Wilbert Vere Awdry, OBE, better known as the Rev. W. Awdry, was an English clergyman, railway enthusiast and children's author, and creator of Thomas the Tank Engine, who starred in Awdry's acclaimed Railway Series.

The characters that would make Awdry famous, and the first stories featuring them, were invented in 1943 to amuse his son Christopher during a bout of measles. The first book (The Three Railway Engines) was published in 1945, and by the time Awdry stopped writing in 1972, The Railway Series numbered 26 books. Christopher subsequently added further books to the series.

A decent set of short stories.

I do not have any copies of his son’s works, so I guess I’ll end this series of reviews for now! I grew to like Mavis a bit I guess, and most of the stories were good. It’s not one of my favorites, but eh.

I enjoyed this series as a whole. Awdry put a lot of work and effort into these books, while seemingly still doing them for his son at the end of the day! Loved a lot of the artwork and most of the stories. I’ll gladly be picking some of these up again sometime.

Amazing illustrations. Duke the Lost Engine definitely would have been a better finale but the stories in this are still good.
