WW II and the crew of an 8th Air Force B-24 Liberator bomber. That's the basis of the story, but it actually begins in an antique mall in Florida, many, many years later. The tail gunner of the B-24 "Over Exposure" is looking for WWII artifacts and the owner shows them to him. Among the items are two things that he remembers well. One is the captain's flight log and the other is the captain's lucky charm -- a piece of shrapnel that nearly took his head off! The two get to know one another and over a period of time, the tail gunner unveils the secret mission he and his crew were involved in when they only had five missions left before returning home. Well written flying scenes and a good mystery, as well as believable. As an ex Naval Aviator and the son of an 8th Air Force B-24 pilot, I particularly appreciated the accuracy of the author's flying scenes.
