Rate this book

Land. Power. Influence. Mary O'Malley knows these are the only things that matter in her war-torn country. Determined to win back her ancestral home, she must embark on a journey across the Atlantic disguised as a cabin boy. But her ruse brings her under the control of a dangerous sea captain who demands from her the one thing she will never give—complete and total submission.

Captain Richard Grant runs a tight ship, and he didn't claw his way up through the ranks of the Royal Navy to be undone by a headstrong Irish girl hell-bent on jeopardizing his mission and his crew. If she insists on dressing like a man, then she can take his punishments. He demands obedience, but his insatiable need for her leads to a complex game of sex, desire, and dominance not even he can control.

Awakened by the passion Grant stirs in her, Mary finds herself falling for the stern captain. But when her false identity leads to rumors of her spying for the French, she must choose between her love for Ireland and the man who commands her body—and her heart.

Lots of naughty, escapist fun!

Mary has a foolproof plan to help the downtrodden, destitute villagers of Dunraven, Ireland: get the English Earl's son to fall in love with her. Once she's his wife, she can use her influence to ease their suffering. Everything seems to be falling into place until her mark decides to join the Royal Navy, leaving her with just a promise that he'll marry her when he returns.

Events force Mary to go off in search of him, and she's made to disguise herself as a boy so she can go to sea. She becomes a 'Captain's boy' to a very perceptive Captain Grant - the ruse lasts about 5 minutes before the sex games begin.

As I write this, I can see how the premise sounds cheesy or even creepy- but it wasn't. I loved it! The feisty and head-strong Mary clashed wonderfully with the oh-so-hot and broody Captain Grant. The writing was strong and managed to be erotic without being tainted by violence or non-consent. Add in a few over-the-top twists in the plot and I was left completely entertained!

I'll definitely be continuing with the series as the books come out.

I've never read C.B. Halverson before, but I'm a sucker for pirate/sea stories, and entitling a series "Irish Heroines" almost guarantees I will read it. This is also a Scorched title, which means that the heat level is high.

The Story-
Mary wants to marry Johnny so that she can take back her ancestral home, but she doesn't really love him. When Johnny goes off to war without leaving proof of their engagement, she decides to follow him. Posing as a cabin boy on a ship to find him, the Captain Grant quickly discovers her secret and lots of sex follows.

My Thoughts-
Insanely hot. This is erotica with a decent historical story as a frame. The heroine is plucky and sometimes unlikable, but she certainly keeps it interesting. I liked the hero quite a bit. This is a very fast read, and it kept me intrigued til the end.

The Bottom Line-
If you always wished that historical romance was more like 50 shades, or if you want some history with your BDSM, I heartily recommend this book. I will be going back to this author in the future. 4 stars

At first when I opened the book, I groaned because first person storytelling does not always work for me. However, by the end of the first few pages I was hooked, and I could not stop turning the pages until the end. Mary stows away as a cabin boy to serve under the magnetic and commanding Captain Grant. He is no one’s fool, he knows his “cabin boy” is a woman. I was captivated by the hint of a forbidden pleasure brewing between them. The captain and Mary’s attraction was palpable, and Mary soon realizes she craves exploring the darker side to her sexual awakening—dominance, spanking, roughness, and don’t forget pleasure tinged with the right erotic pain.

Each time they came together was fraught with tension and scorching sensuality. This resulted in me scrolling as fast as I could to devour Mary and the Captain’s journey to happy ever after. The writing was so vivid and authentic the words leapt off the pages painting erotically charged and gritty scenes.

Mary was such an intriguing character, at times she was unlikable because she appeared as if she was only loyal to herself and her desires. Yet, fascinatingly enough that is why I started to love her so much, because she was different, because she was bold, and not a timid creature, because she was fierce, resilient, and beautiful, because she was strong willed yet balanced with the right amount of feminine vulnerability. The situation she found herself in was fraught with danger, yet she managed herself so well. I loved her.

Overall, the plot was well done, the sex scenes hot, and the romance believable, sensual, hot, yet so sweet. My only issue was that I wished I had seen a peek of Mary running Dunraven, her home back in Ireland, and how her father and the people who needed her had flourished. 4.5 stars.

The Captain’s Rebel by C.B. Halverson is the first story I’ve read by this author, and being a Scorched title ensures there will be steamy scenes as part of the seafaring voyage taken by the heroine to secure her fortunes. It’s a swashbuckling adventure with a side of kink that leads to a very satisfying happy ever after.

