Christmas is supposed to be a happy time but Aisling Grimlock is feeling anything but festive. For her, the world seems to be shrinking and good cheer is hard to find.
Her live-in boyfriend Griffin Taylor is in a good mood. His shopping is done, he’s happy with their new living arrangements and his mother is coming to visit. This will be the first time she meets the Grimlock family… and Aisling has her doubts about how smooth the meeting will go.
Aisling’s worry about meeting Griffin’s mother takes a backseat when a new enemy appears, this one haunting Aisling in mirrors and turning up at the exact wrong time. The creature seems fascinated with Aisling – following her from one mirror to the next – and threatening her very survival.
The Grimlocks are going to have to join together when one of their own goes down, banding together as a united front to make sure the thing they love most – their family – isn’t torn apart.
Christmas is coming… and so is trouble. Survival isn’t a given this year, but the Grimlocks won’t give up without a fight.
When I was a kid, I was torn between whether or not I was going to grow up and be the Incredible Hulk or Wonder Woman. I flirted with being a Jedi Knight for awhile, but I wasn't up for the intense travel associated with the gig. In my teens, I settled on being a writer -- although I had no idea the effort that would entail. Not only am I a writer now, but I'm a writer in several different mediums. I'm a longtime newspaper reporter, an avid reader and a voracious science fiction fanatic.
4.5 to 5 Stars... This one was so close to a solid 5 star read for me ... It was fast paced, had an intriguing mystery, loved the character interactions, and the love story was ever present and incredibly sweet and sexy... I just wanted a little more out of the outcome of the mystery; it sort of flatlined for me at the end... It was so interesting and I wanted it to go deeper, but it ended somewhat superficially, and I still cannot figure out Lily Grimlock's motives... It is driving me crazy... I absolutely loved this read though and want this series to just keep going!:)
I really, really, really love this series and it's not just for Aisling and Griffin it's the whole Grimlock family and extended family hey I even love Angelina lol these books would not be the same without her.
I love a series where you continually fall more and more in love with the characters Aisling is growing up even if she won't admit it...lol Griffin is a very patient man who loves Aisling with his whole heart. Cormack Grimlock is the best Father in the whole universe and the fact that these kids have not cause him a heart attack yet is a testament to his greatness.... Aisling's brothers are all magical in their own ways I love the banter and bickering between Braeden and Aisling and even with all that they always have each others backs, I love how devoted Aiden is not only to his whole family but especially Aisling his twin, Redmond being the eldest is the most responsible but I love that he can let his hair down at home and have wicked fun torturing his siblings, Cillian is just a sweetheart and I love him and Maya together they are both sweethearts. Jerry, Jerry, Jerry is well just Jerry he is perfection he is the glue who holds Aisling together...lol
I am still undecided about their Mum she is still sketchy to me.
Oh Griffin and Maya's mum was awesome I LOVED her Katherine can visit anytime or even move in permanently.....lol
It must be wonderful to be loved and protected by so many wonderful men and I know deep down Aisling knows this but I also know she would love to smother them all in their sleep if they keep smothering her... sorry protecting her...lol Family what more can you say than Family.
Aisling is going to be meeting Griffin's mom for the first time this Christmas. This is also their first Christmas together, and things are getting even more crazy for Aisling. On top of that, something in the mirror is stalking Aisling, and she doesn't understand it.
When something horrible happens to Aisling, all the men her life do what they can to try to make things better. But it may not be enough!
This book was utterly amazing! I adored Aisling, and everything that happened with her, even though I laughed I also cried at times too. This book was actually very emotional and not just hilarious either. I loved Griffin and Aisling, and I'm really tired of her mother, but other than that I very much enjoyed this one, and I can't wait for more.
I loved this book. Amanda Lee never disappoints. I love the sense of humor just oozing out of each character. I would recommend this series to anyone as well as other books written by her.
