Two Between-the-Numbers novels from #1 bestselling author Janet Evanovich--twice the Plum!
PLUM Spooky (#14,5) Bounty hunter Stephanie Plum usually finds a way to get her man. But this time, she's set to join forces with Diesel--whose special skills include tracking men and pleasing women--to get the job done. Together, they will hunt down the notorious Martin Munch through the Pine Barrens and come face to face with the legendary Jersey Devil, prowling above the treetops in the dark of night, and find a way to survive cranberry bogs, sand in their underwear, too many monkeys to count. . .and, of course, each other.
VISIONS OF SUGAR PLUMS (#8,5) 'Tis the season, sure, but nothing's looking merry for Fugitive Apprehension Agent Stephanie Plum. She hasn't gotten a tree, nor any presents. There's not a twinkle light anywhere to be seen in her apartment. . .and there's a stranger in her kitchen. Which isn't so unusual--Stephanie is always greeting felons, creeps, and lunatics at her door. But this guy is mysterious, and HOT. His name is Diesel. What is he doing here? Can he help Stephanie find a little old toy maker who has skipped out on his bail right before the holidays? What about a bunch of nasty elves? Get out your plastic reindeer, strap on your jingle bells, and get ready to celebrate the holidays--Jersey style.
"Tart and hilarious...will leave fans hungry for the next juicy Plum-a-Thon."--Publishers Weekly
Janet Evanovich is the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Stephanie Plum series, the Lizzy and Diesel series, twelve romance novels, the Alexandra Barnaby novels and Trouble Maker graphic novel, and How I Write: Secrets of a Bestselling Author, as well as the Fox and O'Hare series with co-author Lee Goldberg.
Book that brings together #1 and #4 of the "between the numbers" novellas in the Stephanie Plum series.
Like the other reviews of these "between the numbers" novellas - this will be similar. It's good and funny and action packed and contains all of the usuals (Diesel, Lula, Morelli, Ranger etc.) but nowhere near as good as the main Plum series of novels. They are just too short to fully flesh out a plot and characters.
If you have read all the main Stephanie Plum novels then this is worth reading, otherwise I would stick to the main series first (it's better).
I feel like the second story should have been first so I had a better understanding of who Diesel is. In saying that, I still couldn’t get interested in the story or the characters. I also acknowledge that these stories are part of a bigger series which I have not heard of before.
I immediately fell for Stephanie Plum ... how can you not! She is a train wreck with plenty of mascara, and a fantastic family! Can't wait for more adventures!
BTW ... I am TOTALLY Team Ranger! Also Lula is AMAZING ... we all need a Lula in our lives! I have decided I want to be adopted by the Plums so I can have a Grama Mazur!
I have read the first 22 as well as the In-Between the Plums stories and I am so ready for the next several!
Plum spooky and Visions of Sugar plums both feature Stefanie with the mysterious Diesel, not alien or vampire but looking out for her in her bounty hunter/trouble maker job. Entertaining!
10/11/22 - Finished the Plum Spooky novella. I'd rate it four stars. It was the usual cute Stephanie Plum story with some paranormal things happening. Perfect for Halloween.
Fun easy reads. There are two, and the second one introduces a main character that’s in the first. The cover lists the second one first, so it makes no sense. Read the second one first.
I've always enjoyed the Stephanie Plum series the books are well written easy to fall in love with the characters, Twice the Plum is actually 2 books in one . & It's Holiday themed . Grab a warm cup of tea and enjoy
Twice the Plum by Janet Evanovich contains two between-the-numbers Stephanie Plum stories. Visions of Sugar Plums is, as you can guess by the title, a Christmas story. It is also, as far as I can tell, the first mention of Diesel as a character, which is interesting since he seems to be more of a fantasy creature than realistic--which I think of as the series being. He pops into Stephanie's life and together they search for a little old toy maker, Sandy Claws, who of course has skipped his bail, and a bunch of eleves--or small people. The story is really hoaky--about my least favorite Plum story which is why the duo only rated a 3. The other story, Plum Spooky, is also a Diesel story (as were Plum Lovin' and Plum Lucky, another duo, in which both stories were excellent. In fact, having read both before this duo, I didn't even realize Diesel was "unmentionable," Evanovich's term for magical. I did think he was like Ranger, who is subtly extraordinary, but not non-human. Both Ranger and Diesel are also bounty hunters-- but of their own kind.). But, unlike the sticky Visions of Sugar Plums, it is funny, funny, funny--as were both Plum Lovin' and Plum Lucky. However, Diesel is definitely "unmentionable" in this story as not in the other two. In this book the villain is also "unmentionable" unlike, I think, in any of the other stories. He is using Martin Munch, the man Stephanie is after, to develop a machine to control the weather--obviously not your common criminal. Munch is however human, just a socially deviant genius. Another of his experiments is attempting to control brain power, for which he has imprisoned an animal rights supporter to gain control of her rescued monkeys. While Stephanie captures her Munch, Diesel only stops this particular episode of Wulf's career. Both go on to future hunting. Perhaps one (Diesel) or both will pop back into Stephanie's life in some future novel. I found this story more attractive than the other, but it too is a bit too "magical" for me, so I would give it a 4, not quite a 5.
