can bring more diverse books into my classroom (that is predominantly white), and I can facilitate discussions about various cultures. I can recognize my own biases and work against them. I need MORE.

(Oops I lost this book in my house and that’s why it took me so long to read.)

This is a straightforward look at race and privilege for older kids/teens, or maybe even an accesible entry to the topic for older readers.

Just ordered this series for my library, and so far am impressed with the level of research, concrete examples, and clear analysis of the impact of racism on our culture. Would recommend for students and educators alike for a good introduction. Really appreciate that the author references source texts and offers branches for further reading.
