I am a self-published author who is enjoying myself. I love to write period! I have a MBA in Human Resource Management, but my first love has always been writing. Besides reading and writing, I love a good garden. I love to feel the dirt between my fingers. Yes, there may be a story there.
Some of my favorite authors are Richard Wright, Rosemary Rogers, Beatrice Smalls, Eric Gerome Dickey, Zane, Dean Koontz, and Stephen King just to name a few.
I am the founder of 'Southside Book and Writers Club,' we are located in Richmond, Va. We read everything, and we love promoting diversity, growth, and educating others about Indie Authors. Check us out on Facebook!
This book was given to me in exchange of an honest review.
In this short book of 50 pages, Kim covers basic concepts on writing and publishing a book. Though it may be handy for first time authors, I did not receive much value from this book. I was looking for more depth and specific marketing strategies that worked for the author. Moreover, the bullet lists provided to publish the book cover only elementary information - like enter book title, description, author name, publisher's name etc... I feel screenshots, personalized tips, or links to how-to docs for publishing platforms would have added more context for the first time authors.
With that said, it was a quick and easy read. First time authors will benefit from this book.
From setup of your manuscript to selecting publishers, print services, and marketing, Kim’s Do It Yourself Guide to Self-Publishing is very informative. There are key strategies on promotion and distribution as well as links to great resources. Indie authors will gain access to useful tools that take the guess-work out of how to get their books in the world-wide market. Moreover, the importance of networking, social media, and marketing strategies are clearly represented as Kim provides step-by-step instruction on how authors may take a hands-on approach to self-publishing.
This book is a clear, concise, no nonsense, step-by-step guide to self-publishing. It contains practical, tried and tested, easy to follow advice on how to:
1. Keep motivated whilst writing your story 2. Find beta readers & ensure they give you the right kind of feedback for your needs 3. Edit your own work – it discusses the merits of different, affordable editing software programmes 4. Format your files for both E-book & paper versions 5. Create a book cover & a logo, if required
It also explains: 6. The importance of ISBNs, barcodes & copyrights 7. Where to publish your book and how to do it 8. Pricing, marketing & promotion
The author’s tone is warm, chatty and encouraging throughout and, moreover, she includes a comprehensive list of online resource links to keep you on the right track. If you are a writer looking to self-publish on a budget, or someone who wants the satisfaction of personally overseeing every aspect of the publishing process, then this is the ideal guide for you.
I received a free copy of this book as a gift from the author.
