An advertising agency's holiday office party turns from celebration to horror when the owner of the company is found murdered the morning after their latest riotous shindig. It is up to feisty amateur sleuth Hope Hadley to figure out who the killer is before the holidays are ruined.

Killer Holiday Office Party by Meredith Potts, narrated by Stephanie Quinn is Book 9 in the Hope Hadley Cozy Mystery Series. Listening time is about 1 hour, 20 minutes - perfect length for those seeking out some "me-time," after putting the kids down for an afternoon nap. Although I would recommend reading the first couple books in this series first (to get an understanding of the characters and their backgrounds), it isn't entirely necessary. Each book in the series can stand alone and contains complete start-to-finish mysteries; there are no cliff hangers, and they can be read in any order. I have listened to all of the Hope Hadley audiobooks, and unless something has changed, it's important to note that there is a narrator change after the first few books. While both are pretty good, I enjoy listening to Stephanie Quinn more than the previous ones. Therefore, if you are looking to give just one Hope Hadley book a try, make sure to choose one that she narrates. This, of course, is just personal preference.
After the opening scene, which focuses on the characters' personal lives, the plot quickly advances to the murderous details of Killer Holiday Office Party. Author Meredith Potts wastes no time with the storyline, which I love. Hope Hadley and her police officer brother, Joe, examine the evidence, locate their suspects, and set on their journey to find justice for the vicitm. The one thing I never understand is why the two of them seem to always put themselves in harm's way by confronting the suspects at their homes or wherever they find them. Shouldn't they be taking them in for questioning? Idk...just a thought. :-) Hopefully, nothing crazy happens to this dynamic duo!
Stephanie Quinn's performance is good. She has voices for each character and uses inflection to liven up the dialogue. I like that she gives Hope a more feminine feel, in comparison to the original narrator who portrayed Hope as an obnoxious valley girl, who was a bit "rough-around-the-edges." Everything sounds professionally edited and there are no issues with the recording. It was an easy listen.
Killer Holiday Office Party: Hope Hadley Cozy Mystery Series, Book 9 by Meredith Potts, narrated by Stephanie Quinn gets my rating of 4/5 stars. I recommend it to those who enjoy cozy mysteries or are looking for a short, yet complete, mystery from start to finish.
Thank you for reading my review. I hope it was helpful. Happy listening! :-)
Having read several of this authors cozy mysteries and rated them low, I thought it was only fair to explain why in at least one review. A few points: Any reaction to the murder besides the analytical seems strangely blunted. Too may adjectives; things like the color of front doors can be left to the reader's imagination. Every single solution to the stories I read was discovered through a single clue that proved who dunnit. There seemed to be very little detection involved. Which leads me to my final issue: I could never quite understand why the narrator was helping out with the investigation, except that the actual police were apparently too incompetent to find the bits of evidence she stumbled upon mostly by accident... I can understand wanting a female voice, but I think women can be actual detectives... The only reason these didn't get a 1 was because they were quick and easy reads. Sort of the book equivalent of Hallmark movies.
I chose to listen to this book after receiving a free audio copy from the author. All opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased.
In Killer Holiday Office Party, Hope Hadley finds out that an old friend of hers has been murdered. Her brother, who is a detective, asks for her help since she knew the victim. There are several suspects, but no surprises and the murder is solved quickly.
The narrator does a good job at pace and timing. She also changes her voice to make the different voices obvious.
This is the third book I’ve read/listened to about Hope Hadley. They’re very short, so I’ve started listening to them when I don’t have enough time to finish a full-length novel. If you’re looking for a super quick cozy murder mystery, this is okay. The last book I listened to by Meredith Potts, Murder of a Movie Producer, was the best one I’ve listened to so far because it had a surprise ending.
Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...
1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.
2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.
3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.
4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.
5 stars... I loved this book! It has earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.
Any time I need a quick escape, I love a cozy mystery. Meredith Potts has such a great series with Hope Hadley, each one stands alone and is a fun whodunnit! This one takes place around Christmas and hits home for Hope. When her brother comes to her for help in finding the killer, she is hesitant, but knows she will not rest until the case is solved. Her uncanny intuition and common sense approach always is the best aid in their investigations. But will it help this time when it's so emotional for Hope? A quirky cast of characters and delicious Christmas cookies will lead us to the answer. With Stephanie Quinn's excellent narration, this was a fun, quick listen, making me help solve the case and enjoy another mission with Hope!
Better than the previous book, but I think there needs to be a bit more detail to make the cases believable. Holly seems to solve cases solely by intuition and I can't necessarily find the logic, although since she gets them to confess, it's not like she's putting the wrong people behind bars. I also find her character a bit condescending at times. Her boyfriend and her brother are more likeable, in my opinion. I wonder if the shortcomings in the story are simply that the books are too short. The case was definitely interesting, but I wish characters and motivations and evidence would have all had more development.
I received a free copy of the audiobook from the author and have reviewed it willingly.
