When Mabel Wickles decides to retire from being Parson's Cove's only amateur sleuth, she never dreams that she might be back to work on a cold case. However, there is no body - only a mother who left her husband and deserted her children many years ago. All Mabel has to go on is a young doctor newly arrived in town who seems to have too much money for a physician starting out, the missing woman's daughter who's recently secured a plush job at the local hospital, and her father, the local moonshiner. Besides being frustrated with the lack of clues about the missing Patterson mother, Mabel is also worried that her homemade wine supply is running out. She decides to see if Pa Patterson makes wine as well as moonshine. However, she soon finds herself at the end of a shotgun. Is this COLD CASE CONUNDRUM really worth her life
"I'm not sure when someone decides to become a writer. I was once asked why I started and I said, 'I was tired of reading so decided to start writing!' Some dream about it but never do it and others are foolish enough to try. I have always loved Daphne DuMaurier's quote: 'Writers should be read and not seen or heard.' I loved the thought of writing but having anonymity at the same time. I doubt that can be achieved in today's world. I write for the pleasure of writing and I share it because I hope others will find joy in reading it."
Second posting in January 2023 for same author, Sharon Mierke. After loving 'Sarah's Valley' (historical fiction), I purchased another book of hers of a different genre. 'Cold Case Conundrum' is a 'Mable Wickles mystery' book. What fun! I looked forward every afternoon to cozy up and follow this adventure. As I was recovering from surgery, this little novel felt like the best medicine during my recovery! Quality writing again, and simply delightful. Intriguing and highly amusing. The characters just seem to jump off the page and pull you into their lives. Neat little twists and turns. And the cats dominate plenty of the scenes which you know they will! Lovely! (PS) This mystery book also reminded me of reading Trixie Belden mysteries when I was a kid. Warm memory. Thanks, to author Sharon!
