The title is a bit misleading, it is not just about vehicle aesthetics but rather a brief overview of the entire process of automotive/transportation design from initial design brief through final production. If you are looking for a book about automotive styling, design principles, sketching, form development, etc, this is NOT that book.

This book is a textbook aimed at automotive/product designers probably at the freshman college level. It is not very heavy on text but very heavily illustrated throughout. It covers basic principles and terminology used in the design process. Photos include mostly samples of design process activities including background research, concept sketching, form development, model-making, evaluation, technology, and more.

The author is very experienced in the field and provides a lot of useful insight including a number of interviews with automotive designers and executives.

Overall, this is a very useful and informative book, especially for industrial/product designers. Being a textbook by Routledge it is much more expensive than it should be.
