There is only one woman for Caiden Hall. One woman who promised him a future.
That promise ended when he wound up in prison for murder after an illegal boxing event at Bantorus clubhouse. Upon his early release—thanks to the president of Ronacks Motorcycle Club, Caiden arrived back in Federal, Idaho, expecting Jolene to be waiting for him, and found he had nothing left of his former life.

My Thoughts: Wow that was a heart wrenching and beautiful love story! It is written starting when Caiden and Jolene were 22 and 17, respectively. They were in love and planning for their future. Jolene comes from an affluent high society family whereas Caiden is living in an apartment above a bar that his alcoholic mother works at. Caiden has never known what it’s like to have a stable home, food on the table, clothes to wear that don’t come from the second-hand thrift store. Jolene has the comforts of a stable home, but her parents are emotionally negligent and controlling. They are planning their future when life takes a terrible turn. Caiden has Jolene promise that she would wait for him. She makes that promise, but life has other things in store for these young lovers.
Fast forward 20 years and Jolene returns to Federal Idaho since her parents have moved to Arizona. Her parents had her leave Federal once Caiden went to prison and Jolene missed Caiden every day, but there are circumstances that she doesn’t try to find him. Once Caiden is released from prison after 10 years he is hoping Jolene is waiting for him even though she never had written or came to see him. When he realizes she had moved away, he tried to find her and then found she changed her name. He assumed she moved on and married. Forgetting her promise to him. He was angry and bitter, but he never stopped loving her. Little did he know that Jolene never stopped loving him and couldn’t move on, she had her own story to tell.
This story has so much emotion to it. There are circumstances that come to light that makes your heart hurt for both of them. There are times when you are rooting so hard for these two to get over the feelings of betrayal and misunderstanding. There are so many factors in play for that it makes it hard for them to be able to move on. This book captivated me and held me hostage until I finished it! The love and longing and passion these two have is so beautiful.
I truly loved this story and was so happy that my beloved Bantorus, Moroad and Ronacks Motorcycle Clubs had a part in this love story.
I freaking loved this!! There is absolutely nothing better than connecting with a character in a story you are reading....in this case it was Caiden. He is a solitary man that has made the best out of the hand life has dealt him. He's not a whiner or complainer, he just does what needs to be done day in day out. Twenty years ago Caiden had it all at the tip of his fingers, but one wrongly landed punch changed his future and the future he expected to have with Jolene. When these two meet again all the anger Caiden has been holding in comes to the surface. His pain comes off the pages and grabs your heart. For you see, Jolene is now living part of his dream, a dream they planned together without him. However, there is much Caiden doesn't know or understand about why things didn't turn out the way he expected with Jolene. There was so much to be said between these two and as the story comes out there are a couple of surprises for both characters. This is a wonderful story about two people reconnecting and trying to recapture old dreams and make new ones. Can our couple get over old hurts, preconceived assumptions, interfering outsiders and residents that refuse to forget? Guess you should read it to find out.
It got boring after 75%. Nothing happens after their reunited ILYs.
And lots of appearance from the writer's other characters from her other books. This person from there, that person from here bla bla bla. B o r i n g.
Debra knows her Motorcycle Clubs. She also knows how to write real, relatable characters. Although Caiden isn't a part of an MC, he has dealings with them throughout his life. Debra shows the reader that those inside an MC have normal relationships with people outside of the lifestyle. I also love that Caiden and Jolene have some of the same baggage that many of us carry around and they have to work hard to overcome past hurts just like anyone else. Their story was so sweet. The only thing I would liked to have read a little bit more of is actual romance between them. I can tell that they love one another through the things they do for one another, but a little more cuddling, kissing, and hand holding wouldn't have hurt. Although now that I think about it, maybe that's the way Debra intended it to be. I guess not all couples are super lovey dovey. Other than the lack of romance, it is written just as beautifully as her other books. Her books always give me a sense of peace. The couples are just able to work it out and live their happily ever after...whatever that may be.
Debra Kayn's new book, The Higher You Fly, is simply amazing and she once again had me hooked on the story from page one all the way to the end. This author continues to amaze me with her gripping storytelling that is so full of raw emotions that it tugs at my heart. I loved Caiden and Jolene right from the beginning and it was heart wrenching to see their young love get torn apart. This story showed the consequences of a young man's action and how that affected his life and those he cared about, especially Jolene the girl he loved. Jolene went through so much when Caiden was taken away and she showed great strength and resolve in getting her life back. I really enjoyed reading about Caiden's journey back into the community and even though this was a standalone story, I loved how this author incorporated beloved characters from her other series. What a fantastic story and I highly recommend this book!
