Your business's success depends on how you prepare for the future. While business leaders of the past looked in the sideview mirror to predict the road ahead, we must now look at the greater forces affecting the social, business and economic world today-megatrends. Fortunately, world-renowned scholars and professors Terence Tse and Mark Esposito are here with a fresh, holistic way to think about tomorrow by preparing for it today: DRIVE. The DRIVE framework examines five interrelated megatrends: - Demographic and social changes - Resource scarcity - Inequalities - Volatility, complexity, and scale - Enterprising dynamics By observing today through the lens of DRIVE and understanding how megatrends influence one another, business owners, entrepreneurs, executives, policy makers and individuals can prepare for tomorrow. In this book, they will learn how to simplify the complexities around them, make better-informed decisions, and identify new business opportunities now. They will also discover how to prepare for uncertainty, own the global conversation, and illuminate the blind spots on the journey ahead. With real-world examples from today's top executives and policy advisors and in-depth analysis of each megatrend, DRIVE is the GPS system for the new global economy. So buckle up, set the destination, and let's hit the road.
The authors deliver a comprehensive framework to make sense of interconnected trends, Demographic and social changes Resource scarcity Inequalities Volatility, complexity, and scale Enterprising dynamics
Their book is strongly supported by research.
There is a nice balance of expertise and accessibility.
I read a lot of books on transformation and the future and this one is great.
READERS, trust me on this one. Keep these two names in mind: Dr Mark Esposito and Dr Terence Tse. Nominated for Thinkers’ 50 2017, these world-renowned professors have been on the up-and-up with their research especially in the past couple of years. The best thing about them though is that though they are intelligent, they are down-to-earth too. Having sat in on one of their sessions, not only did I learn a lot but the respect and camaraderie between the two is obvious.
Now this book is their first together, derived from an idea when they were in Singapore a couple of years ago. The authors feel that planning and preparing ahead leads to business success. Sounds logical but this is where many leaders go wrong and that is how a bigger force has come in to rock the economy today and they are none other than the group that falls under the megatrends.
One way to stay ahead and plan for tomorrow is to tap on the DRIVE framework which breaks the megatrends down into five steps:
Demographic and social changes, Resource scarcity, Inequalities, Volatility, complexity, and scale, and Enterprising dynamics.
I enjoyed every single page, not because I adore the authors but because it is a page-turner. Having sat through their masterclass where they introduced DRIVE, I managed to get snippets of what DRIVE is all about and what these two world-renowned scholars are trying to achieve. It is a book that makes you think of your business from a different perspective yet does not come across as being overly academic or oversimplistic. The writers have found the right balance. If you have read their earlier contributions to Today’s Manager, you will know exactly what I mean.
A really great book about what will happen in the future, using a framework of DRIVE:
D -Demographic and Social Changes R - Resource Scarcity I - Inequality V - Volatility, Scale and Complexity E - Enterprising Dynamics
In D, R, and I, the authors describe how business models such as healthcare, professional services, banking and education are outdated; technology is and will continue to move many people out of jobs and it will continue to revolutionize many industries; an ageing population is causing a social services and pension crisis; and water is becoming an increasingly scarce resource.
But the authors are hopeful for the future (V and E) and describe how we can adapt, ensuring a brighter future for our generation and the next.
