Folks wonder what sort of woman I am, that I would sell myself to The Beast . Cursed with a hideous form, the mysterious La Bête never leaves his enchanted castle. No his riches are as endless as the steady stream of women willing to serve him. Those women say his appetites are as monstrous as his visage. I may be young and innocent, but I am also practical. Five chests of gold for one year of servitude seems fair. Especially when my family is desperate for money. When La Bête needs a new woman and offers for one of my father’s daughters, my family accepts his terms. I am the willing sacrifice. But La Bête is unlike any man I’ve ever known. And I am about to learn what it means to love a beast. Fausta Borja’s Beauty and the Beast is a steamy gothic romance novel based on the classic fairy tale.
DNF @ 59% Sigh...can no one write truly delicious Fairytale Come Alive Kindle Smut...Still searching for ‘Beauty & The Beast’ (as well as ‘Phantom of the Opera’) done the good kind of grown up Alpha bad boy dirty. I don’t require hearts and roses, but taking the poor virgin girl across the back of a chair on her first rodeo and being all EMO during his Non-Beast hours is not gonna cut it.
The story line had so much potential and the actual story itself held my attention. The problem? The premise that the beast has to rut with a woman constantly at night (when he comes out) so he can take on his human form at day. Yeah...I was over that as soon as it began. Almost stopped reading and completing the story but I wanted to understand the actual storyline that had a faint heartbeat in the beginning. The secret regarding Beauty and the secret regarding the Beast. That part was intriguing and again had a lot of potential. Another irksome pet peeve was receiving no closure. You hang on to the end for the curse to break but it NEVER happens. WTH? What happens to the castle and creatures there? Why is the beast still a beast. Why does Julian remain? Ugh! Its like Fausta just gave up as we finally get somewhere with the enchantment. The book abruptly ends. Loose ends are hanging everywhere. They are so heavy they could strangle you. For those reasons I wanted to give this a 2 but due to a good actual story line other than the ridiculous "rut"...it had potential. Thats what gave it a 3. A fair average...2.5.
Astrid's Description: If you have seen the French 2014 Beauty and the Beast or if you have read the original version, then you just need to add sex and that is basically this story.
In my opinion, it is actually very well written. Fausta adds her own bits and pieces to make it a story of its own. For example, the beast is known throughout the land. He makes deals with women to stay with him and have sex when he needs it. There is a reason for that need, and I won't spoil it by telling you what it is, but Fausta does make it a legit reason. Even though it meant to be a steamy romance, it is not solely focused on sex.
The only thing that really bothered me was that the author never tells you Beauty's real name. I did find it a little distracting that she wouldn't tell anyone.
As for grammar and spelling, I did not notice many problems in that area.
It was okay. I do enjoy a beauty and the beast story reinvented so I’m glad I read it. The main character’s extremely pragmatic approach to everything is understandable and I can appreciate it at times but it did make it a little difficult to connect to her or really like her. Overall, decent read if you like this kind of story.
I took a gamble on this book. I'd never heard of Fausta Borja, but her spin on the classic fairy tale was a bit too intriguing to pass up. I enjoyed it. Definitely for adults, and a bit bizarre, but a story that is true to its roots. Real beauty is on the inside, and love is blind (or at least has much different aesthetic standards than what is considered normal!). I loved Beauty, and her single-minded mechanic pursuit of taking things apart and putting them back together. I've never read about a scientific fairy tale heroine before! There's obviously much more to the Beast than meets the eye, and he grew on me rather quickly. He was much more humane than the men who lived in the city near his castle. With the exception of Beauty, the Beast, Bellamy, and a mysterious witch woman, there aren't any truly likeable characters to be found. Beauty's family are a lot of selfish, money hungry idiots, and the townsfolk are all too quick to condemn anyone who thinks differently than they do. This is a quick read with a satisfying conclusion. I'd read the sequel in a heartbeat, if there ever is one!
It's a very different erotic read. There were some aspects I liked. Specifically, I enjoy dark romance novel, not BDSM or anything of that sort, but real depth with dark truths. This one has that, however it has a very "Alice in Wonderland" plot where things just don't flow but happens because it's fantasy in a "why not?" kind of way. There is depth, but the characters only go skin deep. I don't have any connections, yet I kept reading, hoping I would get something.
Why such a low rating? It was confusing to get where and when it took place. Words didn't fit, languages weren't consistent. One minute, they reference French, yet end up speaking Spanish. "Wham-Bam. Thank you, mademoiselle." Yet she has no idea what a postman is? I was irritated more with the words than any other characteristic this author portrayed.
Not for children. I'm not sure I like these new versions my old fairy tails.
