Meet Amy Summers, a big-hearted heroine whose simple life gets turned upside down when she finds a winning lottery ticket worth millions…but should she cash it?
Amy Summers has it all: the world’s best job, an awesome boyfriend, and a happily-ever-after in sight. Then, in one very bad day that involves burnt toast and a police arrest, she loses everything – except for a winning lottery ticket her ex left behind.
Afraid to cash it, she decides to give up men and become a Bohemian novelist. She takes her laptop to Starbucks and literally bumps into caffeine-free, easy-going Josh Gray, a life coach and very handsome man. (Not that she’s noticing.) When he offers to help Amy get back on her feet, she decides to hire him.
Her heart is telling her that he’s the man for her, but Josh is big on honesty and Amy has a huge secret that could push him away if he ever finds out.
Pamela Gossiaux is the international bestselling author of the Russo Romantic Mystery series, the romantic comedy Good Enough, the YA novel Ordinary Girl, and the inspirational books, Why Is There a Lemon in My Fruit Salad? How to Stay Sweet When Life Turns Sour, and A Kid at Heart. She is also a keynote speaker, freelance writer, and teaches writing workshops. She lives and writes in Michigan near a wonderful university town with her husband, two sons, and three cats. Visit her website at PamelaGossiaux.com.
Romantic comedy, with twists and turns, some intelligent depths, and a deft hand with coincidence, Pamela Gossiaux’s Good Enough is a good read, with enough good humor to satisfy and please. The protagonist almost has it all, almost loses it all, then, in one brief encounter, gains back everything and more. Being a good person, of good intent, she agonizes over whether or not she can take advantage of this. Then she takes advantage. Then she offers advantages to everyone else. Truly, she is a good and more than good enough person. But there’s still that secret lie.
Aiding Amy in her rise to the top is handsome life coach Josh, who also seems more than good enough. Their dialog offers wise advice for all readers aspiring to better their lives. But there’s that intervening factor for protagonist Amy; she’s falling in love.
And then there’s the lie. Can good people stay good enough for each other when relationships are built on partial truths? Can those who’ve made mistakes still help others make something of themselves?
The resolution is moderately predictable, thoroughly enjoyable, and satisfyingly entertaining. Amy and those she helps prove good enough in spite of it all, and the book is a truly good read—romantic comedy combined with a life-coach’s wisdom!

‘You are enough. You do enough. You have enough. That’s going to be my mission statement.’
Michigan author and freelance writer Pamela Gossiaux is an inspirational Christian speaker and the author of two books: ‘Why is There a Lemon in My Fruit Salad? How to Stay Sweet When Life Turns Sour’, and ‘A Kid at Heart: Becoming a Child of our Heavenly Father’. These first two books proved her abilities as a humorist and a sensitive thinker, but her newest book GOOD ENOUGH places her in a new realm of important contemporary authors.
So many of the oft-maligned Chick Lit novels rely on frequent emphasis on sexual encounters to attract their audience. Pam sees a different direction of importance in her female centric novel – keeping the love interests alive but on the periphery of her core themes. She balances contemporary situations familiar to all of us with little glitches that can change our lives in both a positive way and a not so helpful direction, resolves the issues that she presents, and the result is a book of warmth, humor, and just plain fine storytelling that signals the arrival of a new voice.
Amy Summers seems to have the good life – an ad writer for InterFind (a very ‘now’ internet advertising outfit), an intact relationship with lawyer Bart, a nice apartment in Ann Arbor, Michigan – until a string of events alters her direction: she loses her job because she is ‘boring’, her traveling boyfriend Bart returns from Haiti to inform her he is leaving her for another woman, and jobless without a significant income she turns to writing novels without success. She discovers an old lottery ticket she believes to be Bart’s – worth 22 million dollars and decides to hold onto it until the seas settle. She meets the handsome and caring Josh Gray, a Life Coach who had been a Contractor until his co-worker friend dies by accident, and together they consider the fact that in life, friends have problems and need help. ‘Honesty and integrity are important in this world and so undervalued.’
Or to quote Pam’s style at this juncture, Josh tells Amy “I help people make life transitions, like changing jobs. Or I help them figure out what they want out of life, what they want to do, how they can make a difference, by helping them find their strengths.” “That stops me,” Amy says. “Right here, standing in front of me, is the answer to my prayer. He can help me figure out what I want to do. With my life. With my money. And he’s not too hard on the eyes, either.”
