Nothing to Croak About

Rate this book
When Silver Hollow witch Adele Brundage curses the town with a plague of toads until her killer is found, Isolde Quinn and her cousins find themselves thrown into a dangerous world where someone will go to any lengths to keep a decades-old secret. Armed with their witchy powers and unconventional pet familiars, the Quinns set out on an investigation that puts them in the path of a dangerous killer who will stop at nothing to keep their secrets buried.

And when that path intersects with hunky FBI agent Dex Nolan, it’s a blessing and a curse. Issy has feelings for Dex, but can a lawman sworn to prosecute paranormals ever truly fall for a witch?

With the body count piling up—not to mention the toads—Issy has to take drastic action to expose the identity of the killer before they claim another victim.

I'm a bit late with the witchy things as it's mid November. Though I really loved the first 2 books and decided to give the 3rd one a try.
And here we start... The first thing I didn't like was how Adele Brundage dies, just out of nowhere (at least it's how it felt), curses the town with a plague of toads for what reason? Until her killer is found? Unconvincing. Also the whole curse line didn't fit into the story and was so random.
The second thing is the love line, I like how it progresses but yet again, some things don't feel natural, for example the part about witch/human relations, the debt... nothing really happens with those lines so far. I hope there will be development in the next books. Otherwise disappointing :(
I know it might sound bad and not worth 3 stars, but the story is decent, cozy and helped it's purpose (which for me was to offload my brains after a work day).

I was ok with this little paranormal up to this point, but the hyperactive dog who is now talking has become very annoying and quite honestly has ruined this book. His every other word is "mommy" in a string of fast-paced sentences and listening to the book just made this part even more difficult tolerate. Also, I find that as the series goes on, the storyline is getting more and more repetitive and boring. How many murders can one woman stumble upon without becoming suspicious and if that many people were murdered in one small town, I'd be moving. The love life between Issy and Dex is painfully slow. I'm not particularly drawn to any of the characters and really just finished the book to finish it. I don't plan to continue the series.

Book Title: Nothing to Croak About (Silver Hollow #3)
Book Author: Leighann Dobbs

So, I was waiting for this book for like forever. I just adore this series. Issy is a fun character and I'm glad that .... oops almost said something that many would find to be a spoiler alert.

Anyway, there's another death in town and the witch cousins are at it again! Solving the case that is. Seriously, they should be hired as consultants by the police or the FBPI... keep your enemies close kind of thing. Gordon, Dex's pet has grown and we learned about what treats he likes (hopefully people don't consider that a spoiler ;)). Also, I'm thinking in book 4, it's going to heat up. Dex's boss will return to the scene, we will learn more about the new character that graced the town, and hopefully will learn about DeeDee's match. Maybe, he's not that bad? For some reason, I think it's the new character that graced the town...but hey I'm probably wrong.

Miss Dobbs did it again with this one. She's still a favorite read of mine. I like hoe easy the reading is and that I was able to read it so fast in my small personal breaks. I recommend it to 16 and over.

Enjoy!

Another Silver Hollow death solved by witch Isolde Quinn and her cousins, Raine, Ember and Gray. Hunky FBI agent Dex Nolan also helps out and he and Issy get closer too. It's a fun story to read in a couple of hours.

This last book of the Silver Hollow Witches was the best one yet. The characters come alive and make you feel like old friends.

Issy Quinn has a remarkable ability to crash headlong into danger. She, along with her cousins, have a knack for solving murders; although they let the local law enforcement think they are doing all the investigating. And it doesn't hurt to have a hunky agent who is falling for Issy too. Just a few things to complicate things. Issy and her cousins are witches, one of the local deputies is a werewolf shifter, the medical examiner is a vampire, and Dex (Issy's new love interest) is an agent of the FBPI, Federal Bureau of Paranormal Investigation, a secret section of the FBI whose mission is to investigate and arrest any paranormals.