Mary O’Malley is tired of waiting. Determined to secure her rightful place as the Lady of Castle Dunraven which once belonged to her ancestors, she slowly but surely seduces a promise of marriage from Johnny Brighton, son of the current Lord. When Johnny heads off to fight with the English Navy, her plans are thwarted. A scheming and jealous wannabe suitor destroys the papers proving Mary’s claims, leaving her running for her life, determined to find Johnny come hell or high water. Disguised as a cabin boy, Mary finds her way onto the ship that Johnny was last seen upon. The dangerous but very attractive Captain Richard Grant sees through her disguise and soon Mary finds herself embroiled in an affair with the Captain that opens up a whole new world of dominance and submission. Intrigue, passion, and danger court their every move and Mary must make the ultimate choice – her country, or her heart.

I really enjoyed this adventurous and very sexy romance! One must understand that Mary’s situation as a young woman in this time period is one of the limitations and she believes her only way out of poverty is to marry Johnny. It’s her singular goal, and she’ll do anything to achieve it. At the same time, she doesn’t love him, and though they have some sexual encounters at the start of the story before Johnny joins the Navy, she feels no real emotional attachment to him (nor him to her). Thus, the relationship she enters into with the Captain on his ship, where she must pretend to be his cabin boy and cater to him, is purely a sexual one (at least at first) and doesn’t change her goal to find Johnny and marry him. This may make her seem cold-hearted but in her circumstances survival trumps emotions. The story is told in first person point of view, which took a bit to get used to at first, but explains the thoughts behind her actions and makes her a more sympathetic character.

Captain Grant is a respected Navy Officer, used to a well-run ship and having people follow his orders. As Mary is the only woman on board, and one who attends him daily, he finds it hard to fight his attraction to her. A strapping punishment meted out as he would any other under his command leads to some surprising revelations, and starts a sexual relationship between them. Neither is under any illusion that what is happening between them is permanent. But along the way, something changes and their hearts get involved.

Of course, it’s never smooth sailing at sea, and when French enemy ships are spotted, all bets for an easy voyage are off. There are several action-packed scenes that add to the drama and intensity of the story as Mary finds herself embroiled in questions of crown and country. Mary and the Captain eventually get their happy ending but not without testing the limits of their trust and commitment to each other. The Captain’s Rebel is an exciting and lusty adventure on the high seas!

When I first read the book description of ‘The Captain’s Rebel’ I was immediately fascinated by this book. I love romance novels, and pirate stories so when I saw that this book was about a captain I knew I wanted to start reading this book.

In ‘The Captain’s Rebel’ we meet Mary O’Malley. Mary is determined to get her ancestors land back. To achieve that she is marrying one of her old friends, at least that is the plan. When things don’t go as planned, and her own life is in danger, Mary embarks on a journey across the Atlantic Ocean as a cabin boy. There Mary meets the ship’s captain Richard Grant. And soon Mary finds out that Richard isn’t one to fool easily.

The beginning of ‘The Captain’s Rebel’ was a little hard to get into if you ask me. It really took me some time to get used to the characters and the way they acted. Since ‘The Captain’s Rebel’ is a historical romance novel, I suspected a certain way of communication and courting, but this was definitely something else.

The main character Mary wasn’t really my kind of character. I began to like her more and more how farther I got into the story, but especially in the beginning I just didn’t really like her. She was to slutty, and kind of selfish is you ask me.
Captain Richard Grant was a character I liked from the start. He was mysterious, and kind of funny and he really had something charming and endearing about him.

‘The Captain’s Rebel’ had some BDSM in it, what isn’t really my thing but it didn’t bother me. It seemed to fit the characters and their romance. And let me tell you, the romance between Mary and Richard was really good. I just loved those two, and the whole BDSM bit, seemed to fit their relationship perfectly.

Although there were some parts about this book I didn’t really like, I loved most of this read. ‘The Captain’s Rebel’ is definitely a different kind of historical romance read than you usual see.

The Captain's Rebel surprised me in a very good way. This is the first book by the author that I have read and it was fast paced, entertaining, and scorching hot! So hot, that I thought my kindle might melt from the heat at various points in the book!

I really liked both Captain Grant and Mary. Both are strong individuals that haven't had the easiest lives and have fought and worked for everything they have. Although Mary's motives are honorable, I did have a little bit of a hard time liking her as she plotted and schemed to achieve her goals. She definitely grows as a character though, and I enjoyed her emotional and sexual discovery journey. Captain Grant also isn't all he seems to be, and I loved peeling back his gruff, alpha exterior to find a very caring and vulnerable man. The characters are multi-layered and their insecurities and anxieties only made them more endearing.