And change it does! Amy discovers Bart’s girlfriend Suzanne is pregnant, befriends old friends, and decides to start a magazine (“I want to start up a magazine. I’m going to call it “Good Enough” and it’s going to be a magazine to empower people. They’ll be self-help articles, but more than that. I’m going to remind people that they are already good enough! We’ll have articles on weight, fashion, meals, parenting, exercise – just like the other women’s magazines out there but the focus will be on knowing when you’ve done enough, or are enough, or have enough. Maybe we’ll even have regular sized models instead of those really tall, skinny girls and we’ll include healthy restaurants for quick take-out meals because sometimes you really don’t have time to cook.’ And with Josh’s guidance she does just that, and discovers aspects of telling the truth and being genuine that threaten then alter her life in a good way.
Though too long for a review it is important for incipient readers to hear Pam’s writing in her magazine because it brings it all ‘round. ‘Valentine Issue: The Greatest of These is Love - Good Enough magazine was created to give women a sense of self and to remind them that they are unique beings, created for a purpose, and are gifted in many different ways to make their place in the world. Whether we are writers, mothers, corporate mangers, cooks, or any number of other possibilities, what matters most is that we bring integrity, honesty and respect to those around us. But there’s more we can give. And it’s ours, free, given to us for the giving. It’s called forgiveness. There are so many times I’ve made mistakes and hurt those I care about. Maybe I snapped at a writer for missing a deadline. Perhaps I honked at a driver who cut me off, or I pushed past someone in the elevator. Maybe I lied about why I stayed home from work. Small misdemeanors, but still. Then there are the larger ones. Then times when we deeply hurt someone we care about. What is driving us when we do these things? For most of us, it’s not rudeness. It’s fear. Fear we’re going to be late. Fear we will be pushed aside if we don’t stand up for ourselves. Fear we will be rejected if our true colors show. Fear that we aren’t good enough. Love forgives. That’s a quote from the world’s best-selling book, The Bible. Love forgives. What I offer you is a challenge this February, to look around you at those who work beside you, whether it’s in the home or the office or the factory. Look at those who interact with you – the grocery clerk, the salesman, your child’s teacher, your spouse - and try to love them fully and without condition. If they don’t treat you with the respect you think you deserve, look deeper. Perhaps there is more going on. Perhaps there’s a reason for their actions. Forgive them. And here’s hoping, to those out there who I have hurt, that they have a big enough heart inside themselves to forgive me. I once thought I wasn’t good enough, but someone showed me I was. And I believe that now. No matter what.’

Received a copy from the author and this is my honest review.
Good Enough is a sweet, quiet book about building something out of your life when you think you’ve lost your chance at happiness. Amy is wrestling with these questions when she decides to hire a life coach – an extremely good-looking life coach. Josh is full of integrity and loaded with confidence in Amy’s talents and her personal goodness. Can Amy fulfill Josh’s faith in her and realize that she’s always been good enough?
I loved Good Enough, a fun story about rebuilding your life and helping people along the way. If you want to read something that will restore your good faith in the universe, even if it’s only for a little while, and take you on a satisfying journey along with its heroine as she follows her dreams, builds a new life, and makes connections along the way, pick up Good Enough and while away a few hours.
It’s rare when a book’s characters come to life so vividly that I find myself laughing and crying with them, and rarer still when they impart unforgettable life lessons that resonate long after I close the back cover.Good Enough is a breath of fresh air among romance novels – a true gift you won’t be able to put down that will leave you with a powerful message you’ll carry in your heart. Pamela Gossiaux, the author, creates hilarious laugh-out-loud scenes and is just as adept at breaking your heart. She captures the feeling of incredible moments – Christmastime, for example - and paints her characters’ emotions beautifully. Good Enough is an out-of-the-park home run. It sets up perfectly for a sequel and I hope and pray there is one!
Ms. Gossiaux has done it again; another colorful and creative story! The writing is fresh and lively, as are the characters. I was compelled to follow their lives and events and feel their emotions and feel a kinship with their thinking. All along the way, the writing kept me in step and also curious.
All in one day Amy is in an accident, loses her job because her boss thinks she’s boring and loses her boyfriend to another woman because she just isn’t much fun. Will she ever be good enough? In a chance encounter she meets Josh, a life coach who agrees to help her. Her dream has always been to have her own magazine and with his help and a winning lottery ticket that her ex lost she’s on her way to her dreams. The problem is that she’s falling for Josh and hasn’t been completely honest with him about where the money came from. Add in the woman who replaced her with her ex, a reformed homeless alcoholic and a unique community and you have a mix that will have you smiling and rooting for Amy. Pamela weaves a wonderful story of overcoming insecurities and winning your dreams.
A fun easy read when you want to escape from the world for a bit. I was sad to see it end! A book I will surely pass on for friends and family to enjoy.
