Husband's review: "This book was fucked up. When I read an easy reader, I expect a *friendly* story. I was not prepared to discuss this with our child."

He says two stars for the book, plus an extra for the horrifying twist.

This is a fun book for beginning readers, with big, bold and colorful illustrations and a simple rhyming narrative. The story doesn't end well for everyone, though, and this tale might upset some younger readers. Our girls thought it was pretty funny, though.

Q (age 6) was very upset that in the end of the book, the cat actually ate the mouse. This is the only time she has given a book 1 star. And she told me most emphatically that I need to put down 1 star for this book because "it was horrible!".
