Juniper Bell is a multi-published author and avid fan of romance novels, the steamier the better. She lives with her sweetie in a cabin in Alaska with no running water and a spectacular view of glaciers. She wound up in the frozen north after leaving her career as a stressed-out Los Angeles TV writer. Luckily, her love for writing survived the move. When she’s not writing, she’s spending time with her family, traveling, shoveling snow, and dreaming about the day she moves to Hawaii.
For a very short read, this one was sizzlin' hot with a sexy hero to boot. I've always known of Juniper Bell since I did read some of her other works back in the day and finally decided to give her another go. Doll is an emotional take on a woman named Chloe Barnes whose life takes a turn for the worse when she realizes what kind of monster of a man that she married. The antagonist of the story disgusts me to the point where I want to say that he's scum. I was quite horrified of the things that he did to her... and how he abused her relationship with him.
The story starts when Chloe decides to go back to her hometown, and there she meets her childhood friend/neighbor, Dustin MacDougal. Dustin has always been in love with Chloe... and when she married Andrew, it seems like fate wasn't just on his side. Soon, they meet again and Chloe begins to 'feel' once more. While I do admit that their get together was kind of fast, the love scenes between Chloe and Dustin was done extremely well. It was very sensual and hot. The villains sort of got what they deserved in the end, but not really. I was only disappointed in that aspect. Overall, this was a very enjoyable read and I will look forward to this author's future works. 4/5 stars for this one!
I loved it! I hated the villian. I absolutely adored the hero. You can't get much better than that!
This is the first book by Juniper Bell that I have read and wow did it suck me right in. Luckily I had the entire day to myself and I put it to good use reading this book.
The hero, Dustin, is a dream come true for the emotionally wrecked Chloe.
I am a big fan of books with instant attraction and this certainly had that!
I most definitely recommend this book and look forward to reading more from Juniper.
Astonishingly, this one was good, despite the "red-hot" label. It was a bit like Catherine Anderson's work. Chloe, having been abused by her husband, returns to Maine after finally filing for divorce, where she meets a handsome, honest fisherman whom she knew when she was a child. It sounds corny, but the love scenes were well-written and had decent dialogue, and Chloe and Dustin were well-developed characters and not the sex-crazy psychopaths you usually encounter in "red-hot" literature. Despite how short the story was (just a novella, I read it in a couple hours if that), the attraction between them was believable and Chloe grew as a person. I'll definitely be reading more of Juniper Bell. My only complaint is that the "bad guy" didn't really get his comeuppance, but I guess that can be left to our imagination.
Chloe was a sheltered child and married young to an abusive jerk, he didn't hit her but bullied her into sexual situations she didn't want. Returning to her hometown, she plans to sell her parent's home so she can afford a good lawyer to divorce her husband. She meets Dustin, a local fisherman and has an affair. This could have been better if developed further, but it is only 80 pages. The sex between Dustin and Chloe was ok, I didn't feel a great connection between them. Everything was just mediocer about the story.
Wow. It's short, but everything it needs is right there. The husband's treatment of her might be too much for some to read, but it's not gratuitous. A great read.