Although very hot, I honestly thought that the BDSM elements took center stage a little too much which is why this isn't a 5 star read for me. I wished that there were more scenes of Captain Grant and Mary developing their relationship or even an epilogue giving us a little peek into the future. I'm probably in the minority on that, but that's most likely because this is my first book with any BDSM. The writing is excellent though and I really felt like the author did her research. The ending brought everything full circle and even without an epilogue was very satisfying. The only other thing I would have wished for were some chapters from Captain Grant's point of view. The Captain's Rebel was an action packed, sexually charged romance that will keep you entertained until the very end!

Review for : The Captain's Rebel 4.5 Stars'The Captain's Rebel' by C. B Halverson is the story of Captain Richard Grant and Mary O’Malley. Mary thought she was in love with Johnny who she was great friends with. Johnny had promised to marry her but he ended up going off to war. Then her father tried to marry her off to someone that she didn't want to marry...not to mention that he was a mean. When she told the story of her and Johnny were to marry the next set of events has her on the run. That running took her to pretend to be a Cabin Boy on Captain Grants ship. Once they were at see and Captain Grant saw her he knew right away that she was a women and took her to be his 'Cabin Boy'. Mary gave him a false name of Margaret. 4.5 smoking hot oh captain, my captain stars!

Wow. This is my first book by C.B Halverson, and it was a great one. First off, Captain Grant is just a dish of delicious. I mean, a stern, sea faring, flogger-loving hero? YES PLEASE. The heroine Mary O'Malley (who goes by several names in this story) is more than a match for him, a smart, resourceful woman with more than her fair share of secrets, and someone who is not afraid to be a wee bit ruthless to protect what she values most. The sex is HOT and delightfully plentiful, and even better, neither is ashamed of who they are and what they want. (Did I mention the sex is hot? Because oooh boy they have some fun. On one very memorable occasion they are in a group situation, and high heat alert!)
Another aspect I really enjoyed was the nautical detail, especially the cabin 'boy' deck duties Mary undertakes, and the battles on the high seas. You can tell the author has done her research - not like a lecture, but in the right way, where you can practically see what is happening. I look forward to Ms Halverson's next book.

I received a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review.

Since I am a huge fan of romance I expect to find a book that will deliver on all aspects of the actual theme and when I selected "The Captain's Rebel," as part of my review profile I was expecting to find such traits. Morosely, this was a novel that I did not overall favor as I certainly did not care for the romance that I discovered. I use the term "romance," lightly because what was exchanged between the characters within this book more sex rather than actual to-die-for romance and that just didn't settle well with me.

Don't get me wrong a romantic foundation needs solid sensual content, but this book was far more Erotic in nature than in romance. This is my largest complaint not only with this book but with the Erotic genre in its entirely. I want more than just wall banger sex I need the satisfaction of a romantic HEA-ending. At least I root for the ending, especially in a historical-fiction novel.

I also did not like the overall writing of the book as it felt dry. I did not find this book to be entertaining and I wish that were not the case because this story had such potential. In my opinion, it needed a deeper plot, the author needed to go beyond the traditional lines of the genres, take bigger and bolder risks. I wanted an adventure in the great, vast of the ocean. I wanted a Captain to sweep me off the shore, not punish me with a whip and sex. Too over the top for this book.

Had this book been dialed down with the sex, pushed forward with the romance and been more of a wild adventure I would have liked it. To be fair this is not the worst book I have ever read. It is, in fact, a decent read, just isn't my ideal read.

I loved the beginning, in which we learn a bit about the Irish rising of 1798, Mary's role in it alongside her mother, who was killed, and Mary's consuming quest to win back her ancestral home via the seduction of and marriage to the local lord's son. I could even go along with her sudden arrest for theft and murder and her subsequent escape and journey to Gibraltar to find her fiance to clear her name. But then once she's on board ship with Captain Grant, things went downhill for me.

Don't get me wrong, I like sexy reads just fine, but I need more substance to go along with all the sex. I did not buy that somewhere along the way to the happily ever after she and Grant fell in love. That aspect of their relationship needed a lot more work. I did not buy that a 35-year-old sea captain, who had never considered settling down before, suddenly couldn't live without this little slip of a girl. Granted, she's salty and mysterious, but again, I really needed to see more relationship development. I actually grew a little bored with the nonstop sex, and I closed the book about two-thirds of the way through when an eye-rolling orgy popped up. But then I figured, I made it this far, let's just see how it ends.

Her plan to find her fiance and win back her home fell by the wayside but was conveniently resurrected at the end. It does end well, with everything wrapped up in a neat bow, but I just wasn't feeling it. I'm definitely in the minority on this one, so if erotica is your thing, you will probably really like this. I tend to stay away from it because I need more story and emotion with my sex, and this book reminded me of that.

