MJ Boshers is an American author of fantasy and young adult books. Her debut series The Faewitch Series was published in 2017, which was nominated for best fantasy by the Academy Book Award. The series includes: The Faewitch, Ancient Blood, and Guardian of the Queen. MJ also has a love for poetry. Her newest novel is Monstrous Men, which starts a new series for her.
MJ Boshers is a great new Author. With The Faewitch, she’s woven a tale full of fun, mystery and romance not only for the YA genre but for anyone, period. Sophie is surprised when she’s whisked off to lands of the Fae, Wizards and Giants. When she learns of her real heritage, she’s heaped with a journey like none other. She finds and uses her powers with the help of her new friends and mortal friends but will she win in the end? Will romance play a part in her journey and how will she deal with it? MJ Boshers’s story sucked me in from the beginning and kept me coming back for more. I had a hard time putting it down. She has created magical worlds that make you want to be a part of. The story is fast moving with her excellent short chapters and you’re at the end before you realize it. She has real talent and I can’t wait to see what she puts out next! I highly recommend this book…A+++!
Overall I enjoyed this book. I enjoyed the plot and story. I liked seeing the journey be just that a journey. A journey into coming who you are and finding your way. One that has you looking for answers and finding friendships. It’s a coming of age journey but also one that has Sophie grow up, find love and save people as well.
MJ Boshers has written a fun entertaining tale of magic, deception, love and friendship. The story shows how when working together we are more powerful and able to conquer more than when alone because everyone has a different strength that helps to defeat what they are facing.
Chris is one that is hard to get to like but you see he had good intentions. You kind of feel for the guy because he knows no other way since he was raised by a madman. He wants that love and approval so badly that it blinds him. Well mostly blinds him in the end he is a changed guy and you like him.
Ian is wonderful. He seems all scowly at first but really he is a very honest and kind guy. He doesn’t believe in the situation that is going on. I loved watching him help at the risk of everything. I felt for him and all that he goes through but also feel he becomes a stronger kinder person due to all that he goes through in this book.
Sophie was strong and smart. She realized that friendship and working together is the way to defeat evil. She was very prideful though. She was quick to anger and jump to conclusions as well without listening to others when her pride is stepped on. other than this she is strong and kind. Her growth is amazing. She becomes a more confident and powerful character.
Maddox, Erik and Maeve wow. What wickedness comes this way by them. And selfishness. Maddox is just a madman and Maeve is selfish and jealous. She wanted the spotlight and power but ends up with neither. Erik not sure what he was after other than his brother’s world. But they are evil in the likes of Maleficent evil.
All of Sophie’s friends were great. They stuck by her and helped her no matter what. they were loyal and kind. Showing what true friendship is.
What bothered me? The instant love and how it flitted so quickly. Did it distract me? No just not something that I didn't need to have me enjoy this book. For me Sophie was lost in this area and flitted about with her feelings very loosely. And again it doesn’t take away from the entertainment and wonderful plot or the characters in any way. It may have been purposeful on the authors part to have this to show the flitting feelings of that age or maybe it is of the world they are in that this is normal I just didn’t have it help me with the story. I did like where the love interests ended up and loved how love changed Chris and all he sacrificed for it.
Overall this was a well written and entertaining story that keeps you reading on and seeing if this group of teens can be successful in their journey and has you wanting to know what is next. I look forward to seeing where these characters will be going from here.
This. Ok was an amazing book through Sophie's eyes. I'm 13 years old and this book is still a good book for me! I can't wait to get my book signed in Nashville!
Sophie is your average sixteen year old teenager. Yes she was adopted but that never mattered too her. She never really thought she was anything different than anyone else. Boy was she wrong. Her not so average day starts off the same as every other day, only this time someone new shows up to her school. She does not think too much on it, her friends and her head to the mall after school. Things change dramatically once they are at the mall. The new boy shows up with some friends and they want Sophie, they try to use force to take her with them. Her mother shows up, saves her and speeds away. Only she speeds them towards a portal to another realm, the realm of faeries and other immortals. There Sophie is faced with the truth about who, what she is, and what she can become. She builds friendships with others that will be tested against an powerful enemy, will fall in love, and will come to know a great loss.
I give this book 5 out of 5 stars! It was truly an amazing book to read. You ride the roller coaster through Sophie's journey and can never put the book down. It was so well written, the story line never faltered or slowed down. I could not give this book anything less than 5 stars.
I absolutely loved this book, not just for being so well written, but because the friendships that Sophie make that seem unbreakable and will last forever. Their friendships will be tested on many levels of trust, duty, and love. Her and her friends find the power and knowledge together, but she is always ready to sacrifice herself to save them.
I did not dislike anything in this book. But there was another great thing in the book, is her love life. Her love life feels like it becomes a twelve step program on the different type of love and romance. As I followed her along, I could feel her raw emotions. I cried when she cried, laughed when she laughed, screamed, anger, pain, despair and grief. And Finally at long last happiness, in its true form.
This book is a great and amazing book for teenagers and young adults. While there is a lot of kissing, flirting and teasing, it is surprising PG-13. I feel that teenagers should read this book, not because its a fantasy-supernatural-romance, but because of the everyday issues the Sophie still has to face. I believe that some young readers who are facing some troubling times could find this beneficial.
