Looking to read the next great romance after Twilight and 50 Shades of Grey? Well, you've found it. The first in the Passion and Perseverance Trilogy, "First Impressions" is modern re-telling of the epic romance between Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy with a darkly sensual twist.
Beth Bennet is on top of the world. All of her hard work and dedication has finally paid off with her career in PR reaching new heights and marriage is the last thing on her mind. That is until her father decides to make some big changes in the family firm which puts William Darcy directly in her path, throwing off every well-laid plan she'd made. Challenging his control at every turn, will Beth be able to win him over before she loses control of herself?
Darcy’s dark past has made him cold, controlling and completely irresistible. Yet, the only thing he can't seem to resist is Beth. Will he be able to relinquish his need for control for the sake of love? Or will his past and their families succeed in keeping them apart?
In the 20th century, this adaptation of Pride and Prejudice becomes a tale of passion and persistence when two very independent people struggle to maintain control over their lives as a love they'd never planned on consumes them.
Rebecca Sharp always loved a good love story. Let's face it, when you include a romance novel on your 8th grade summer reading list just to see if the teacher would notice (she didn't!), she was bound to give writing one of her own a go. There's really no corner of romance that she doesn't (or wouldn't) enjoy writing, except maybe aliens, much to her husband's dismay, so her large catalog features a little something for everyone. However, her love of shows like NCIS and Criminal Minds makes her favorite stories to write the ones with some kind of suspense and crime solving.
When she's not writing, she's at her office treating patients, and somewhere between those two things, you'll find her wandering the globe with her husband always searching for their next adventure.

This modern variation veers little from the outline of canon. However, the author needs to proofread her text. (Yes, I know she is a physician, but this must have been a hurry up and get it done book as many errata are glaring at the reader.)
My second comment has to do with a warning: this is for MA only. There are at least three graphic descriptions of sex scenes and one involves spanking.
Darcy and Bingley come to town but this time it is as Bingley's law firm is considering absorbing the Bennet law firm. Darcy, as an investment banker, is along to advise his friend. They meet the Bennet family at the New York Bar Association Gala. Of course, no variation is complete without an insult having to do with how "tolerable" Beth Bennet is. She, however, in this story waits and then comes from around the colonnade from behind which she overheard him and lets him know in no uncertain terms how she did hear him and then gives him her comeback. But when he grabs her arm as she goes to leave...the sparks are not from their verbal interaction but a pure explosion of sexual attraction.
Beth Bennet is one of the top publicists at the Gardiner Group and has just landed the account of the DeBourgh Diamonds (...You know where this is going.) It turns out that Catherine deBourgh knows about Darcy being in town and the connection to the Bennet family so she "instructs" Beth to gather any and all news about Darcy. Beth is also told to make sure Catherine and her daughter, Anne, get invitations to the Longbourne’s Charity Ball. It is at this function that all that sexual tension finally reaches a climax.
But the morning after William is gone, (leaving a note) and then Beth learns that Charles Bingley, who seemed to be on the verge of proposing to Jane, has also left town and doesn't know when he will be back.
Again: we have Wickham, Char Lucas and her family and the five Bennet sisters. Bill Collins works at Longbourne Associates, John Bennet’s law firm and is a distant relative. But Collins' very strict and uncompromising personal and religious beliefs don't allow Mr. Bennet to even consider turning the firm over to him as Bennet is preparing to retire.
This was an interesting read. The William Darcy in this book seems so much more a man who wants to control everything and everyone and who offers NO explanations nor even a "please" when he wants something done. I wanted more development in the coming together of minds. There was more time and detail given to the bedroom interactions than discussion about likes, dislikes, hobbies, books read, family history, life goals, etc.
"Darcy was the first person to expect from her what she expected from herself." Where is this coming from? Has she had any conversation with him about goals? Has he made any comments about her achievements and/or lack of such?
There is a second book, Second Chances, following up on this book.
A modern re-telling of part of Pride and Prejudice. I admit to not liking the two main characters but I did finish the book. All the mature content was skipped as it's not something that I have an interest in reading.
This modern variation was a slow-burning romance, intersped with a trickling of white hot flames as Pride and Prejudice met Fifty Shades of Grey.
Beth Bennet's family had a law firm that her father wanted to sell to enable him to retire. Bingley were interested, bringing his banker friend Darcy to help him assess the business. The insult were made at an assembly but the physical attraction between ODC were soon blatantly obvious with hot interludes in between the bickering. It was an engaging read that held my attention but it left me with the feeling that their attraction was a purely physical one. This is the first part of a trilogy so although this book had a satisfying ending, it did not end in marriage and I suspect that the misunderstandings are to be continued in the next installment.
Recommend for those who like FSG and do not mind OOC behaviour.
This is a modern Pride and Prejudice variation. It is a very mature story with so many name brands mentioned, you would almost think they are sponsors. Darcy and Elizabeth follow the cannon plot with the exception that that can't keep their hands of each other. I did enjoy the story and the modern representation of the characters.
I like modernizations of p&p and had enough delayed shipping credit on Amazon to purchase this installment. The main characters are nothing like JA wrote them. All EB does is cry, cry, cry. Mr. D just wants his way and doesn’t communicate. Anne makes no sense at all in this installment. I skimmed most of it after the first five chapters. An editor would have helped a lot. Nothing much happens but I guess it can’t when your characters don’t talk to each other.
I was actually surprised by how much I enjoyed this story. As an all time lover of Jane Austen and romance novels, I love this funfic story, and the steamy scenes were oh so STEAMY!!! Dr. RS actually exceeded my expectations by putting Mr Darcy into his very alpha self.
It turned into 50 shades of grey somewhere around the middle. It wasn't bad but it wasn't what i was expecting out of a pride and prejudice variation. It's well written and the plot is interesting.
One of the best modern P&P stories I've read, it has drama, passion, cliffhangers, seriously once you start reading you can't stop :). I recommend this story very much.
So this is a new author and I picked up a recommendation of one of her books from the Kindle Korner.
I looked at this trilogy but as per the norm we are enticed to buy book 1 @ 99P then book 2 is £3.99 and then of course book 3 is whopped up to £4.99.
As a reader this is becoming irritating and is almost as bad as the need to have cliffhangers on each trilogy instead the ploy now is to have the trilogy a la cliff hanger with a ridiculous pricing structure for the three books.
SO if the price of the other books drop to a realistic price for a trilogy released via Kindle I will buy BUT until then another parked trilogy that doesn't entice me enough to read.
Refreshing This series came as shock to me to see pride and prejudice in a contemporary format I didn’t think this it could work. But omg it did even as my brain compare it constantly to the original. This adaptation of the classic is refreshing and uplifting. I am about excited to see where this trilogy will take me bring on the ‘Second Chances’
Great passionate, refreshing, modern pride and prejudice variation. It has some of original similar situations but less of the characters, which is better. Just had some timelines that were wrong.
My favourite love story given a modern twist. Beth and Darcy are characters that stand the test of time and fit perfectly with the modern setting without betraying their core personalities. I absolutely loved this book and cannot wait to see where the next installment of the series will take them.