Whoa dude, this should come with a complimentary bucket of ice water, hold the salt! I was used to Halverson's writing from her fairy fantasy series so I was prepared for something hotter, but couldn't have known it would get so very detailed. As per her previous works I was immersed in another world, and there were some very interesting characters populating this story!
I can definitely see why this book is generating some buzz- it's got some great scenes and combines historical romance, mystery, erotica and fighting female awesomeness!
Although I'm not sure I'd want to continue the series, it is really a matter of time for me, because I enjoyed reading this, but I can only read erotica when everyone else is asleep, it's just my preference, and quite honestly, that is a rare thing to have any time to myself when my household are asleep. I'm usually asleep too!
Overall I'd give this a rating of "a great read if you enjoy racy historical romance."
My thanks to the tour host and author for the review opportunity.

Oooh la la!!! Very enjoyable read. Not only is The Captain's Rebel a racy and saucy dish, it is well-written! Such a delightful change of pace from the dull bits between the hot scenes that you sometimes find in the "bodice ripper" category of romance novels.
The author has definitely done his/her homework on Irish history, English history, Maritime history, and how things work on sailing ships. But not in a boring Tom Clancy way. No need to skip over the between parts. They are interesting, well-written, educational - but not at all boring. A nicely balanced read.
The heroine is fun, intelligent, sassy, and lovable. The Captain is such a complex character that I can't possibly describe him in this little box. The villain is evil, just as he should be. I fell in love with all of them!
You will not be disappointed by this exciting and spicy tale!

This is a new author for us and we are glad to announce we loved our first read by her.

What an exciting read from the very first pages. The characters were griping and exciting funny and love-able. A historical romance with an erotic twist and unlike anything I read before and I loved it.

Grant and Mary two opposites that have common ground when it comes to their sexual pleasure.A game that started out to protect Mary turned out to be so much more. This couple had some major chemistry that brought out each others inhibitions that had them playing and acting out some of their most sensual sexual fantasies.

I always have a favorite character and mine is going to be Grant.I loved how interesting he was,he had a commanding personality, tall dark handsome, had a dangerous aura, was possessive, protective and into sexual kink.I enjoyed the game he played with Mary it was a sensual dance of cat and mouse.I loved how he saw the real Mary and not the Mary she pretended to be.He new she was a strong and determined sensual women who would do whatever it took to get the thing she wanted most.Grants perfect match yet belongs to another.

I admired Mary and her determination to protect and give a better life to those people she cared about.Found her to be smart ,sexy, open minded, tough enough to protect herself on more than one occasion and just down right love able.I loved how she was willing to experiment sexually and how she demanded what she wanted and needed during herliaisons with Grant.I love how Bold she was for a girl who was raised to be prim and proper but anything but.

I have to say I rooted for this couple from the very beginning to find the love and happiness that they both deserved .To be able to overcome the odds for them to be together.

Favorite Scene - When Mary was forced to bring sexualgratification to a couple while pretending to be a man and how she did the deed with a straight face while I laughed so hard through the entire scenario.

A page turner from beginning to end and I could not put the book down until it was finished.I love reading the normal historical romances but loved even more that the author decided to add a bdsm /erotica element into the mix to change it up a bit for these amazing characters. The story had excitement, intrigue, sexy captains, warfare love, humor, and some major surprises and some omg moments that I did not expect along with secrets and lies coming to life. All the elements I love in a story to make it a amazing and interesting read for me.

I love when I fall in love and can connect with the characters I read about and I was able to do that with this couple it makes more of an enticing read for me and then I know that I will absolutely love the story I am reading.I have to say that this author was able to make me laugh as well as cry throughout the story.

A recommend read for all and we are very much looking forward to another romance novel in the near future. This story goes into the keeper pile to read again at a later date. The author did an amazing job with her debut novel.

Well, The Captain’s Rebel certainly surprised me! Having previously enjoyed NA books from this author, and despite being warned about the content of this particular book, I guess I had preconceived notions about the writer’s ability to change age groups (and heat it up, maybe). Yeah, well, I was wrong.

