Born in 1965, I grew up on a working cattle ranch in the desert thirty miles from Wickenburg, Arizona, which at that time was exactly the middle of nowhere. Work, cactus and heat were plentiful, forms of recreation were not. The TV got two channels when it wanted to, and only in the evening after someone hand cranked the balky diesel generator to life. All of which meant that my primary form of escape was reading.

At 18 I fled to Tucson where I attended the University of Arizona. A number of fruitless attempts at productive majors followed, none of which stuck. Discovering I liked writing, I tried journalism two separate times, but had to drop it when I realized that I had no intention of conducting interviews with actual people but preferred simply making them up.

After graduating with a degree in Creative Writing in 1989, I backpacked Europe with a friend and caught the travel bug. With no meaningful job prospects, I hitchhiked around the U.S. for a while then went back to school to learn to be a high school English teacher. I got a teaching job right out of school in the middle of the year. The job lasted exactly one semester, or until I received my summer pay and realized I actually had money to continue backpacking.

The next stop was Australia, where I hoped to spend six months, working wherever I could, then a few months in New Zealand and the South Pacific. However, my plans changed irrevocably when I met a lovely Swiss woman, Claudia, in Alice Springs. Undoubtedly swept away by my lack of a job or real future, she agreed to allow me to follow her back to Switzerland where, a few months later, she gave up her job to continue traveling with me. Over the next couple years we backpacked the U.S., Eastern Europe and Australia/New Zealand, before marrying and settling in the mountains of Colorado, in a small town called Salida.

In Colorado we starved and froze, started our own electronics business, and had a couple of sons, Dylan and Daniel. In 2005 we shut the business down and moved back to Tucson.

I am currently working on finishing The Devastation Wars fantasy series and attending graduate school.

Ace Lone Wolf and the Lost Temple of Totec (Lone Wolf Howls) by Eric T Knight is a kindle scout book I won and boy am I glad I did! I put on my spurs and cowboy hat and rode this book to the end and it was one wild ride! None stop action, adventure, and a great read. A western but a treasure hunt in one. There has GOT to be book 2! The author can not leave the book hanging like this plus we want more of ACE! Great book, pays to go to Kindle scout!

I am not a fan of how this story ended. We really did NOT need a cliff-hanger ending. Does the story continue on to the next book? Or does the 2nd book just begin somewhere else?

The book really did not fulfill what I was expecting from the title. Oh yeah, they finally made it to the temple, but near the very end. But most of the book was Ace just going from one town to another and some famous name dropping with various western characters (Doc Holiday and such). It did have some good action but a weak (IMHO) ending.

A series like this should not make readers HAVE to read the next book, it should make them WANT to read the next issue, but not by having cliff-hangers or incomplete endings. Give us good exciting writing and then we will look forward to more. I am hesitant to pick up more books about Ace.

What a GREAT BOOK!! Eric offers up a fantastic plot in Ace Lone Wolf's first book. The story started off strong quickly and the action never stopped until the last page. I was disappointed with the abrupt cliffhanger style ending because I did not want this story to end. Ace Lone Wolf is "rescued" by Victoria and Block. As a requirement of his rescue, he is to help them find the Lost Temple of the God Totec, therefore, finding Victoria's lost father. Adventures Abound! My only compliant was some of the extra characters, like Doc Holliday, seemed a little cheesy, but other than that you will have an afternoon of fun. I am eagerly awaiting Ace's next adventure.

What a cliffhanger! This is a story hits the ground running and just keeps going. Ace and his party manage to run into just about everyone famous in Wild West during their travels to the temple--he's a western Forest Gump! The book manages to be an adventure story, western, and mystery all at the same time. I loved Ace and his worldview. We see so many things for the first time through his eyes, everything from fountains, to statues, to fancy towns where "the paint goes all the way around the buildings". He is practical and funny, taking things as they come, something the shaman of his tribe and his grandfather taught him. While Ace dislikes being judged by his Native American roots, he is shaped by them all the same. He loves his bad-tempered horse and can't stand to a woman cry. He gets swept along on an adventure with people that the reader knows aren't trustworthy, and the mystery isn't just finding the temple but also discovering their game and motives. It was a deeply satisfying story that ended on an astounding cliffhanger. I have to read the next book right away to find out how in the world Ace will make it out of this situation!

"From A Train Robber to A Jungle Hunter"

Heads up on this western story. Yup, it's got train robbers, ruffians, bad beer, and a wise-arse horse. It also deals with the Earp brothers and Doc Holliday. This novel is a definite comedy and a really fun read. As I got into this story, I started visualizing it as an entertaining movie. At first I felt this may be similar to the Indiana Jones stories. But here, the hero-to-be is Ace Lone Wolf, a half-Apache gunslinger who is always surrounded with trouble. When he's just about to be hanged for a murder he did not commit, a beautiful English noblewoman, Victoria, comes to his rescue. Her massive manservant breaks Ace out of jail ... literally! Ace owes her, so he leads them on a search for Victoria's father who disappeared on his archaeology search for the lost Temple of Totec. Definitely, this is a very entertaining story, which won't end here. Want a laugh? Read it.

This was a fun book to read. I'm usually not a fan of Westerns, but this was much more than that. It has an Indiana Jones feel to it, and is more of an adventure. You'll meet many personalities from those days gone by: Wyatt Erp, Doc Holliday, and more. The characters are colorful, in more than just the words the author uses to describe them. Their actions are hilarious at times. They'll make you laugh at the unexpected comments they spit out. I especially liked the "suspended sentence" Ace received for being convicted of murdering a Marshall.