Christmas at Grimlock manor was delightfully chaotic, snarky, funny, and tinged with danger - exactly what I have come to expect from the series. Aisling was in particularly fine form - teasing and torturing her brothers and Griffin. Her big personal challenge in this book was meeting and spending the holiday with Griffin's mother. Professionally, the Grimlock's still have wraiths and Lily Grimlock to wrestle with. Oh, and there is the faceless man who came out of a mirror to attack Aisling. In other words, it was just another day at the office. As always I jumped right into Aisling's world and enjoyed the ride. I am ready to leap into the next book.
Aisling Grimlock took away from the story with her constant whining and moaning. It lacked Aisling's strong snarky personality and replace it with an obnoxious person you just wanted to slap. With that said, the story gets jumbled.. Aisling is attacked by a faceless man, Griffin's mother arrives for her holiday visit and Aisling's mother solves the mystery. All while the Grimlock family is celebrating the Christmas holidays.
It is Christmas time and there is a new threat after Aisling.
What I enjoyed: * Love the Grimlocks and their interactions * We get to meet Griffin's mother * Still trying to figure out Aisling's mom's motives - I hope it gets resolved soon *
What could have been better: * I would have liked a bit more info on the bad guy at the end * Aisling is stubborn, which if fine most of the time, but when she is still physically recovering she needs to be more realistic
I just finished binge-reading the six books in this series. I actually binge-listening the first four books, and was disappointed to find that there was no audiobook version of books 5 and 6. I really enjoyed books 1 and 2. The character interactions were, occasionally, hysterical. And yet, despite the family bickering, insults and complaints, it was clear how much the entire family cared for each other. By the end of book 2, I was hooked.
Admittedly, the plot points in the later books might have been bit weak, but not enough to make me NOT want to finish all the books.
I consider an author to have a "win" when I am almost persuaded to forget that the characters in the book aren't actually real.
Christmas could be put on hold if the mirrors have their way
Brilliant. Meeting the future in laws is always nerve racking. But try adding the pressure of Christmas and a monster that seems to be stalking you through mirrors. Can she cope with giving the appearance of being a normal girl whilst also fighting for her very life especially when her family is the very picture of dysfunctional? Will her secret be revealed? Great plot and wonderfully executed. Okay it's OTT but it's a wonderful bit of escapism. What I want to know is - is Ais more than just a Reaper? The only criticism I have is the cover - really hated it.
I am seriously entertained by this series. I love the snarky relationship between Aisling and her brothers, her best friend, her boyfriend, everyone!
I don't know if the author is drawing on her own family, a relative, or a dream family, but it works for me. The only thing I have a hard time believing is the character of Griffin. Truly, at this point and probably several books ago, he became "too good to be true." I read some of the passages to my husband of 31 years and neither he nor I can remember ever feeling the way that Griffin describes feeling. I would not be surprised to read later that he is related to Edward Cullen of the Twilight saga.
I have already pre-ordered book 7 and downloaded all the "short stories" to tide me over until the next release.
It seems like when I start a new series of Amanda's that I haven't read I want to say it is my favorite. I really like the Grimlock books. Sometimes I get bored with all of the dialogue of them arguing but other than that I love these books. Aisling is my hero. If I could get away with acting like her I might do it!! I complain about the perfect relationships in Amanda's books but Aisling and Griffin's relationship is amazing. I have cried more than once and I hate romances. So what I am saying is great book, in my opinion!!
Nameless faceless mirror monster during the holidays... whatever could go wrong? The latest Grimlock story has it all; holiday prep, reaping, meeting the mother, love and attacks. I love Ms. Lee's writing and this is just another example why. But don't start with this installment as it will only confuse you. Start back at the beginning and you will enjoy the ride.
Love this series and author. I highly recommend you read this book. It can be a standalone but I really think you should read the series in order. I love the humor, family interactions, best friend breakouts, and of course the paranormal plot running thru the story. Sit back and prepare for a great rollercoaster ride with all the ups and downs in this new adventure. Read this series, please.