I was not disappointed by the quality of the prose, nor the promise of an intriguing storyline, both things I’ve come to expect from C.B. Halverson. In fact, the storyline is so captivating, I would have liked to see it further fleshed out and fully realized…but the sheer amount of sex would preclude that possibility, unless the book were extended to Lord of the Rings length!
Historical elements are skilfully woven into the...um...romance. I’m hesitant to label the book as ‘romance’, because it went way beyond ‘boy meets girl and they get it on’. All the way to thermonuclear hot. And, nope, I did not see that level of intensity coming!
The heroine, Mary, verges on unlikeable in her manipulation of the hapless Johnny, which at first prevented me bonding with her plight. On reflection, though, the characterization paints a more realistic portrayal of a woman intent on her mission. And Captain Grant...well, swoon. Perfect in SO many ways. Some days, you have to be grateful for digital books, because the pages don’t betray you by falling open to the well-thumbed parts, outing your favorite scenes to the world. And, there are some pages in there that would be dog-eared in my copy!
This genre can have a tendency to be a series of sex scenes linked by blocks of ‘fill in’ prose. You know, those bits we skip through to get to the juicy scenes! However, this was certainly not the case with The Captain’s Rebel. The book starts with a bang, and is an absolute page-turner. In fact, one of my few criticisms would be that perhaps there was a little too much sex (not something I thought I’d ever say!) or maybe it was that the sex scenes were a little too focused on the BDSM aspect. Perhaps this is because I was eager to see forward momentum in the storyline, as it held such promise. And, of course, is BDSM is your jam, you’ll absolutely love it.

I’d certainly be keen to read this again if it were written as a historical that just ‘happened’ to contain sex, as I’d love to know more of Mary’s story.

I was provided a free copy of this book by NetGalley in return for my honest review.

Thank you to the author and Entangled for allowing me to read an ARC

This book was not what I was expecting at all! This is 50 Shades of Pirates! I didn't even think that way of "acting" sexually existed then.

I was hooked instantly in this story. I think what intrigued me so much was Mary. She was a girl taken by a boy who made a lot of promises to her without actually keeping them. The author sets up what we'll call a weak heroine here. But then about two chapters later, she makes a 360 and suddenly this girl becomes a strong willed woman out to get him back by sneaking onto a ship as a boy. But even better, she's not chasing after him for love, but rather to reclaim her home, which marriage to him would bring. And I loved this!! It set up a strong character but also shows us she does have a soft, feminine side about her.

Then there is Captain Grant, who is strong, brave and hot. I think he's a great and fair captain, making him a likable character. But then there's the fun and sexual side of him which is just plain great.

The sex...oh where do I begin...? It took me bu surprise. I have read this author's NA series and this is just the complete opposite of that. It's really the opposite of what I expected. But that's a good thing. It isn't a historical romance with tame sex, I'll say.

The sex brought on the romance between the two of them and may I say *swoon*. The reason I am giving this 4 and not 5 stars is only because I wish there was more "them" scenes and less sex scenes. They were very good together and I liked the scenes where they were just being themselves together and I wish there was a bit more of those to strengthen their romance.

Without spoiling the ending, I will say I was surprised and happy by it. It didn't go exactly as I assumed it would so I liked the surprise but more so, I liked the plot the ending had. It was fast paced and heart pounding and just plain fantastic.

I like the author in general it seems, no matter what she writes. And I look forward to reading what else she writes under this alias.

Okay, I know. Gorgeous cover, right? Go on, stare at it a bit. I’ll wait.

Wipe the drool off your chin now.

This book is just as delicious as that cover. The historical detail, the battle scenes, the motivations, and believability, of the main character, Mary, it’s all fantastic.

It’s not your typical arranged marriage historical romance either.

One of the things I love about Ms. Halverson’s writing (other than the fantastic sense of place I get when I read her books) is that her characters aren’t Mary Sues. They don’t just float along doing nothing much of anything, letting stuff happen to them.

Oh no, her characters take life by the balls and make it say uncle, just like women have done throughout history.

To see that in a historical novel, a woman bent on doing whatever she must to reach her goals? Absolute perfection. I loved every second of it.

THEN we get some delicious, hot as sin, kinky, sex to go with it. Being a practitioner, I’m always a little leery of books that advertise kink, but I didn’t have any issues with presentation. You really can’t go wrong with this book. It’s just so scrumptious.

SCORES:

Readability: 5/5 Dropping my tablet on my face falling asleep level of good. The plotting, pacing, action and sex is all right where it needs to be to keep the pages turning.

Arcs: 5/5 Masterfully executed character arcs, story arc is fantastic.

Craft: 4/5 Well-written, well-edited. A couple historical details that weren’t quite right that threw me out of the story because I’m a history geek, (Masters in World History/professional genealogist/historical reenactor level of geekdom) but, to many readers it’s not likely to matter.

So, whatcha waiting for? Go get it!

Note: If you’re demisexual or asexual, probably not the book for you. It didn’t bother *me* because erotic romance is my brain-candy, but there is a LOT of sex in this book, and it happens pretty early on in the relationship.

