An even more poignant read with both of them no longer here.i thought it would be an q&a exercise with each on answering in turn.but towards the last couple if chapters you get an honest insight to their dreams and fears.they learnt their trade the proper way,as I have said before with other books about entertainers from the past it was not instant stardom but long hard slog playing their trade until perfected.too many nowadays are famous for what?.entertainment now is not a patch on theatre,TV and cinema even radio used to be.as the saying goes nostalgia isn't what it used to be.😊
A good, honest account of their career. Taking in their successes on the variety circuit, their initial failure on early television and their triumphant comeback to become Britain's best loved entertainers and a national institution with their Christmas shows.
Along the way the reader can almost feel the demise of variety theatre as television deprived them of their audiences. Looking at what passes for entertainment on TV in 2022 I can't help but feel we've lost something there.
I have a personal interest in their story and was highly enlightened to read about their early years and the difficulties they had with there first TV show. Pleased they tried again with TV as for me Eric and Ernie have left us with laughter and happiness.
