Surviving the Chase

Rate this book
In this page-turning follow-up to Dangerous Consequences, a serial killer wants revenge—but two surprising people stand in her way . . .

Abandoned by her mother as a kid, Payton Jones wants no reminders of her past and no commitments. She’s beautiful, educated, rich, and gets what she wants—even if her favorite friends-with-benefits, Tony Barnes, is a hot complication. But her life of shopping, spa appointments, and mindless sex is interrupted when the most wanted woman in the Bay area starts hunting for Payton’s estranged mother. Curiosity leads Payton into unfamiliar—and risky—territory.

Psychologist and local radio show host Donathan “Sex Doctor” James almost became a victim of the killer, who bared her every twisted thought to him. He knows she won’t stop until she commits the most personal murder of all. But when his wife’s best friend, Payton Jones—who Donathan isn’t quite sure he can trust—uncovers a shattering connection to the killer, they team up to find her.

Now, surviving the chase puts Donathan’s marriage, career, and life on the line while Payton comes face to face with everything she’s been running from for years . . .

Surviving the Chase by Lisa Renee Johnson is the explosive sequel to her fast-paced debut novel, Dangerous Consequences.

Single social playgirl, Payton Marie Jones, and married clinical psychologist and radio personality, Donathan James, are unlikely partners but a serial killer causes them to join forces in an attempt to prevent more deaths. They don’t expect the resulting surprising consequences.

Surviving the Chase is well-written suspense that holds the reader’s attention with an exciting plot. Though this is a sequel, Ms. Johnson provides adequate character and storyline background to make this a standalone novel. The characters are vivid and well-rounded. This is a cautionary tale of sex, lies, betrayal and revenge. The ending isn’t a cliffhanger and is satisfying but does leave enough unanswered questions to allow future editions. I give this novel 4 out of 5 stars and recommend it to all readers of multicultural and general fiction.

My thanks to Kensington Books and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book. However the opinions expressed in this review are 100% mine and mine alone.

A continuation of Dangerous consequences, and It's just as much as a roller coaster as the first one. Although this book answered some questions from book 1, this book left me with several questions which probably mean there will be another book. The book also tackles some current issues that will leave you shocked. A very good read.

I received a copy of this book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

Surviving the Chase is an action-packed sequel to Dangerous Consequences. I had not read Dangerous Consequences, so I picked it up and read it in order to have a better sense of the characters and prior story line. Boy, am I glad that I did. I would have missed so much if I had not read the previous book, but enough about it. Let’s talk about this sequel. That old adage of what goes around, comes around definitely holds true in the case of the characters. This book is a real roller coaster ride of twists and turns with unlikely alliances forming between some people that you would never expect. I certainly hope that there is a Part 3 coming along soon. I cannot wait to find out what else these characters may get into. Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher for the opportunity to review this book.

After reading dangerous consequences, I was hoping that the sequel would continue to focus primarily on Sydney and Donathan. Instead, their story made up only about 40% of the book, with the spotlight shifting to other side characters. Honestly, I didn’t like that the main characters had to share their space with less important storylines. In Surviving the Chase, Payton and Austyn became the central focus, which felt like a big departure from what Dangerous Consequences set up. And then there’s the ending of the second book—it left so many unanswered questions. If you enjoy drama and constant cliffhangers, you’ll probably enjoy both books. But for me, the unresolved storylines and lack of closure were frustrating.
That said, the writing itself was solid—creative, dramatic, and engaging. For that, I’ll give it three stars.

This a a continuation of our favorite doctors from Dangerous consequences. This was an overall good book. Austyn is still on the run and causing a ruckus. Donathan and Sydney are still having problems in their relationship and it doesn't seem to be easing up. At times in this book I wanted them to just seperate. It was a good read and it the story ended in a shocker for me. It is worth the read.

My, My, My,

The long-awaited sequel to Dangerous Consequences, Surviving the Chase was well worth the wait. Starting where Dangerous Consequencesended Surviving the Chase answered many questions while in the end left more questions leading one to ask will there be a third book?

Surviving the Chase encompassed everything murder, affairs, sex trafficking, secrets, told in a way as the reader I could feel the pain. It was me on those pages.
As my students use to say "awesome sauce" Ms. Lisa. A must-read.

I received this book from Netgalley for an honest review.

These books have the most unlikable characters I have ever read, and I am completely engrossed in their stories. I thought the first book was twisted, but this one is even darker. I don't know about anyone else but I'm rooting for a Sydney and Miles HEA. There is a lot going on in this one. There is more suspense and tension. And that ending! Definitely a guilty pleasure read.

Lots of characters to keep track of. It looks to be a second book in a series, but I did not realize that when I started it. The way it ends, there maybe another one after this.

It was hard getting into this at first becuase the backstory came in pieces, but once I understood it made a lot more sense and was easier to read and harder to put down.

When I first started this book I didn't realize that it was the second book so it took a little while to get things straight. This story has it all: suspense, drama, lust and mystery! It was an easy read and it was enjoyable. I reccomend reading the first book before you start this one, but otherwise it was good.

OMG! The entire time I'm reading this book, I kept thinking this is amazing! I love the story, I love the character development and I love the plot! The narrator is awesome as well in differentiating between the various characters. I can't wait for the sequel.

Lisa you're really showing your craft's development.

After stumbling on to the first one and that cliff hanger ending... I was eager to read this one... It wasn't as good as the first. Lost of unneeded drama and the climax was lackluster. Not a proud read.

The writing made it hard to follow the plot and characters. The book also did not wrap up the story and ended with needing the next book to complete the story.

Fast Paced

I read through this short smut story as quick as I could to just get through. Crime chase and descriptive sex encounters. Not my thing.

Good read but still so much left unsaid and unanswered. I thought this would wrap up everything from the first book but left underwhelmed with the ending.

Surviving The Chase is the follow up to Dangerous Consequences , we catch back up with Payton Jones and Donathan " The Sex Doctor" Who almost became a victim of the killer and it seems the only person who may be able to help him is his wife's best friend Payton who has a connection to the killer that she Is unaware of.

I enjoyed this book but I still have some questions and not sure if they will be answered.