WITTY MESMERICING SCORCHING ROMANCE

C.B. Halverson is a new author for me. But I love finding new authors to add to my favorites list. When I do find one I place them on my auto buy for new releases as soon as they become available. This book will be placed on my keeper read and reread shelf. The Captain’s Rebel is a complete romance filled with unexpected hot, steamy passion between the characters, danger, action, pirates, disagreements, mystery, laughter, tenderness, strength, and eventually trust beyond question.
The well-developed characters pull the reader into their world and allows them to feel the faraway land where the story unfolds in such a way they may feel as if they go back in time to this historical era, become part of the characters, and feel the gripping tale unfold. This author has the remarkable talent to grab the reader at the first page and hold them through the last. Excellently written, the plot and characters become a part of the reader’s day.

Captain Richard Grant didn’t fight his way to the ranks of the Royal Navy to be undone by an independent headstrong lady, hell bent on destroying his mission. This hellion insists on dressing like a man, and therefore should take his punishments. Demanding obedience, he finds his need become insatiable and leads to a game of sex, desire, and dominance, raging out of even his control.

Mary O’Malley is determined to win back her ancestral home. Disguising herself as a cabin boy she embarks on a journey to make this happen. But the stern captain demands complete and total submission, two things she will never give. When her false identity leads to rumors of her being a spy, she must choose between the frustrating captain and her love for Ireland.

All the reader should do is open to page one of this fast paced read and become completely engrossed. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves sexy, steamy, passionate romances.

IT IS SUPER WEIRD TO READ A HR IN FIRST P.O.V. and it started off rocky, until the characters meet for real.

OUR HERO is a Captain who rose from the ranks of a commoner, having a stowaway in his ship bounded on some mission. As a man who observes more than he talks, he knew immediately that Michael O'Brien is actually the same woman who was assaulted by his man and demanding to know where her fiance was. Their attraction was quite obvious yet barely there...its lIke you already know its there but the author laced it under layers of subtlety that makes you pant for me. I think the sexual tension was right on point, with a masculine Captain and his Cabin `boy'. Its not hard to discern that Richard fell in love with her first, because I'm quite certain he is not the kind of man to jump at a woman just because. Richard's character is quite straightforward yet a little awe-inspiring. He's the kind of man one can rely on to protect, care and love for. Great hero!

OUR HEROINE annoyed the hell out of me in the beginning because she struck me as a fastious and materialistic HOE. I didn't like the way she manipulated her childhood lover into marriage, always belittling him for being dumb and such. She gave her virginity to him when he decides to go off to war, just to secure her relationship with him. HAH! THAT IS UNTIL SHE DISCOVERS THAT HE DUPED HER! Frankly, I was doing a happy dance and said to her 'That's what you get bitch!'. Thus, she begins her journey to hunt down her self-acclaimed fiance, becoming a cabin boy who later becomes deeply and sexually involved with her Captain. I was a little suprised to read some erotica and barely skimming the surface bondage play in this story.

OVERALL if I do suffer a love-hate relationship with the characters or story, id say that the erotica makes up for everything. Still, this was a pretty unusual HR story that you rarely can find at all.

Two young people fall in love one goes off to war, the other has to face the plans her father has made for her to marry a man she doesn’t love who is mean. With these turn of events she runs right into the arms of Captain Richard Grant. But I am getting ahead of myself first she dress like a cabin boy before boarding his ship hoping she can pull this off because if not she will be in for a life of pain with the plans her father has for her. It doesn’t take long for her to be found out, one look and the captain new she was a women. The captain isn’t very happy and makes demands of his own which leads to some very hot passionate scenes that will make you blush.

I really liked the plot and the characters that lead to a very entertaining read that held my attention and kept me turning the pages. The chemistry between these two is hot and off the charts filled with passion and longing. A very well written and thought out story that is intriguing with vivid details that makes you almost feel like you are right there watching.

Mary had me in her hands from the start with all she had to deal with. Her love of her country is outstanding it made me proud of her and all she stood for. She isn’t a woman to take what is dished out but stands proud and is demanding in her own way. Captain Grant had to do a little work for me to like him but he came through even with that tough side and a voice that make grown men jump to his demands he became a very likable character. The author was able to turn him in to a wonderful man any women would be happy to have. Erotic is not a genre I read a lot of most is lacking in plot and story not the case with this author she knows how to pull of the plot, love scenes to really make it an interesting read filled with excitement and thrills. I look forward to reading more of her work.

The Captain's Rebel (Irish Heroines) by C. B. Halverson is a interesting read. Normally, I do not enjoy first person reads, however, once you start reading this story, you soon forget it's written in first person, you get caught up in the story.