Don’t Judge by Appearances

Ace is a half-Native American gunslinger in the Old West. He hates it when people judge him by his looks. Doesn’t Ace realize that when he points one finger, there are four more pointing back at HIM?

My favorite character was Block. After you finish the book, see if you agree with me.

Ace Lone Wolf is a multi-dimensional book. It’s a western. It’s a mystery. It’s even (kinda-sorta) a romance. Above all, it’s a fun book that’ll keep you guessing and turning the pages to find out what happens next.

I received a free copy by nominating the book through the Kindle Scout program.

Page turner.

This book hooked me from the first sentence. Three dimensional main character that you really come to know and feel for, fast paced action, and an old west world that artfully combines reality and mysticism. Fans of stories like Indiana Jones or The Mummy will love this book. My only critisism is that after the main crisis, the end was a bit abrupt, which I found jarring, but that certainly wasn't enough to effect my enjoyment of the book. I will certainly read more in this series. Great book!

I immediately went and bought the rest of the series. That should pretty much paint the whole picture. This series has it all, action, adventure, humor and a horse that bites and kicks the hero whenever he gets a chance (and the horse LIKES him).

A fast paced romp through the old west, this page turner's unique characters stick with you well after the readings done. This series takes you into a world at once familiar but with a perspective that is entirely fresh and new. Can't wait for more.

Now, this is a Western story!

I got dragged into the story in the first chapter. Mixing fact with fiction always makes for good story telling. And that is what you get fro. Eric Knight, a damn good story, one that entertains.

No no don't stop now

Great read. Didn't want it to stop. Real cliffhanger. Ace just may be my new unlikely hero, who doesn't think he is one

A solid four stars as far as the story telling went. It was definitely an enjoyable, fast-paced read but I wasn't prepared for the cliffhanger ending.

I picked this book up after being introduced to Knight through his Wrecker's Gate novel. I am normally a fantasy reader but became a fan of this style of novel after reading Joe Lansdale so decided to give it a whirl.

Ace is your classic antihero that you can't help but root for. Through a bit of luck, fancy footwork and shooting, and some thorough suspension of disbelief by the reader, he finds his way into and out of trouble in sometimes fantastical fashion.

The story moves along very quickly and keeps you engaged throughout. I found the cameos of famous western figures to be a nice touch although it did break my immersion a bit early on until I saw how he blended them into his story. I really liked the portrayal of a certain doctor and found it reminiscent of the movie Tombstone (a personal favorite).

Looking forward to Future installments

Overall, I liked it!
The opening chapter had me scratching my head, but then again, that's what opening chapters are supposed to do, so I was hooked from there.
Good fast-paced story line. Ace, the hero, your hero, my hero now, gets himself in a lot of trouble,
but always finds interesting ways to get himself out, with a lot of smart-ass berating of himself while doing it.
Going on now to the next book in the series, about the one-eyed mule skinner.
My curiosity is peaked.

Not your typical western as it contains a fair amount of spiritualism, which was probably accurate for the time and place. Very interesting read. Ace is half Irish and half Indian and it is the Indian half that was about to get him hung. He is broken out of jail by and English woman and her Scottish partner, who believe he is a distant relative of an Aztec warrior. They want him to help find the Lost Temple of Totec. They meet a lot of perils along the way.

Too long!
I received an ARC copy for my honest review. When I first started reading this I thought it was pretty funny. I had a smile on my face for most of the book. But towards the end it got to be kinda old. I thought it took Ace TOO long to get to the Temple of Totec and then it was kinda anticlimactic. If you think you would be interested in Ace's dry humor and self deprecating personality throughout the whole book then by all means try this book.

Ok For A Break

Book tried but doesn't make it in terms of being a good read. Louis and Parker aren't threatened although there's some humor and some loosely played bits of history. Still I did like the hero and I did read the whole thing and am not sorry I did so.

Wow! Very exciting read

This book set me on a western kick, seriously I can't stop! I haven't read a western since highschool and, after following Ace, I can't understand why I ever stopped!

I was thrilled with the idea of having a supernatural story with a Western setting and to top it off with a (half-) Native American protagonist. The "ingredients" for a good read were there, but the chef did not cook them quite to my liking.
I was a little disappointed with the whole story. Don't get me wrong: It's solid writing and it has lots of action. Probably a little too much and a little too repetitive. I also generally liked the idea of him meeting some famous names during his adventure(s) like Wyatt Earp, Doc Holiday, etc., but again it was just a little too much. It seemed like Ace met pretty much every famous gunslinger in the course of a few weeks.
Sorry, but it is very unlikely I will read another book of the series even though it was promising.

Humorous Adventure

Eric Knight is a good storyteller and a smooth wordsmith. Ace Lone Wolf survives one jam after another through a combination of luck, charm, horse sense for a fun tale.

Good but took awhile to get going

I was sort of confused by this book. I was almost all the way complete before they got to the story. Mostly it was the travel.

Well worth the read

This delightful book is so very much more than the blurb lead me to believe! Just enough supernatural and some surprisingly astute humor.

Not bad

Plenty of action and suspense, not a bad plot. Would also read another book by this author and try other books by him.