I can not wait to read the rest of the books in this series. It is now one of my all time favorites.
Thank you MJ Boshers for my autographed copy, I do always believe in love can get me through anything.
I received this copy for GoodReads giveaways and I am not obligated to provide a review.
One day, you're hanging out with your friends, visiting the mall and googling over boys, then said boys try to kidnap you, waving sticks that actually throw enough force to knock someone off their fee! That's what happened to Sophie. She's nearly killed, then her life is never, ever the same...
The Faewitch, by M. J. Boshers is about a girl who discovers she's not human. She's a lot of something else. She also discovers the world is bigger than the one she's always lived - so much bigger, in fact, that she actually crosses over into another realm. A place where fairies, wizards and more are real.
The Faewitch carries a very interesting storyline. It's filled with amazing fantasy and possibilities beyond anything Sophie could have imagined, but I didn't like how it all played out. Everything happened too fast. I don't mean the introduction; that was amazing and meant to be fast. The author didn't allow me to enjoy the character. Instead of coming off as a girl who'd just had her entire world swept from beneath her, I felt she was a disrespectful brat who never knew when to keep her mouth shut! She stood before a king, who just happened to be her grandfather and nearly went off! The penalty for just saying something is death in some parts- but she just fusses, yells and goes off on tangents! I didn't like her at all, so I didn't care for her. Other characters were much better.
I also didn't like the proper feel of the teenaged conversations. No one, no matter who they are speaks THAT proper, unless they're British! Sometimes you need a conjunction, some abbreviation or simple slang! It didn't feel real enough for me.
I can say that I believe Boshers has a future in storytelling. Her ideas of the novel were unique and fun on many instances. I just think this one isn't the one to carry her to fame. I'll be looking for more. *Full review coming to www.areneehunt.com
The Faewitch Written by M. J. Boshers Published by Amazon Digital Services, May 2017 Teen & Young Adult Fantasy 286-pages
Sophie Ann is sixteen and has just spent the day with her friends when her mother ends up driving them off a cliff and into the Faerylands. Sophie just learns that she is half faery and half witch. An abomination and a princess with the possibility to be more powerful than either parts on their own. She is now trying o master her powers while drawing the attention of three brothers and learning to navigate this new world.
This is an amazing debut from author M.J. Boshers. You instantly get sucked into the story as you follow along as Sophie’s mother is driving the minivan and neck breaking speeds around curves and trying to get enough speed to get through the portal. Sophie is a great, independent young lady that is thrown for a loop about her heritage. But she is going to have to learn fast how to use her powers and who to trust and not to trust.
I loved this story. I think it’s a great start to a new young adult fantasy story. I strongly recommend it to anyone that likes a great YA fantasy story.
I received The Faewitch from Sage’s Blog Tours for free. This has in no way influenced my opinion of this book.
This review was first published on Kurt's Frontier.

Review:
The Faewitch is M. J. Boshers’s first novel and not bad for a first attempt. The Faewitch is is a young adult novel that can also be classified as urban fantasy. The protagonist is Sophia, a young woman who has recently discovered that she isn’t a mortal but a part faery, part witch hybrid. The book is written in the first person. Sophia is a likable young woman, and the adventures are interesting. However, M. J. Boshers changes points of view occasionally through the story. I am not one to consider this a mortal sin in story telling. I have read books that do this that I have liked. However, the few times she does this do not seem to advance the story. The actions scenes were often hard to visualize—too often told rather than shown. One other problem the author faces is that it is hard to keep track of all the characters. While it needs some developing, the story telling does show promise, and I am curious to see how the series unfolds.
The author has put a great amount of hard work and effort into her debut novel, and it is a fast, fun, action-packed read, great for this time of year. Sophie, the main character, comes to life in full bloom. She is a sweet, sexy, kindhearted and compassionate young woman, sixteen going on seventeen, full of energy and enthusiasm - she is very witty and charismatic. Thrust into other worlds (where she is told her mother was a faery and her father a wizard, their love an abomination), she must endure many a conflict. Her grandfather is king, and she herself is a princess, but there is evil and contention all around. As the plot develops and swells through many twists and turns, Sophie discovers love and the need to fight and protect the ones she loves, and all in all I am completely satisfied after having read the book because there was never a dull moment and Sophie is a well-developed, well-rounded enjoyable character.
I was given a free copy of the Faewitch in exchange for a review. Not my usual genre, but it's been a very pleasant experience!
This is a great young adult novel about a teenage girl whose life is turned upside down when she goes to the mall with some of her friends. As you dive into the story, it unfolds just like any other folk tale about a girl, some magic, wizards, giants, and fairies.
The conversation and action whisk you away to a fairy tale land of kings, princesses, dungeons, guards, mortals and a cat.
Sophie and her friends are realistically portrayed as teenagers as they talk about school, order out and eat pizza, watch movies and make lots of plans as they try to help Sophie on her journey to find herself and save the world.
I like the plot, the danger, and the romance. M.J. Boshers helps young women see that it is okay to fall in love with more than one man, and how it works itself out in the end. Sophie sticks to her choices and her loyalty to each is compromised by her lovers.
I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