Captain Richard Grant and Mary O'Malley know that land, power and influence has no place where love is considered. Neither are what a appear, both have insecurities, anxieties and their multi-layered personalities, brings this story to life.
I enjoyed watching their relationship come across, in their story of danger, secrets, compromise, submission and the promise of love.

Steady paced, sensually charged with BDSM, and sizzling hot sensual scenes. If you do NOT enjoy this much sensuality, then "The Captain's Rebel" may not be a story for you to read. However, the context of this story well out weighs the sensual aspects of the story, in my opinion.
This author was a new author to me, and I look forward to reading more of her intriguing stories.
Mary was an usual heroine, an Irish lass at that, but a resourceful one as well, a definite rebel. Grant was a powerful captain who quickly made his way through the Royal Navy ranks. He doesn't intend to mess up his mission, not even for a bonny lass, who dresses as a boy. Fans of sexually charged stories with complicated, and engaging characters and a plot with many aspects to the story, are sure to enjoy " The Captain's Rebel". I certainly did.

The Captains Rebel by C.B. Halverson
5 star review
Reviewed on behalf of 2 girls who love books
What a great story!! First I loved that the main character was a heroine and second that it featured rather sexy sounding Captain!! I love historical romance stories so as soon as I read the synopsis I was eager to start!
I loved the setting for the story and the plot. It was totally unique and this made the story even more enjoyable for me! I loved the characters – Mary was great! I loved her feistiness and they was she wasn’t afraid to go for what she wanted – even if it didn’t always go the way she wanted anticipated. Captain Richard Grant was so sexy!! He also had a past that was great to read about in the book. He was certainly sexy and dominating but also showed a gentle side sometimes towards Mary.
We start the story in Ireland where Mary is trying to get her ancestral home back. She embarks on a journey disguised as a ‘cabin boy’ except she doesn’t realise she will end up on a ship with a Captain who not only discovers who she is but in turn wants her total submission.
I haven’t previously read anything by this author and I can’t wait to read more of her work. The descriptive writing in the story was great, I could imagine what I was reading and felt like I was on that ship with them! There were some great twists to the story that I wasn’t expecting. Some of the scenes between him and Mary were HOT!!! I loved reading about Mary and Richard’s journey! I definitely recommend it!

WOW was I shocked when I started reading this book! I knew that it was labeled as Erotica, but I was not expecting it to be so hot that I thought my iPad was going to burst into flames! The way I explained this to my besty and hubby was "This is Fifty Shades meets Historical!" But it was also entertaining and full of an amazing story line!

I really liked Mary and Captain Grant, both are strong individuals that have had to fight and work for everything they have. I may not have liked the way Mary plotted and schemed to try to get her way, but I can understand her motives enough that it didn't make me hate her.

The reason I am only giving this book a 4 star is because I feel like the story was missing a bit at the end. I didn't expect it to end and wrap up like that, it felt to quick. I expected there to be more after story I guess. BUT that is my opinion and even though it ended abruptly I still very much LOVED this book. It kept me interested and sucked in for the entire thing, which made getting anything done EXTREMELY hard!!

So if your're looking for something that is Historical but HOT AND SPICY give this book a shot. You will not be disappointed!

I received this book from net galley for an honest review. Thank you!!

This book was different than what I was expecting it to be. It contains adventure, action, romance, and betrayal.
Mary O’Malley is Irish and wants to get back her ancestral home that was stolen from her family. She is friendly with the current heir who desires her. After Johnny leaves to be part of the British navy, Mary goes after him because a letter was destroyed that claimed Mary to be Johnny's fiancee and heir in case something happened to him.
Captain Richard Grant has a strict protocol and most of his crew respect him. Mary sneaks aboard his ship as his cabin boy but he sees through her right away. Both are attracted to one another. The "punishments" Mary receives from the Captain make her desire him even more and Richard wants her in his bed. Mary is keeping secrets from Richard but he knows she is looking for her captured fiancee but does not love him. However, there is a traitor aboard the ship that will use Mary for his own purposes. Mary does not want her secret to be revealed but there are consequences to her actions. Richard tries to help Mary, but she is afraid to reveal all her secrets. As they grow closer, Mary begins to love Richard and tells him the truth. However, a spy still remains and the punishment is severe. Will Mary find Johnny and save her home or will she choose the man she loves?

*voluntarily and honestly reviewed the ARC I received from IndieSage PR*

I'm not one to love historical romances but this book has made me rethink everything I've been missing out on! Mary is an Irish born rebel who's just one of the many that suffered the effects of the Rebellion in 1798 (I actually learned something) and when the one thing to grant her home freedom disappears, she goes out to retrieve it. At all costs.

