Very well written police procedural. Characters are well described in a common sense manner, lots of suspense & action. The story flows well ( not to sound cliche) but I found myself readily returning to read more. This does not often happen. I see a lot of books that are 5 stars rated, only to find that the " 1" star ratings tell the REAL story of that particular book. (Falsified in some way ? ) However, Moral Misconduct truly IS a 5 star book !!
However, 2 good reasons I deleted "2 " stars . 1) Foul language. Not a LOT, but I really see NO need for it at all. Not all: police, military, or construction workers use such language.
2) the "N" word used at least once, perhaps twice. I am a White guy, but I still se NO need or justification of it :(. Sadly, even though I enjoyed the book TREMENDOUSLY..... a very good story...I will have to PASS on this author. Sad, as I know many writers have TALENT and nearly BEG for reviews...but I feel this authors' other books may contain similar language. Perhaps, in all fairness....I may try a few "sample" pages of David's other books. He really IS that good. This really COULD/SHOULD be a " 5" star book.
I THINK I received a FREE copy or paid a low price. I can't recall. However, THIS book belongs up there with the other TOP NAME writers you HEAR about, but balk at paying TOP $$ for a book. I really hope that David can "improve" his verbiage !! If a FEW curse words won"t offend you...I would highly suggest giving this book a try. Sadly, I was, and refuse to spend my good $$ on such. I hope David reads this and works on his language.
I read DeLee’s Fatal Destiny, book 1 in his Grace deHaviland series and thought it was just okay. So I hesitated some before buying this one.
Amazon’s listing of this book would lead you to believe it’s a novel. It isn’t. It’s really 3 novellas. Three darn good novellas. And an interesting break from a full-length novel.
In Cop Shot, an IA officer and homicide detective investigate the murder of a bad cop, but both have reason to want him dead.
The same officers are back in Re-Homed, one demoted to School Safety Officer for violating police policy, to investigate child abuse that turns into a shady off-the-books child adoption scam.
And in Policing For Profit, the duo investigate corrupt cops abusing their power for personal gain.
I sense that these 3 stories were published separately at one point because the second gives a detailed backstory from the first and the third gives backstory from both the first and second. They could have been trimmed back a little to tighten the stories.
These three stories are engaging. The two main characters are sharply drawn, and in spite of their flaws, easy to root for. The first story, the shortest of the three, goes by quickly—although it's a little too quick. The two main police officers working the case find out dark things in each other's pasts that could have been drawn out to great satisfaction; the resolution happened too fast for my taste (though that's better than droning on and on). Still, the first story was good enough to keep me reading, and the last story, novella-length and the longest of the three, was also the best. The story had room to layer complexities, which was one of the reasons it was much more satisfying than the shorter pieces. DeLee has great command of the language and of his characters, especially Flynn and Levy, and the longer work really showcases how he can put a plot together effectively. I look forward to reading the next Flynn and Levy book, which is a full novel.
David Delee knows New York, and he knows the inside story of how justice works, and now, so do I! The question is, did I want to. The answer is, the way this author tells it, yes.
Frank Flynn and Christine Levy are unlikely partners who suspect each other of murdering a cop. They both have very good reasons for these suspicions, and the reader spends some time wondering who to believe. Flynn and Levy are not just names; their personal lives make them real – two people you come to care about.
The three stories comprising Moral Misconduct are full of twists, drama, and violent action that grip the reader to the end.
In have discovered a new favorite author: David DeLee. Loved this bok, read on one sitting the three stories. Mr. DeLee has a way with a plot that keeps one turning the page. You can follow the action , the characters and get an in depth feeling of both. Looking forward to reading more of his books.
There are actually 3 cases explained in this book which 2 detectives worked together. Both detectives have a past they'd like to forget. The 3 cases are told from start to finish. This was an interesting, enjoyable, fast read.
Very entertaining and interesting storyline about two cops and the crimes they solve. Murder is their primary case load but multiple other crimes go hand in hand with the murders and these cops are on top of all of them.
This collection of police stories was pretty entertaining. Loved the two main characters. Loved the interaction between them. Would definitely read more from this author with these two main characters.
Good detective murder story. Not typical. A lot of surprises but not contrived. It's really four stories. I was glad there wasn't a romance story to it.
It was mostly a good book, but it skipped around a little too much. The stories would end a little too quickly and the next ones started without any preview as to when, what happened between the sites, etc.
This is a satisfying and quick read where the good guys come out ahead and the bad guys get at least some of what they deserve. I'll be looking for more.
This book is actually a collection of three short stories, bringing together a veteran detective named Frank Flynn and a multi-talented detective named Christine Levy. They first meet following the shooting of a police officer when Levy of Internal Affairs is brought in to the investigation because of another cop involved having numerous complaints about him. Together Flynn and Levy get to the bottom of the case while developing mutual respect for each other.
The second story begins with Levy no longer with IA because of something about her background that came to light in the first story. She is now a detective working an assignment as a school liaison officer when she observes something very wrong. Her instincts click in and she begins to investigate the situation. She discovers a murder has taken place and Flynn is the detective assigned to the case. The case becomes much more complicated the more they investigate. They work extremely well together again and their relationship is strengthened further.
The third story is a difficult one for both Levy and Flynn because their instincts diverge on the nature of the crime. As they dig deeper and deeper into the situation involving another dead police officer, they find themselves highly criticized by other officers for not finding the killers quickly. Their investigation brings them notoriety and are approached by someone who brings another dimension to the investigation. Levy and Flynn work excellently together to track down all the culprits and bring them to justice. Overall the book is intriguing and rewarding to read.
They were patrol partners, one ready to retire and the newbie. Murder under the bridge, and partner had called in sick that day. The motive of what the older cop was doing, and also an affair with the newbie’s wife, make him a prime suspect. A cop killing a cop, the worst case to get. Good tense plot of Frank and Levy teaming up to solve, this case and a few others that are connected. Good series, plot flowed, and one likes the characters, and you wonder how they will solve their differences to work together.
