A fallen prince, vanished. A ransom on His Majesty’s Elite demanded by shaky allies. A kingdom teetering on the brink of darkness.
Azi and Rian’s urgent quest takes them to Hywilkin, a harsh land of ice and snow reigned by heartless men with a cruel intolerance for magic of any kind. Lurking in the far corners of the world, the Sorcerers of Dusk weave darkness into the hearts and minds of the allies of Dawn. In the floating kingdom of Brindelier, they lure Tib, the Dreamstalker, into their dangerous plots as he investigates a shadowy conspiracy. The Champions of Light must prevail, or watch the world they cherish fall forever into the grips of Sorcery.
Missy Sheldrake is an epic daydreamer and a muse of positivity who weaves worlds full of character-driven, complex fantasy adventures.
In 2014 she dusted off an unfinished Tassy Walden Award-winning manuscript from her college days, started writing her first novel, Call of Kythshire, and never looked back. In four short years, she completed the five-book Keepers of the Wellsprings series, an epic high-fantasy young adult adventure that was awarded the Golden Squirrel Independent Book Award in 2017 for Best Fantasy.
When she isn't writing, Missy can be found creating fantastical artworks in paint and clay, wandering hidden forest paths, and concocting plots for imaginary people who are beyond real to her. She loves to hear from her readers, so feel free to drop her a line!
Like the others in the series, this is a long book with lots and lots happening. It's filled with magic, fairies of all kinds, mages, knights, bards, golems, skeletons, giants, mermaids, and other strange creatures. What can I say? It's a fairytale.
I hesitated before reading this one, not because I didn't like the others (because I did), but the blurb made it sound so hopeless. I had problems imagining this tale turning into something so dark. As it turned out, this one was by far my favorite. It's not as it seems to be.
Now, maybe it's because I am a gamer, but I loved the way the author presented the fighters. I mean, you see it in games, bards, healers, mages, swordsmen and, of course, the monsters, but while in games you fight, you don't really understand how it's done or even where the mobs come from. In this story, you do and it feels so natural. You don't wonder how a song can heal or calm or give energy, you just believe.
Once again, my favorite character was Tib. I would compare him to the rogue class. In games, rogues can become invisible, which always made me wonder how this could be. With Tib, you know about the half-realm and it makes perfect sense.
The one thing that made me wonder a bit (and chuckle a lot) was the thought of the half giant…I mean…there was a small giant in the story that was the size of a house. Well, now I'm thinking half giant? Mom couldn't be human, she'd have exploded before giving birth. Dad, a human? ok...why not…but then…I'm trying to imagine the conception of the child. Do I need to explain further? Oh well…it's a fairytale so not everything can be explained.
Another 5 star book by Missy Sheldrake which is book 4 in The Keeper of the Wellsprings series. So much adventure and action! So many awsome new characters and villains. You watch others grow. I definitely saw disney movie references. Missy will give you all the feels in this book so be prepared! I cannot say enough with how obsessed I am with this series.