All this makes for a quirky group of people in a community where strange things happen. There are three books in this series and all three are must read stories of page turning delight.

The Quinn cousins are back again with another fun filled cozy mystery with a supernatural twist.

I love the light heartedness to these cozy's there is always a great mystery to solve with enough twists and turns to keep you guessing and a lightness to them which makes them an enjoyable warm fuzzy read as well, I love the banter between the cousins, I adore Dee-Dee ai would love more of Dee-Dee and then there is Dex, we love Dex, we Love Dex, we LOVE Dex I am so with Bella on that front....lol I can't wait for Issy and Dex to begin working together now he knows their secret I think he will blend in well with the cousins and Bella is funny in her adoration of him it's cute that her newly found telepathic messages for Issy are all about Dex.

I have to say sometimes with supernatural stories the pets are not always believable as magical themselves but Leighann Dobbs has such a way of writing pets into her stories that make them believable and lovable :-)

I listened to this book while doing errands during the day.

The characters are well rounded and well developed.

Issy is always stumbling into unsafe situations. She and her cousins have a keen sense for solving mysteries. They tend to let the local law enforcement think they are doing all the investigating. They are not interested in the glory, they just want the non-paranormals and paranormals to get along. The non-paranormals are not aware of this groups except as members of their community.
All this makes for a quirky group of people in a community where strange things happen.

The mystery is well crafted. At points I thought the story was moving slowly, especially the Dex and Izzy portion. I also found the little familiar calling Issy ”mommy” to be annoying. What animal would do that?

I enjoyed the book except for the two minor things mentioned above.

Nothing to Croak About (Silver Hollow #3)
by Leighann Dobbs

This is a fun little read. Dobbs does a great job creating characters the reader can care about, and she pays attention to detail, being sure her work is well edited and proofed. There is always a central mystery, although it is almost lost in all the will-they/won't-they angst between Issy and Dex. And yes, I marked off for that angst, because it was simply too much already. I also marked off because I easily figured out who-dun-it long before the characters seemed to catch on and, as I knew what the next book would center around, and figured out the big reveal about Caine Hunter before starting that next book (which I am currently reading). I like a hint of where characters are going, but knowing the basic plot of a book I've not even started was disheartening. So, instead of 4 stars, it's 3.

But, for the most part it was exactly what I thought it would be/what I wanted it to be: a quick, fun, fluffy, feel-good read that I enjoyed -- obviously as I've already moved on to the next in the series.

Nothing To Croak About (Book 3) — Leighann Dobbs (27 chapters) February 17-18, 2020

The third book sees the Quinn coven racing to discover who left Adele for dead in her kitchen...and died with a toad curse in Silver Hollow. The toads will multiply until her killer is brought to justice.

This was a decent story but the mush got a little too much. If the author ratcheted down that aspect a little bit it would have been a good as the last book. It was the continual confusion between Dex and Issy that really did me in. It was like: really? Get with the program people! I really think 20-30 pages could have been cut that was nothing but misunderstanding between those two.

The story gets a little lost in that shuffle, and feels almost secondary to the lovey-dovey aspect.

Some funny parts though, and as always, Bella, Issy’s Pomeranian familiar steals the scenes.. Every. Single. Time.

Two stars.

If you like your mysteries with a little added paranormal touch then this book is for you. Filled with witches, a wolf shifter deputy and a vampire medical examiner this book has animal and plant familiars that will charm the socks off of you. The Quinn cousins are witches and they each have their own magical businesses as well as their own familiars that are adorable. When Adele Brundage a fortune teller is murdered she puts a hex on the town calling for a toad invasion until her murder is solved. The Quinn Cousins begin to investigate and it leads them into an old murder that took place years ago in Florida. In order to solve Adele's murder they will have to delve into the old murder. Will they be able to save the town from the toad invasion? Will they find the murderer? The book concludes with a surprise and you won't want to put it down. Another excellent series by Leighann Dobbs.

