Jess finds himself facing off with three gunmen in Bannon, Texas, who had been beating up on an old man. After killing two of them and running the other one out of town, he runs into two Texas Rangers who question him about the two dead bodies still in the street.
After a suitable explanation, and finding out who Jess is, the two Rangers invite him to ride with them after a ruthless killer, Sid Black. Jess declines, wanting to make it to Stratton, Texas, to propose a business venture to Henry Stratton and finally take some time to rest up.
After finally reaching Stratton, he learns about the murders of the two Texas Rangers, whom he declined to help and he feels somewhat responsible. After proposing his business venture to Henry Stratton, he finds himself riding with John Bodine again, going after Sid Black.

In 1990 Robert J. Thomas was sworn in as the full time mayor for the city of Westland, Michigan. He served twelve years, making him the longest serving mayor in Westland's history.
While he was mayor he wrote his first book titled, How to Run for Local Office, which has now sold over 25,000 copies worldwide.
He has written and published on Kindle, the Jess Williams Westerns series. Retired, he now lives in Mississippi with his wfe Jill.
If you are reading this series you are no doubt into Jess Williams a super hero bounty hunter who's mission in life is to rid the world of really, really bad criminals. Yes he may be a little bit of a psychotic killer but he does it with good intentions. To save future victims. He is a sucker for a sad story. He will help with money time or whatever it takes to help victims of crime, poverty or just hard luck. You gotta love this guy.
Then we come to his friend John Bodine. The anti Jess Williams. Never giving a penny, a kind word or a helping hand to anyone. He is fat, gluttonous and an all around mooch. He seems to get off on running up huge tabs in Jess's name. He thinks nothing of ordering clothes ,boots, bar tabs, even horses. Why? Is he jealous of his skills? Reputation? Wealth? Is he secretly in love with Jess and acting out resentment for Jess's interest in women? Whatever his motivation he is an unlikable ass. May I add I'm not the only one to say it. Someone needs to kill this character off. Bullets, disease, choking on a pork chops? Maybe Shadow could rip out his throat. Just a thought. I've read 1- 59 books in this series but I think I'll skip the JB ones in the future. Hopefully he's not in all the upcoming books.
Another great Western from Thomas. Jess is still on the hunt for killers and is joined by Shadow, a wolf that helps when needed. Looking forward to reading number 60. This author always delivers a well written, fast moving Western. I highly recommend this author.
Looking for number 60. I'm as bad as those everyone reading those books in Jesse's stories. Read them all to 60. Wonder who he wll help next? O well. I'll find out.JD
Jess is on the way to Stratton, Texas to relax. As usual he faces bad men who need killing and towns that need reviving. Bodine joins Jess to hunt a really nasty killer and Shadow appears to help.
Another winner. The Jess Williams series is always a fun read.

As I knew it would be, this is a awesome read. I really like these books on Jess Williams. He always gets his man. They have action, but Jess has a lot of compassion also. He is always helping people in need. I like that he has a big heart, except to killers. Thank you for a awesome read.
