Dana K. White started ASlobComesClean.com in 2009 in a desperate attempt to get her home under control. She had no idea where her deslobification journey would lead, both in her home and in her spiritual life. This is the story of how God worked in her life to show her that He was more concerned with her heart than her home.
I was blown away by this book!!! I read it in two days, I couldn't put it down. I am a huge Dana K White fan, and had not heard of this book before. I came across it when I pre-ordered her recent book, Organizing for the Rest of Us.
This book was in a way a description of a small portion of her life, an auto-biography of sorts of how she got started in the declutter and organizing blog world. As a very curious person I really enjoyed the details of her life, where she came from, how she got to where she is now, and how cleaning and organizing became her life's ministry.
But I have to say, the very best parts of the book, and the most convicting to me were her open sharing of her relationship with God. It spoke to my heart in a way I really needed to hear...God wants all of us. In fact, He wants the worst of us, not just the pretty parts, the parts we think are deserving. He gave us all our parts, and to Him, our damaged, our sad, our parts where we feel we are not enough are actually to Him our most beautiful parts.
God used Dana's struggles to provide hope to millions. She reminds me the same can be said for me...hiding parts of myself which I may be ashamed about also hides help from those who may really need it.
This is a fantastic quick read not only for Dana K White and the Slob Comes Clean blog and YouTube fans, but also for those who struggle to truly accept themselves as they are. It serves as a much needed reminder that all parts of us are beautiful and loved by God.
I totally related to the author’s story and her struggle with imperfection and was so encouraged by how God has worked in her life and heart, using her weaknesses to impact others the most. An inspiring and encouraging read (or audiobook listen!).
This book spoke to me in ways I wasn't expecting it too. Easy 1 day read. I enjoyed the authors honesty & authenticity and the spiritual teachings will stick with me for quite awhile. I look forward to reading more of her books.
I love listening to audio books written by Dana. I stumbled upon the book in the Homemakers Bundle this year and I am so happy I did. I love Dana’s testimony and her voice is so calming.
It was ok. I enjoy the author's other books and was interested in hearing her faith journey since she doesn't speak about it much in her other books or on her podcast. Quick read.
Quick read about purpose and authenticity, developing boundaries and trying not to let yourself get overwhelmed, how life tends to deviate from your “plan”, and Dana’s personal relationship with God/Jesus/the Bible and her path to blogging. It’s probably the most religious book I’ll ever finish.
I’ve been following the author’s clutter blog and podcast for ages, and the concept of just immediately taking things to live in the place where you would look for them (from another book she wrote) is probably the most helpful thing that has stuck with me especially after moving into my own home.