Caiden always thought he'd end up dead or in prison with no dad and a deadbeat mum he made the most of things his love for his girlfriend jolene things were looking on the up until one night everything changed
Sent to prison for killing a man in the ring he always thought jolene would wait for him but when he was released she was nowhere to be found it made him an angry and hard man
20 years later jolene decides to move back to federal what she wasn't expecting was to see caiden old sparks fly but would he be able to forgive and move on in there lives but what caiden soon finds out it want just him that went through hell jolene went through worse
Will these two have a second chance and be able to move forward put ghosts to bed and get on with there life's.
Caiden and Jolene were young lovers hoping to build a life together until an unfortunate wrong hit in the boxing ring sends Caiden to prison. Fast forward 20 years when Jolene and Caiden meet again. There is a lot of angry and misunderstanding on both sides. This is an emotional story filled with sadness and lost dreams, I kept turning the page to see what would happen next. I was pulled into their lives from the first word, Debra Kayn told such a beautiful story about a second chance with your first love.
First book by this author that I've read and first motorcycle club book. In the first part of the book I was a little frustrated as to why Jolene didn't try to talk things out with Caiden. That was, until the twist in her past after Caiden was sent to prison. The characters were developed and the book left me wanting to read more by Debra Kayn.
Yes, I believe that when soul mates meet they know it and refuse to let go. Such is the case with 17 year old Jolene and 22 year old Caiden. Caiden was from the wrong side of the tracks, according to Jolene's parents, so when his boxing opponent was accidentally killed in the ring, Caiden was arrested and sent to jail for 15 years. Meanwhile Jolene was sent to a mental institute to relieve her of her "infatuation" with a "felon". Fast forward 20 years. Jolene returns to Federal and buys the cabin she and Caiden had planned to buy and raise a family. Their shock at coming face to face in the local gas station sets their worlds on a journey neither expected.
This is truly a favorite for me now. Debra always draws you into her characters, new and old. I loved how so many characters from past books showed up! Truly another great love story!
I really enjoyed this book!!! Caiden was an amazing hero. I really didn’t like the heroine, I felt she was whiny and constantly made it about her and not him. But overall... a solid read.
This was fab. He hit sent to prison after killing someone I'm a boxing match. She was so inlive with him her parents sent her to therapy to forget him and he thought she forgot all about him

Before I start my review, I love that Debra Kayn gives us such a beautiful insight into the settings of her books. The pictures she posts of the Clubhouse, Bordello, living quarters, streets etc. really give you the feeling that when you read her books, you can imagine being right there, witnessing everything as the stories unfold. I thoroughly enjoy reading all of Debra's books and encourage everyone to pick one up, you will really get hooked once you start.
Now, The Higher You Fly. Caiden and Jolene's love for each other is clear for all to see, unfortunately Jolene's parents don't want her to associate with Caiden and after his last bout in the boxing ring everything changes for them. Caiden will lose Jolene in very unfortunate circumstances and it will be many years before they connect again. Caiden becomes very bitter when the promise Jolene made was broken and he has to pick his life up and try to live in a town that hates him, but it is his town and he doesn't care about the dirty looks and snide remarks from the townfolk of Federal, Idaho, he just wants to live his life day to day until the end.
Unfortunately fate has other ideas, and when Jolene fronts up to pay for gas for her car and needs a receipt for tax purposes, the last person she ever thought she would come face to face with was Caiden Hall, working at the gas station.
And here we begin a beautiful love story that will truly test your emotions as these two try everything they can to avoid each other and not reconnect, but the pull is there and the love they had for each other is begging to be rekindled but can it happen when there are so many obstacles in their way to overcome?
I loved every word written in this book and even as I write this review, I feel I will need to go back and re-read it. Thank you Debra Kayn for the advance copy, I would have to say this will definitely be one of my favourites.
The Higher You Fly is a second chance romance that takes place in the Bantorus and Moroad Motorcycle Clubs world, but is a complete standalone. I did not read any of the books in the previous series and did not feel lost at all. The Higher You Fly is about a woman named Jolene who decides to move back to the town she grew up in and in the log cabin she always dreamed of owning with the love of her life. Caiden is the man she left behind 20 years before, believing he was going to be in jail for at least 15 years for accidentally killing a man in an unsanctioned boxing match. What she didn’t know, is that Caiden was released after 10 years, hoping to reunite with the love of his life. When he arrives home to find Jolene and her family have moved out of state, Caiden decides he too has to move on with his life. What happens when Jolene and Caiden reunite? Will they be able to finally have their own happily ever after despite their decades long separation?
