The Diner of the Dead #10

Eerie Irish Waffle

Rate this book
It's Saint Patrick's Day in Haunted Falls and diner owner Sonja Reed has whipped up another winner of a waffle for the holiday. Unfortunately, it appears that the luck of the Irish has skipped over Sonja this year as she and boyfriend Sheriff Frank Thompson are faced with solving yet another harrowing paranormal murder case. A body found in the woods raises suspicion about possible mob related activity in the small mountain community. As if that thought wasn’t harrowing enough, the strange leprechaun statue that Sonja borrowed from a family friend as a decoration for the diner seems to have a mind of its own, and it just might have a thirst for blood…Sonja's blood.

Sonja and Alison are busy creating new waffles for St. Patty's Day at The Waffle Diner and Eatery in Haunted Falls. Decorating the diner for holidays is high on Sonja's list. She has borrowed a life-size
statue of a Leprechaun from her mother's friend, Panelope, who owns The Lucky Leprechaun shop. While Sonja is out doing errands, she finds the diner's new milkman shot to death in his milk truck. The sheriff is on speed dial, since he is also her boyfriend. Frank tells her to stay out of investigation since the man is rumored to have ties to the mob. When Sonja helps the man's drunken widow safely home she picks up clues tied to the murder. More investigation leads her to a hit man who was chasing the couple just before he was killed. Sonja begins to wonder if the Leprechaun statue is now possessed by the spirit of the hit man when it appears to come to life and frightens her and Alison. When the statue disappears, Sonja gets Frank to go with her to a discovery she had made in the woods while chasing a small person who looked like the Leprechaun statue. These characters continue to provide entertaining adventures while they work thru some devilish murder plots. The Diner Of The Dead Series provides well plotted murders with the addition of lively paranormal activity that will keep you turning the pages of this book, and leave you thirsting for the next book in the series to come out!

Haunted FalIs is preparing to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. Sonja has concocted two special waffles in honor of the day. The morning begins a bit crazed when she runs out of a special ingredient and the milk never gets delivered to the restaurant. After retrieving the ingredient for her waffle Sonja takes a back road to return to the diner. It is then that she sees something that will potential ruin her day.

The latest edition of The Diner of the Dead introduces us to some new characters. We are given just enough information about them to make us want to know more. There is very little of Sonja and Frank’s relationship, however he does make his feelings for her known. The story is well-developed and paced. I was surprised when our criminal was revealed. I can’t wait to read the next volume in this series and see if some of my questions are finally answered.

Oh my gosh, eerie is an understatement! I was seriously creeped out for most of the book. The ending was surprising, and I really can't wait for the next one.

The Waffle Diner is the happening place in Haunted Falls. Sonja the owner with her friend Ally her business partner whip up the best waffles around. But Sonja has a secret that not Ally or her sheriff boyfriend, Frank know, she can see and talk to ghosts and everything paranormal. Strange things keep happening in Haunted Falls and Sonja along with her father seem to always find them.
In this book St. Patrick's Day is fast approaching and the diner is in full green mode. Sonja even has a leprechaun statue in the diner from Pan, a family friend who owns The Lucky Leprechaun. Little does anyone know that murder is not far behind! Much to the dismay of Frank, Sonja ends up knee deep in the mystery sending all kinds of tingling in her skin. Paranormal!
Love the characters in this series as well as the new ones that appear. All of them are well thought out and written. Everything about this series falls into place. Looking forward to book eleven.
I recieved an advanced reader copy for my honest opinion.

Kindle Unlimited, takes forever to get the actual story started, and not even because setting up needed backdrop information, just sluggishly slow and boring, full of one dimensional cardboard characters and plots. All the detail seems to be saved for the parts that matter the least to the actual story. Unbelievable situations and gotten in to by cardboard characters with equally unbelievable although you saw it coming a mile away 'solutions' along with ridiculously fake 'relationship' tensions.

