Brilliantly edited collection of wisdom from Julian of Norwich, the fourtheenth century mystic, each page has a short, almost poem-like or prayer-like entry. There's a simplicity in these visions and meditations that gives the reading an intimacy I treasure. This book sits beside my meditation cushion and I read a passage whenever I want to sense not God's transcendence, but God's immanence.

A good abridgement of Julian's book, focusing on her advice and encouragement rather than the showings. Which makes for a good meditation book.

Julian of Norwich's book, The Revelation of Divine Love, came to me at a time of grief from losing three people close to me in succession. The world felt cold and God seemed absent. But Julian's book was what comforted me and brought me back to faith. Reading it I found I could feel God's presence with me again, remember that His arms were always around me, and have renewed hope that all would be well one day. I will always treasure Julian's revelation for that reason! This particular book by Brendan Doyle has some of the best quotes from Julian's book, in a format that truly is meditative, and it's a good introduction to Julian's thoughts. Julian is just so positive in her view of God and people: "God is everything which is good..and the goodness which everything has is God." She is so refreshing for anyone who feels condemned or shamed for their failures: "He looks on us with pity not with blame..There is no wrath in God." She is so optimistic about the future: "I will do all that needs to be done...I will make everything well that is not well." And she always says God is right here, holding us, loving us: "We are forever one with Him in love...I hold you very securely...we never shall be lost."

This rendering attempts to modernize Julian's writings and in doing so loses the author's original content and intent. It is "okay," but disappointing in its approach. There are other works that remain true to Julian's message.

I liked this simple, reflective introduction to Julian of Norwich. The format really helps, too.

"All will be well" are words I live by. This centering book is a gift to the world from the 14th century.

Beautiful. Like lovely poetry, something to savor in tidbits, slowly. 4-stars for the occasional bite of biblical error you have to spit out.