I thought this second chance romance was very sweet yet heartbreaking. Learning why Jolene left and what happened during their separation was sad and frustrating. I absolutely hated her parents. Caiden was my favorite character. He was so in love with Jolene and just wanted to live their lives together. After serving time, all he wanted to do was better his life with owning his business. Seeing the stigma of being an ex-con in the small town was eye-opening. Even though he wanted to overcome his past, the townspeople still reminded Caiden that he killed a man. Although I enjoyed this book, I did have a slight issue with how Jolene and Caiden communicated in the beginning. It took what felt like forever for the two of them to sit down and hash out their pasts. For a little while, it felt like they were teenagers instead of mature adults with how they neglected to talk right away. After seeing glimpses of some characters from the Bantorus and Moroad Motorcycle Clubs in this book, I’m now curious about their stories. While waiting for the author’s next release, I may go back and read those series.
Caiden and Jolene are deeply in love and have planned their future together but one moment is enough to tear them apart for twenty years. When Caiden returns to his hometown he expects to find Jolene waiting for him but she has disappeared and there's nothing left for him. Then Jolene returns and they meet again but he is angry and feels as if she has moved on without him, while he was never able to forget her. But they can't stop the feelings they still have for each other and the truth about what happened to Jolene while he was in prison is revealed. Will they create the future they've always wanted and make a life together? The Higher You Fly is an amazing and emotional read about two people torn apart by unexpected circumstances. They are broken but have managed to survive and they find the strength to come to terms with their past and live together like they always dreamed.
One thing Debra never fails to do is give you an honest to God love story. It may not always be one you're comfortable with or could see yourself in, but it's a love story. This book is no exception, my heart broke, gained hope and finally soared. It's not a perfect love story, but it's their own.
The Higher You Fly, by Debra Kayn is amazing. It isn't one of her MC books although some of the MC characters do make an appearance. Caiden and Jolene are very intense people. They feel in love when Jolene was just 17 and Caiden was 22. Due to some unforeseen circumstances (I refuse to do spoilers) they were separated for a long time. When Jolene comes back into town and runs into Caiden the sparks just fly. Actually, its more of a nuclear explosion. Every emotion that you can think of surfaces and they have to either find a way to work past what happened all those years ago or just go their separate ways. Debra Kayn does not disappoint! The sheer intensity of these two will keep you on pins and needles through out the book.
The Higher You Fly, is Debra Kayn's new book and as always this amazing author doesn't disappoint. The Higher You Fly is a second chance romance that takes place in Federal and features the story of Caiden Hall and Jolene Shayne. Debra Kayn has taken me and many readers to fell in LOVE with this lovely town in Idaho through all the Bantorus, Moroad and Ronacks Motorcycle Clubs series and now with this sweet and heartbreaking story. Like many other fans of Debra, someday I will go to Wallace, Idaho and visit all the places from her books. This story line is amazingly written, you will cry, laugh, feel anger and hope. This book has all it takes to be special and outstanding. You got drama, sadness, regret, anguish, great characters, hope, love, a happy ending. It's a stand alone with no cliffhanger.
Totally unexpected read. Found the book randomly and loved it. So well written. I felt like I was there with how everything was expertly described without being crazy wordy. I'll read more by this author for sure.
I can't believe I had stopped reading Debra Kayn's books. What was I thinking? This book was so amazing that I am going back and reading the rest of the Ronacks MC books.
There were so many great things about this book. The book is a second chance romance, one of my favorite genres. The story takes place in Federal, Idaho home to the Bantorus and Moroad motorcycle clubs (both of the series were fantastic and read more than once by me). The main characters, Caiden and Jolene, were very likable, so easy to fall in love with and support. One of the things I really liked was that I got to touch base with so many previous characters fro the other series. The journey back to each other was a rollercoaster of emotion and challenges.
And the ending deserves fireworks, a party and a countdown to Debra Kayn's next book. The Higher You Fly is just beautiful.
I loved this book so much !! If anyone needed a second chance at love it was Caiden and Jolene. Throughout their lives they have had to hide their love , then had to be separated to thinking they had lost each other. They never actually stopped loving each other in their hearts . They just had to overcome their doubts and fears. A beautiful story. I also loved the MC's making their appearance as well.
This book gives hope to the reader. A young couple torn apart when a tragic accident results in a death and Caiden is sent to prison. A fragile Jolene is unable to fight her wealthy and influential parents. Yet, she always loves him and struggles with her feelings. After twenty years, they find each other again. She is still psychologically torn and anxious. Caiden is angry because he feels she didn’t wait for him and trust in their love. As a reader, it was important that they both earned success individually. They were able to function well individually but they flourished together. Beautiful story