By the way, when you have a baby as a character, at least decide and stick to whether it's a boy or a girl, and not change it in various sentences from her to him. Also useless made up drama, it adds nothing to a story, except my distaste for it. Blah blah blah, akin to the sound of the adults in a snoopy video. By the way again, few other points; plastic does not melt 'on contact' when thrown even in to a fireplace, the person in the photo is not the person in the photo uh huh, cheap cameraman is also besides the point unless meant cheap camera and it's not much of a point, Why would a place in a book series titled diner of the dead be decorated in 50's style, and gouda waffles uh yuck and I like smoked gouda but it would not go good in a waffle and even worse in crepe type and would be pretty bland and even more bland as a crumbled topping as unlike the description claims it is neither savory nor sweet but smoky, along with more blah blah useless filler crap, and someone can't make a crepe in a regular waffle iron anyway one uses a crepe maker which the writer would know if she had done any actual research for a restaurant which supposedly serves waffles and seemingly some type of crepes. Somebody waiting tables would not be messing with garbage even if bagged up, and on and on, though 10 mind yet painfully numbing useless 'books' all the cookie cutter ridiculously pathetically the same.

Would like to extend my congratulation to the 'writer' of this mess, as before now have never given a 1 to well whatever genre this mess is supposed to have been, saving the 1's for very bad sci-fi romances that are bad excuses for printing crap. For a 'writer' who supposedly has not only a degree but a BA in English, so not able to tell that nor the supposed creative writing credentials claimed, and which obviously did not include anything on how to research anything at all.How can someone who has been away from the town for years still be involved or linked in just about every possible way to every possible case, and how many cases could there even reasonably be in that small of a town.

Listing a Never Read this Crap list of the 10 'books' in The Diner of the Dead Series

The luck if the Irish finds Haunted Falls.

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of this book and encouraged to leave an honest review. Sonja is back to create more holiday magic with her special waffle recipes. Running out of her main ingredient sets the events in motion for her to find yet another body. If you have been following Sonja and this series, you won't be disappointed. The creepiness is rampant and it seems as if Sonja is finding more supernaturally talented friends to pool her resources with in future books. The characters are great but this book seemed to not have so much of the regular characters and it worked well. The story is well written and very enjoyable. As usual the story is neatly finished but you are still looking forward to what is to come.

Waffles and Murder are Always on the Diners Menu

Every one knows if you want good waffles Sonjas diner has them, and there are always new flavors to try. Unfortunately, besides having a knack for waffle making, she also has a knack for finding dead bodies. Having the sheriff as a boyfriend is handy since she like to investigate what she finds which more than once has gotten into trouble.

I have read this entire series and love it. Sonja is learning more about her gift bland discovering other people in her community also have gifts that are different than hers but there is acceptance with those who understand.

The further you go in the series you can see the all the characters grow and develop more complex personalities. These books can be read as stand alone but I recommend getting a few at least!

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

I did really enjoy meeting new people as well as exploring who else in the town is attached to the occult side of town. We get to meet Panelope and her niece, Panelope played quite a large role in this books, and we really get a feel for the character. We don't really find out much about the victim until the end of the book.

This mystery was mainly focused on the leprechaun and less on the murder. Though Sonja believes that they are linked in some way, I find it very annoying. I know that this book series is more of an urban fantasy, however, I would love a little more mystery.

Eerie and Creepy Leprechauns

When Sonja borrows a Leprechaun statue all sorts of mysterious and scary things start to happen. Will she be able to continue to keep her secret from her best friend and her boyfriend? Extremely spooky and I loved it.

Leprechauns they say?

This book has them. Those Little terrors. It was great. Frank and Sonya have their hands full of them on this one. I loved the waffle idea and the dessert waffle also. Great plot. New characters like Cass and Penelope. Cannot wait for the next Haunted Murder.

Holy Leprechauns!

I received an Advance Reader's Copy of this book and I'm voluntarily giving an honest review. It's St Patrick's Day in Haunted Falls and Sonja has whipped up some new waffles. She's also discovered the body of her milkman. Can she solve the mystery and did the leprechaun do it? There are a couple of new characters that I think are going to add a lot to upcoming books. There's waffles, leprechauns, missing money and the mob! All the makings of a good book.
