Gigi256 writes so well and she takes the original book and picks up minute details then builds a whole backstory that makes sense and is feasible. It's as if Richelle Mead added chapters in the book of what Dimitri is doing.
In Frostbite we meet Tasha Ozera, Christian's aunt. Dimitri and Tasha have been friends for a long time and she offers him the house with the white picket fence with kids playing in the yard. Something he can't have with Rose since they can't be together and be guardians for Lissa. Also he's having guilt for having feelings for his student.
In Dimitri's POV he considers the offer, he spends time with Tasha, he even goes to her room and almost has sex with her but is stopped by a phone call. Then later on he sees her and kisses her passionately. Rose has been doing the same thing with Mason. Both of them realize they can't be with someone else when their hearts belong to each other.
I think Gigi256's story brings a whole new depth to Dimitri and to the whole VA story world. I can't image not reading her stories.
When Gigi256 finishes Last Sacrifice later this Spring I plan on going back and reading through each of the Vampire Academy books alongside Gigi256's Dimitri's POV stories.
I think she is an excellent writer and you will want to read her stories each time you reread the Vampire Academy book series.
Let me start off by saying I liked it. I really did. As in the first VA fanfic, it was illuminating reading and comprehending Dimitri's emotional depth.
However, I found the excessive descriptions of Dimitri feeling unworthy of Rose's love tiring and redundant - we get it, a man literally seen as godlike by other guardians and novices is pale in comparison to the all-mighty unfearful gorgeous Rose. If you ask me this way of uncovering Dimitri's mind is forced as it doesn't conjoin with the image I believe the original author presented him. I thought of him as a well-calculated and self-confident young man who fell in love with his student and is trying really hard to fight those emotions building inside of him. Yes, it is because he is currently in a position of authority over Rose, and in the future, they'll be Vacillisa's guardians.
But Him feeling inferior compared to her?
Nah. He has gained some life experience since he graduated from St.Basil's and he definitely knows his worth and reputation. On top of that, his alleged insecurity being the motive for many of his actions throughout the book is childlike and unrealistic. Like a grown guardian (or any adult for the matter) would think about his self-worth first when making a choice, and not like on rational reasoning.
Adrian was pictured way less compelling than in the book. In the Original book, he came of as a seducing immature womanizer. In the fanfic, while still being the womanizer he is, he also came across as devious and irritating (but the latter is acceptable because I can understand why Dimitri would percieve him as such).
In the final chapters of the fanfic, I did not like that Dimitri didn't think about Rose decapitating two strigoi by herself at all because he was so focused on her mental-being.
COME ON. A RESPECTED TALENTED GUARDIAN WHO'S SUPPOSED TO WORK WITH ROSE IN THE FUTURE DOESN'T EVEN THINK ABOUT HOW SHE PULLED IT OFF IS JUST UNBELIEVABLE. AND STUPID. You can care for somebody but still let other thoughts cross your mind. Especially when they're work related and your work is basically your life.
Despite all those, I liked the fanfic becuase I liked the book and it gave me a good idea of what the whole experience have been like for Dimitri. As I mentioned in the review of the first fanfic, it spoiled the fact that human alchemists are a thing, but I guess it is not such a big deal.
It’s great getting to see things from Dimitris perspective, Seeing what he was thinking a feeling, and what happened at different points that aren’t talked about in the books.
I found it unsettling that Alberta is fully aware of Rose and Dimitri's feelings for each other and seems to condone them. Additionally, the portrayal of Adrian and Tasha as villains didn't sit well with me. However, I appreciated the opportunity to glimpse behind the scenes and witness the events from when the guardians realized the students were missing to their eventual discovery.
Soooo, I like where the author is going with Dimitri’s POV. He’s complicated, jealous, etc. However Adrian and Tasha’s roles in this story are almost evil. Especially Adrian. And I personally can’t stand that!!

-Bueno...

I'm going to be honest, I didn't always love Dimitri but he sort of grew on me through the entirety of Vampire Academy. I feel like after getting more of a look at his perspective and understanding his feelings, I started to love him more. He's a unique character who clearly goes through a lot and anyone who might be on the fence about him, they should give this a read, it might change your mind!
4/17/24 Highly enjoyed most of it. Hated a lot of Adrian’s characterization. Some of Tasha’s also felt off at points, but she’s around so little in Frostbite that I can let it slide.
In 2014, I was obsessed with Vampire Academy and read all the fanfiction and existing stories about the characters. So, I give it a 5-star rating right away. And I definitely plan to reread in 2024 💖
