Toil & Trouble #0

Double Double

“Love is made in a potion. Flirting is pointless and unnecessary."
"But fun."

Fate and Destiny are daughters of an outcast witch, trying to figure out how the whole magic thing works. One light, one dark, and they have no idea their future holds a terrifying prophesy.

For now, they’re just trying to create a love potion to sell to their classmates.

So they can buy more shoes.

But the past their mother tried so hard to escape is coming for them, and love potions aren’t going to save the day this time.

Oh, and Damien.

Fate’s huge crush on Damien leads her to extremes to get his attention. Those very extremes, though, prove to Destiny that if love can come in a potion, it can’t come from the heart.

Loved this short but entertaining glimpse into the potion that started it all and the foundation of the bound these two sisters share. It was the perfect sunny day, lazing in the lounge chair, listening to the birds in the background and I just want to escape read. I could also see it being a want to cuddle buy the fire and drink cocoa kinda read as well.

Twin witches Destiny and Fate always knew they were special. Fate has white hair and a cheerful personality and can conjure objects out of thin air, while Destiny has black hair and can hide in shadows like their mother. They can also speak into each other’s minds. This short story covers several different adventures as Fate conjures a fish out of thin air, also summoning a cute boy at school determined to save her rapidly dying live fish. The story spends some time at the local humane shelter rescuing an abused dog, questioning just who their father was and why her mother no longer talks to any of her family, and that there are forces out there hunting their small family.

This was a good first taste of the Toil & Trouble series, introducing the twins and even giving us quite a bit of backstory on their family history. Though I kept getting the two girls horribly confused, and Alina, their mom, sounded the same age as them. For me, personally, it was a bit too silly and juvenile. The story felt like it couldn’t take itself seriously with the sudden appearance of a live fish in the middle of their school cafeteria (I will say, it does have imagination) and the fact that the girls are just focused on buying shoes should they get money. Nothing else, just shoes. (Whenever characters get too focused on clothes and shoes, I usually take that as a signal to move on). I actually do have the next book or two bought, so I will be giving them a try, regardless, with the hope that the characters might have done some growing up between this book and the next and gained some depth.

While this is technically a novella and not a full length novel, it's still a cute one to complete as my first book done in 2020. The twins Fate & Destiny seem like a couple of normal teenage girls (boys & shoes being their priorities), but they are also witches who are living with humans so of course that means there will be chaos at some point.

It's my understanding that this novella came out after the other books and it's a prequel. I am reading these in order so I'm not sure (with their mystery Aunt appearing) if bad things will befall them or if there will just be low-level mayhem to be enjoyed throughout the rest of these. I look forward to finding out.

read this forever ago and forgot to review!!!
I loved this! The meeting of Fate and Damien and how they get together and stay together is just adorable! I completely love their little origin story! If I had read this first I definitely would have read the rest. A good short story to start off a great series.

A fantastic look at how Fate and Destiny began their journey. We get a clearer picture f Alina firsthand, we watch Fate catch her man, and we get the first taste of danger, a foreshadowing of things to come. This can be read first or you can wait to enjoy it, but you will enjoy it!

A magical and fantastic read!

These girls - Fate and Destiny - always keep me in high spirits. Love all the humour, the sisterly bond, the world and how they still manage to be positive, loving and above all, able to conquer their fears when around each other.

Squee!! Finally, we can read the background story of how Fate and Damien met and how they ended up together - although the books mention it but only briefly.

These girls are trouble. Trouble, I tell you but I love them!

Reading this prequel made me want to reread Cauldron Bubble, which I did and fell in love all over again.

Full of spells, witches, love, shadows and sunshine, and family.

Perfect for readers of paranormal romance.

The event's in the story take place before Cauldron Bubble. Its where twin's Faith and Destiny come up with ingenious plan to make money by selling Love Potions. The girl's end up convincing their mother to teach them about potion's something she has been reluctant to do given the events that killed her family and those surrounding the girl's father that forced her to leave her Coven. Will girl's plan work or will it backfire and attract those that wish to steal their powers.
As a lover of the Toil and Trouble Series by Wendy Knight it was great to see more about what made the girl's the fighter's they become later in their lives.

I love Cauldron Bubble and Fire Burn, so I was super excited to get more Fate and Destiny! I love the humor in this series, and I love the fun, interesting world Wendy Knight creates! The whole series is wonderful! In Double Double, we get a glimpse at Fate and Destiny's lives before the events in the first book, Cauldron Bubble, while they have a little adventure, and are finding out more about witches, spells, and warlocks, and we get to see a pinch of the beginning of Fate and Damien's relationship. Fate and Destiny are in their quirky best in this novella, and I love getting more story with the two! I of course want more, so I'm excited to continue on with this series! I don't think it's absolutely necessary to read the other books before this one; since this one is a prequel, but I think it made me feel more of a connection with the girls as a reader because I've already read the other 2 books in the series, but either way would work, and this book does give a good indication of the tone of the rest of the books. Fun, entertaining, quick read! Love Wendy Knight's writing, and I'm definitely looking forward to more!

( I received this book free in exchange for my honest review )

This was a perfect prequel Cauldron Bubble. It can be read before or after the other books, but it's a must read for this amazing series.

This was a look into the girls past, how they started learning potions, when they met Winnie, and of course the start of their love potion enterprise. They have all the same wit and charm, but they're a bit more innocent, and it shows thought in the way they interact with people.

Thought this is a short read, it had a steady flow, the plot was one point, and I simply couldn't stop reading once I started!

As is said this is a perfect addition to the Toil & Triuble series, I highly recommend it and I can't wait unit the next instillment.

Happy Reading

I must admit that I haven't had a chance to read the other books in this series yet, so I'm jumping in halfway through. With that being said, I love Fate and Destiny. They are sweet, funny, they have good hearts and are very caring. Fate is little mischievous and Destiny is the planner and their mom seems pretty cool too.

I will be purchasing the other two books in this series right away so that I can get to know these girls as well as the other charcters a lot better. I loved Double Double and I know that I will love the rest of the series too!

This is the prequel to Caudron Bubble. Its a good idea I think, to read that one first as then you are familiar with the characters. Going back to before book one means you can see how it all starts.
I loved this book. It was good to see things that were all referred to with the first book, things that are explained better here.
Its a lovely short book that leaves you wanting to carry on reading more about the Twins :)

This  prelude  to the Cauldron  Bubble  series  gives us an insight  to the voracious spirts of the twin girls/ witches : Fate and Destiny.

It is very  good  start to what looks a great YA oriented  series.

If normal  adolescent  girls  can get up to some mischief,  throw  in a touch  of  magic  and see what disasters  could  be  wrought.

I am loving this series! I think this prequel story is a great foundation for Cauldron Bubble; it describes the family, the personalities and the gifts that each has, and it perfectly sets the stage for jumping into the plot of Cauldron Bubble. I know the books can be read in any order, but I really like to read series chronologically, so I bought the set & I'm reading through it - so far, I've gotten to the beginning of Fire Burn and I'm totally excited to complete the series! Fate & Destiny's interactions with each other, as well as with Alina & the other characters, is truly entertaining; they're sweet, smart & spunky! The writing is engaging & entertaining; I found myself chuckling on numerous occasions. I am definitely looking forward to learning more about these characters and their lives!