It strikes me that there doesn't seem to be a explanation for the stars that are given. So I thought I'd start giving my take on it. 1 horrible no redeeming qualities. 2 there are redeeming qualities. 3 good worth reading, or well written but not my cup of tea. 4 great but there's something off. 5 loved it.
I liked this one better than the last one. I wish we could give half stars I'd have given this 3 and 1/2 stars. The narrator brings the story to life. Reasons I enjoyed this audio book: Great world building, Unpredictable, Easy-to-read. Bookshelves/tags: clean, contemporary, mystery, recorded, series. This Audiobook was given to me for free at my request from the publisher, author or narrator and I provided this unbiased voluntary review.
When an office party catered by her boyfriend goes violently wrong, Hope and her brother are on the case collecting the facts and tracking down the killer. The usual investigation by interview and a few lucky clues follow. The bad guy (or girl) gets theirs and Hope gets to celebrate the holidays after a job well done. Always a fun read, Meredith Potts delivers another fun murder mystery, this one suitable for reading at Christmas ... or whenever you're feeling the need for a little holiday gumshoing.
Newest addition to a nice cozy series about the sister of a homicide detective in a small town with a miniscule police budget. That explains why he is able to take her along on this murder investigation in which she has more inside knowledge of the victim and the suspects. The publisher's blurb is a good start, and it's easy to slide into the series at any time. I love this book and the series! Stephanie Quinn does a remarkable performance as narrator.
This series is entertaining and quick to read. Good descriptions of what suspects and witnesses look like and the storyline moves quickly through the investigation.
Hopes childhood friend is murdered during the holiday season and she is determined to help her brother quickly solve the case.
I received an arc of this book and voluntarily provided a review.
Office Party the day after the owner of company had been murdered. She is a sister to a homicide detective, wanting it solve so they could enjoy the rest of holidays. The characters was good. The narration added to the story, and it is a good series. Given ARC audio for my voluntary review and my honest opinion
Continuing with the Hope Hadley series, I listened to this story and, once again, enjoyed the journey. Hope tried to solve this mystery before it ruined the holidays. Would she do it in time? Stephanie Quinn's narration kept me listening and enjoying the story more.
I received a copy of this audiobook as a gift, and this is my unsolicited review.
Killer Holiday Office Party was a great read by Meredith Potts. An advertising agency's holiday party turns bad when the owner of the company is murdered. Hope Hadley and her brother must find out who the killer is. I really enjoyed reading this book and can't wait to read more by Meredith Potts.
Hope and her brother join forces to find out who murdered a old friend of theirs right after a Holiday party,Hope has a list of suspects just have to narrow down and find out why they would do the crime .
This was a very quick book from start to finish it kept me interested next thing I know murder solved To bad real life murders can't be solved as quickly
Hope's friend dies and she is on the investigation team with her brother to find out who did it and made it look like a burglary gone wrong. Can she do it before Christmas?
The storyline is well plotted and the characters are well developed. Ms. Potts’ witty writing style flows smoothly and the book is an easy read. The characters are well developed and the mystery well plotted.NOTE: That was NOT MY review{s}; however, it does show exactly Meredith Potts' writing style...repetitious and unbelievable and not just a little bit preachy. Even as low a bar as I set for cozy mysteries, she limboed right under it.
Most of the stories are on ku, either as standalone or in sets. If you don't see one on ku look at the sets listed and it should be there. Actually, if you've read one story you've read them all basically.
Hope Hadley Eight Book Cozy Mystery Set Fishing For Murder, Murder Of A Yoga Instructor, Drowning In Deceit, A Not So Merry Christmas Murder, Killer Injustice, Murder Of A Restaurant Critic, Murder Of A Movie Producer, and The Killer Holiday Office Party. I read them, a little too hmmm murder she wrote wrapping it all up in half hour or so and bit confusing although that could be because no good at names and it was 8 books of basically the same story so lot of names and suppose the buy price of 99 cents would have been okay if hadn't had the ku but seemed a bit forced wrap up/story lines.
Merry Christmas Cozy Mystery Gift Set 3 pack A Not So Merry Christmas Murder Killer Holiday Office Party The Last Frontier Of Murder Tried to get in to the stories, but seemed rather slow, not even sure what was going on in the 3rd short story, seemed not quite sure itself, each story, but kindle unlimited so that's something.
Fame is a Killer is also Fame is Murder
The only reason didn't give it a 1 star is because am reserving that one for 'romance' that so far as been badly written excuse for soft porn.
Her books are one of the few times don't get a twinge over doing copy paste for single/set books on here at amazon and on goodreads.Goodreads needs a selection for Wished hadn't have read this.
Kindle Unlimited, so you are not stuck with the book{s} permanently.
The dates are mostly wrong for goodreads; I forgot for a while or didn't have goodreads at the time.
My twenty-second short read/listen from author Meredith Potts, Well-written & enjoyable. another cute, clean cozy mystery, the ninth in this series. I was given an Audible copy of this book & am voluntarily reviewing it. I was impressed and enjoyed the vocal variety & inflections of narrator Stephanie Quinn. I look forward to reading more in this series & from this author. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
