Another example of Donald McKim's accessible theology. An excellent opportunity for everyone to think deeply about God without constantly consulting a dictionary.

I joined a Presbyterian church a couple of years ago. I've never belonged to a church before, having had parents who insisted that we were Christian, but didn't set foot in church. I really love my church, but as other people mentioned that they were Baptist or Methodist before, I realized that I have no idea about what makes Presbyterians different. I figured out we have pastors, instead of ministers or priests, and that we have elders and deacons, but not much else.

I liked this book from a theological standpoint, but am still left wondering what makes Presbyterians different from other Christians. Also, it started out very strong, but the focus seems to have faded toward the end. Either that, or mine did, as I have fewer notations in the margins.

A good introduction to what Presbyterians believe and what makes them specifically Presbyterian. Best read with a group so you can compare and contrast the tenets and ideology for a better, more complete understanding and perspective. Helps in understanding some of the traditions in the service and some of the overall focal points in the church.

This is a short book and quick read but packed with information. I read it a chapter or two at a time over a few months (for a class) but it easily be consumed in one or two sittings. It makes an excellent introduction for someone interested in what Presbyterians believe.
