Dark and light—opposite.Black and white—balance. This chap book composition is written for a capella. The words need no accompaniment. Among the poems, you will find strength and validation. Some of them define weakness and in the shadows, sanctuary.Bipolarity honors both. The disease defines me; complete between extremes. —Laura
The poems in BIPOLARITY by Laura Kester Duerrwaechter brilliantly sing of the love, fear, and confusion we often struggle with as we try to understand our place in this world of complex relationships, with others and ourselves. Within the images of nature (water, trees, butterflies, etc) the rich fabric of one human’s life shows that we are all together on this journey, many times two poles of a world too often divided.
Writing takes discipline. Sharing it takes courage. In Bipolarity, the first published poetry collection from Laura Kester Duerrwaechter, the author shares her personal struggles with bipolar disorder, a mental disorder marked by alternating periods of elation and depression.
Her poetry is full of contrasts as she documents the difficulties of achieving balance riding the roller coaster between extremes. She demonstrates an acceptance of the dual elements that color her world, and in the acceptance of herself she opens the door for others with the same struggle to find the balance.
Bipolarity is a letter of love, written in poetic verse, to all those who journey from depression to mania and back again and allows them to love themselves as they are.