Wow. I'm not sure how she does it, but what a unique story. I love the continuing story line with Aisling and Griffin and the other Grimlock family members. I enjoy the snarky humor. This book had a bit more angst and emotions in it but all that did was keep me turning the pages anxious to see how it turns out. On to the next book. I hope they never stop.
A true holiday meltdown in the Grimlock household is brewing. Once more Aisling finds herself in the midst of trouble and this time the stakes seemed to have upped a notch or two, sending the whole family into a spin. On top of that add Griffin's mother and on with the show, hijinks abound. Aisling and Griffin are a delight and every book they relationship seems to take yet another step forward. I can't get enough of this series.
This book has me on an emotional roller coaster! Phew! I didn't know if I could survive that! I am so glad to be able to read how these characters are playing out and growing.
Griffins mom decides she is coming for the holidays and now Aisling is super stressed out about making her first impression. Of course it doesn't go well but what can we really expect out of her by now? She now faces new challenges that require her to grow as a person and she excels fantastically.
A little annoying behaviour, but I do enjoy these books, though. She nagged way too much in this book, that I almost wanted to slap her and wake up and get a grip. Acts like a child. Other than that it was a better mystery this time than just the wraiths around saying the same over and over. I do enjoy the father and just have to like him. The Mirror Man was a little different mystery I really enjoyed. Hope there will be more of that.
I have enjoyed all six books in the Aisling Grimlock series. It is light reading with a little bit of a supernatural side. Its not too scary and not too bloody, which I like! l am also happy that sex is implied, not graphically described. Thank you for a great series. I hope there are more stories to come!
I adore this series, and this installment was everything I wanted and more! Aisling and Griffin are great, as always, and the end was just perfection. They seemed a bit reminiscent of James and Mandy at times, which is great for me since they are my favorite Amanda M Lee/Lily Harper Hart couple. I loved the plot, and the mystery felt fresh and exciting. Can't wait for book 7!
The Grimlocks return, bringing their own zany brand of crazy to the supernatural world. This time the bad guy has everyone stumped and Aisling almost pays the ultimate price. Of course, this just prompts Griffin to take their relationship to the next level, much to Jerry's shopping delight. All in all, another normal day with the Grimlocks.
This time the Grimlocks are tasked with appeasing Griffin’s Mother when she arrives to spend Xmas with the family and to meet Aisling for the first time.
Things so wrong and Aisling begins to see a man in the mirror 🪞. She gets beaten up so badly that the Grimlocks must all work together to find out who is behind this once and for all.
Aisling is hoping for a quiet Christmas without any monsters but the mirror man has his own ideas about celebrating Christmas. Follow Aisling and Griffin as they try to get the monster and have a Merry Christmas. I laughed through the whole book. I think you will too!
This book was just okay. I think the author needs someone to help them with continuity as last book and this one had issues. I liked the Mirror Man but felt his resolution was too quick and easy for all the buildup. I do not care for holiday centered books and episodes so I'm just ready to get to the next one.
OMG what a great read with another addition, G's mother . Add her to the mix and the regular crazy happenings to the mix and what do you get? Mayhem. You have got to read this one , Its Christmas, its the Grimlocks, its outsiders and a new mystery thats not a wraith or a gargoyle. You gotta love it.
Amanda M. Lee has been writing stories taking place in cities and towns that are part of me and or my history. It's interesting to read a book that references places I'm familiar with.
It is always difficult for me to put a book written by Amanda M. Lee down once I've started it. This one was no exception. The ability she has to inject humor into her stories is one of the things I love most .
Easy reads, but I am getting tired of the two main characters being insecure and over the top protective. I think it bothers me more because I am reading them back to back.
Interesting twists, intriguing concepts and I love the snarky humor. Not uber believable, but fun entertainment when you don't want to work too hard. Good escapism reading.
I really can’t speak highly enough of this series. It is fun, quirky, smart and engrossing. If you like a heroine with a smart mouth, empathy, quick temper and quick pace, this set is for you.
