Sent to live with Chicago relatives after getting into trouble back home in North Carolina, Justin has made a life for himself. At twenty-three, the handsome black man is a single father with a stable construction job and a reputation with the ladies.
Nia is twenty-five and a successful nurse. She’s been hurt enough that she’s given up on the idea of love, despite the enthusiastic urges of her best friend, Angie. Still, a night out on the town does a woman good, so tonight she’s off to a local nightclub.
It’s there that she meets Justin. The attraction is immediate and the chemistry undeniable. To Angie’s delight, Nia and Justin move quickly into a serious relationship. Ty, Justin’s best friend, is confused. Justin’s a smooth-talking ladies’ man. Why would he want to settle for one woman when he’s played the field for so long—and so successfully?
As Justin and Nia draw closer, they face a series of challenges threatening to end their blossoming romance. For one thing, the ladies who once enjoyed Justin’s attentions don’t seem willing to give him up easily. And for another, a man Justin trusts plans to betray him—and Nia.
Starting With Us by Nicky Jones is the author's debut novel and it was a great story and good read. Nia just coming out of a relationship and is really not looking for a new one meets Justin a guy who is not looking for a relationship and his focus is on his work and his son. The author gives you drama, love, laughs and some "oh no she/he did not. There was one of the characters I wanted to just slap. The author did leave my mouth wide open at the end and I am looking forward to the sequel. Good job !!