The tone of this story and writing style were amazing. I loved how stubborn she was, how persistent and passionate she felt for her country. Grant, a captain who knew more than anyone about hardship and hard work, refuses to grasp her understanding of boarding a Navy's ship under guise. Yet when push comes to shove, he finds himself doing everything in his power to keep her safe. Their chemistry was off the charts, and since I'm a sucker for the hate-first-love-later romances, it wasn't hard to get into their dominate games of keeping control. There was adventure, suspense, a thrilling secret that would make or break them. The ending was a little weird for me but in all honesty, I don't exactly have the grounds to judge how one would react in the face of danger. But still, it left me very satisfied in the end and I can't wait to see what other Irish heroines Halverson has in store. Definite recommend for you history buffs that enjoy a good tale.

This was my first C. B. Halverson book. I wasn't sure if I was going to like this story, I've read many books and for the most part, first person really doesn't work for me. This is not the case with this book. It was very well done.

Mary is a very strong-willed woman. She is more than happy to marry her childhood friend to regain her family's lands and to actually help the people who live on them. Mary and her beau Johnny become betrothed in secret and she is beyond happy until Johnny tells her he is going off to war. All hell breaks loose when her father tries to marry her to another man. And Mary's adventure begins!

I really enjoyed the basic story in this book. And then there were the hot parts! LOL Wasn't strictly necessary but made the story and the situation so much more intense. The relationship between the "cabin boy" and the Captain was very well written, and well layed out. The pace of the story kept me interested and engaged not letting me put it down too much. It was so intense that it has taken me quite a few days to formulate my thoughts on the book.
I will look for more by this author, this was a hot, sweet, thoughtful romance.
5 stars for me!

First off this was my first "Scorched" book. The story and characters were well written...Mary is the descendant of the owner of the Castle Dunraven. She plans on may the New Lord's son and reclaim her rightful place. The adventure and means to get it done was quite ambitious! Her Johnny goes off to war and certain twists lead Mary to go after him. She becomes a "cabin boy" to Captain Richard Grant. He knows instantly he is a she and does his best to protect her. More twists and she ends up accused of being a French spy and must escape the gallows and ends up on another ship to head back home. Well a French ship attacks and kills everyone but Mary and who is the one to save her Johnny the now traitor for the French. She is angry and wants him to leave with her and boom they are attacked by the English ...Captain Grant. More Twist ensue and things certainly end up with Mary on the winning side. Great story....LOTS of sizzle a bit too much for me. "scorched" stories are not for me. That does NOT mean it is poorly written. It is a great love story of a woman determined to fight for her people, her home and her country. The Erotica part is not for me...If you like that sort of thing then you will NOT be disappointed in this book! You will love both then!

This was a really hot read! The book started off slow, but don't let that deter you ;)
Mary O'Malley is an Irish lass who is on a mission and she takes no prisoners - matter of fact, she takes out a couple of them....
Her plans to betroth her man, Johnny get thrown by the wayside and she sets out - desperate to find him (he's enlisted in the service and has gone away on a ship)
Stowed away on a ship as a ship hand she becomes know as 'boy' and only Captain Grant knows her secret. The virile Captain taps into Mary and they enjoy many nights of sexual pleasures in his quarters.

This journey to finding Johnny is full of twists and turns (both in the bed and on deck) Does Mary find her man Johnny? Will the sexy Captain Grant win her heart?

This book has explicit sex and BDSM scenes, including F/F, so I would recommend the reading age be over 18. If you're looking for a hot and spicy read, then grab this one!

I was provided a free copy of this book via Net Galley by the author for my honest review.

High Seas Hotness! The Captain's Rebel had EVERYTHING that I like in an interesting historical romance!

Mary was bold, brash, independent, strong yet feminine and a complete rebel that took no guff. Richard was dashing, swoon-worthy, totally in charge and an alpha with a heart. Their chemistry was so explosive, I thought my Kindle was going to spontaneously combust! Heads up... This is no vanilla tome! The heat level is off the charts, and the naughty factor is a 10+! There is also a very intriguing plot line that immediately draws you in and continues to move at a rapid clip, keeping you swiping the pages with an enthusiasm and voraciousness that rivals the lusty sexploits of Mary and the good Captain! The characters are complex and well-developed and are as much fun to read out of the Captain's cabin as in.

*I received a complimentary ARC of this book from NetGalley & Entangled Publishing, LLC in order to read and provide a voluntary, unbiased and honest review, should I choose to do so.