As I already wrote, I am not sure I like these new (or are they old) versions of the fairy tails from my youth. I've understood that the real British versions are not for children either. I'd like to find the originals and see for myself what they are. Can anyone recommend a good book on the original meanings.?
I enjoyed that mix of Spanish-America and a dash of French New Orleans .The only heard part to this read ,was that the course was not outlined all that well. But for the most part the romance overrides any doubt in the story. Really enjoyed this retelling of Beauty and the Beast.
I like the story, but I felt as if the characters conflict was easily resolved. I would not classify this as erotica, those scenes were generic and lacked detail. I may or may not read any more from this author but I did like the character development, Beauty in particular was very interesting.
This was so weird. I think it was supposed to be erotica? Maybe? It definitely did NOT read as such, but it was a pretty decent reinterpretation and it was cheap AF on amazon, soooo...there you have it.
I have to say that I did enjoy this story. I think more so because it was fantasy fairy tale style. This makes me feel transported. Gothic. Steamy. Erotic (some). Sensual. Alluring. This young one has something that this Beast wants.
This was a very good book. It is an unusual telling of Beauty and the Beast. The book is very well written and the author does an excellent job describing this new world. There is action, drama and a ton of steam.
I enjoyed reading it, but it was very forgettable. I just finished it, and the details are already fading. Regardless, I will definitely read more by this author.
Good twist on the classic fairytale. I especially enjoyed Beauty as a scientist and inventor, and that she chose to serve the beast to further her ambition s.
Interesting retelling of the original. I liked that Beauty was really different, smart and clear of mind and heart. Pretty steamy, so definitely a hot-cocktail-read. :) Fair warning.
DNF 50% - I wanted to like this book, I really did, but halfway through, I just couldn't stand it anymore. In the beginning, I liked the heroine, but as the book went on, I fell out of love with her.
A great fairytale told with a lot of sex and mystery. This is a great story beauty is smart and resourceful her family is greedy and selfish..The beast is a great mystery but a wild sexual being the beast must be satisified and beauty begins to like the attention... add in a evil man that wants beauty and doesnt care how he gets her.. you have a raunchy fairytale with quite a few twists and turns and alot of sex... Its a must read for erotic readers and beauty and the beast fans. I absolutely loved it cant wait for more novels from this talented story teller
the story was interesting but the sex knocked it down a star. the force rutting the second she steps inside with her being a virgin...it was harsh and uncalled for. I get she signed up for this. but at least explain some of what is gonna happen and ask how much experience she has. I get not wanting to lose yourself but dang. other than that it was an interesting premise.
This was fantastic! Beauty and the Beast is the second book I've read by this author and I love their writing style. To be able to read a grown up form of a fairy tale you thought you knew is wonderful and so interesting! It was a little dark but you expect that, and there was a different twist on it. Loved this so much. I received an exclusive arc of this.
You got Beauty who is a fierce, witty little thing. Though she could wallow in her despair and become a martyr to her new found world; however, she does the opposite and controls the situation like a fucking BOSS.
”I’m not a martyr, I’m a gambler.”
Ole’ Beast, a man cursed for his actions, forced to live a life of servitude to his lustful desires… doesn’t sound so bad, huh?
This book isn’t that far off from Beauty and the Beast, well except for the “rutting”, and I do have to say that is probably one of my least favorite words. It reminds me of a pig. You got the craptastic family, who only use Beauty for gold. Her brother Gaspar is a douche who would rather see riches than his sister happy. You have the enchanted castle, the curse, the Beast, the rose garden, the fight to the end, and of course the happily ever after. Almost forgot about the smut and rut involved. – #smutnation.
I am honestly surprised this book isn’t more popular. Hell, this is a re-reader for me.
La Bete, the Beast, is not from this world. He was cursed and sent here to live because he fell in love with the wrong woman. Cursed to live as a beast who must sate his lust with a woman in beast form or go mad. He contracts and pays a woman for a year at a time until he meets "the one" destined to live with him for eternity.
Beauty has been chosen to be the next woman for the beast. Her father took a rose from the beast's magical garden and the beast wants it back along with one of his daughters. Unlike the Disney story, Beauty is not an only child but the youngest of five kids. She volunteers to go in exchange for five chests of gold to be given to her family for compensation.
This is an interesting twist on the story. I have read other adult fairy tales and this one was okay. There is a lot of hot sex, if you can not think about having sex with a lion man. In my opinion, if you read this as a Paranormal romance and not think about the fairy tale you will enjoy it better, although it's hard to do with all the similarities. There is a HEA with no cliffhanger.
I voluntarily reviewed an Exclusive ARC of this book.