I truly enjoy this series. Cousins who are Witches and being watched by a special arm of the FBI, find an unlikely supporter.

Meanwhile, a dear friend, Adele who earned her living reading fortunes, is found bludgeoned to death. Her son, Scott had just committed suicide a mere two weeks earlier...was it suicide?

Adele levels a curse upon Silver Hollow until the murder is solved.

There is humor, a love of family, and a new relationship for Cousin Issy. Yeah!

The mystery is solid and the fantasy is sensible. This is a good series for a quick read.

I love this series and how close the Quinn cousins are. This series is a light fun read about murder and mystery. I am glad that Issy and Dex are starting to find themselves together. I'd love to see his supervisor completely written out of this series. I can't stand greedy people like his character displays him. All of the toads were a little gross in some of the places they ended up. I was humbled how the cousins bonded with the homeless people and it would be great to see references of this bond throughout the rest of the series.

As a!ways

Leighann Dobbs delivers again. The Quinn cousins are again in the midst of a murder investigation.. The little town of silver hollow is home to a variety of paranormal beings, who live side by side with the human population. I'm really enjoying this series. The characters are likeable and their familiars are adorable. Good styory,I got lost in it and suddenly realized the hour and that I had read 3/4 of the bo ok. Which is the case with most all of Leighann Dobbs books. Happy reading

"NOTHING TO CROAK ABOUT" is another of Leighann Dobbs enjoyable novels.

They wish to know why I have given this novel four stars. Even though this story was not earth-shattering it was extremely enjoyable leaving one with a good feeling. I would recommend this novel to anyone who enjoys a paranormal story with love, levity and a decent story line. The characters are alive and believable bringing a desire to revisit them another time.

Den?

Good guy to have in an emergency and he loved a certain witch and he just wants to keep her safe. Murder happens and Issy and her cousins cannot stay out of it especially when there is an influx of toads because the murdered woman place a curse and the toads are there until the murder is found.

Cannot wait to read more about this group of characters.

As Issy and Dex try to figure out their relationship and get closer another mystery is brewing in Silver Hollow. When a plague of toads is sent by a dying witch until her murder is solved, the Quinn cousins must figure out a years old mystery to solve the latest. I love all the different traits that each cousin has and how they all work together. Another good read!

Silver Hollow is overrun with toads after being cursed with toads by Adele Brundage until her killer is caught. This put the Quinn cousins back on the case. And FBPI agent, Dex Nolan, is in town permanently. Can he and Issy come to terms with their feelings for each other?

Tis was a wonderful read.

I am loving this series more and more, that said I really thought the very end was going to push me to quit! This series has a romance, as they usually do, and the push/pull, should we, no we can't was just about to make me scream lol

The mystery was great and I feel you get a lot in a short book. The familiars crack me up and I wish this was a town I could visit!

The plague comes down on the town - can the girls stop it?

Absolutely fantastic! A dead witch, a plague of toads and three nosy girls. Will they be able to find the killer before the town is overran by toads and before another victim turns up? An fabulous paranormal cozy. A must read.

More Silver Hollow silliness as Izzy and her 3 cousins rush to discover who murdered a fellow witch, before the spell she cast (to fill the town with toads until her killer is found) completely overrun the town.

I usually love Leighann Dobbs and give her a 4 or a 5. The murder mystery was good in this. I see the authors setting up some interesting stuff for the series. However the on again and off again of Dex and Issy is just distracting and irritating at this point. I really hope it resolves itself soon.

I needed this kind of book. A mystery, some magic and a bit of love is the perfect way to kill the blues. I haven't read the first two books but had this one on my shelf. Gonna have to look for the others.

Another Excellent Mystery!

Leighann Dobbs and Traci Douglass have a winning series here. The Silver Hollow series is wonderful, and even if someone reads the stories out of order, each is enjoyable and difficult to put down.
