Sometimes, the truth begins with a lie…

Desperate to break the suffocating grip of eternal winter, the fae prince Varian summons the most powerful witches and fae to shatter the icy shroud around La Condamine, but no one wants to die for the prince's cause. When he conscripts by force, they flock to Nithya, begging her to wrap her flawless illusions around their magic bracelets.

Nithya undermines Varian's tyranny until she realizes there is more to him than the facade of a merciless dictator. Even so, she's not the biggest traitor in the realm. The conspiracy that murdered Varian's father now turns its malice and hatred against him. Nithya finds herself entangled in treachery, betrayal, and illusions far more entrapping than anything she can conjure.

The prize is the soul of a nation, and the price is everything she cherishes-including Varian's love.

Jade Kerrion, an award-winning author, got her start in fan fiction. She developed a loyal reader base with her fan fiction series based on the MMORPG Guild Wars. She was accused of keeping her readers up at night, distracting them from work, housework, homework, and (far worse), from actually playing Guild Wars.

And then she wondered why just screw up the time management skills of gamers? Why not aspire to screw everyone else up too? So here she is, writing books that aspire to keep you from doing anything else useful with your time.

She lives in Fort Lauderdale, Florida with her wonderfully supportive husband and her two young sons, Saint and Angel, (no, those aren't their real names, but they are like saints and angels, except when they're not.)

I won't rate this one, as I gave up about 1/3 in.

I wouldn't have chosen this book on my own, but read it, as it was part of my SPFBO batch.

I didn't really click with it in the start, but it grew on my after a bit more reading.
The concept was interesting, and I did like the characters, but the "insta romance" killed it for me.
She sees "him" for the first time in her shop, and of course there are already sparks. That is fine so far, but then he grabs her by the waist, there is a "sudden jolt of desire" after maybe a minute of knowing each other. He trusts her enough to change all his politics after having met her twice and such. That just felt rushed and unbelievable to me.
Also she usually doesn't like to be touched without a warning, but with HIM it is absolutely ok to just "grab her".

Sorry, but this one just isn't my personal cup of tea.

Sometimes, the truth starts with a lie.
La Condamine is the smallest of Isa Fae factions, ruled by benevolent Delacroix family. The life there is for a witch far from equal to the fae, but they at least get a chance, and are not abused as much as in the other factions. Nithya is a powerful witch, the owner of a famous jewelry store called Illusions - and illusions are indeed her greatest magical gift. One day, when prince Varian himself enters her store in a disguise to place an order for a birthday present, neither of them would expect the crashing impact of their meeting - and where it will lead the whole faction.
This is my third story I have read in this collection, and I must say, I can´t decide which one is better. Illusions is a story that is so brilliantly written, full of fire and raging emotions, that the icy world that became of the faction since the eternal winter would melt ...together with the reader´s heart. Powerful fae magic cannot compete with the power of love and hate, and no amount of magic could compensate the price for murder and betrayal. But illusions can start miracles - because belief, faith, and hope are powerful weapons and in the right hands may restore the destroyed.
I absolutely loved the main characters. Nithya´s fiery temper, ruthless behavior, and sharp tongue guaranteed certain heat in her interactions with others, and balanced with Varians calm logic, strong morals, and passionate determination, they made a perfect couple - with all disguises and glamours, or without.
If I had any spare time, I would start the book once over again. Great reading experience.

„Illusions” by Jade Kerrion is an amazing story which takes you on a wonderful journey into a world full of magic, mystery, grief, jealousy and intrigue. The plot keeps you interested all the way through, the main characters are well balanced and make a perfect couple that has captured a piece of my heart. It is beautifully written with rich vocabulary and style, which makes the novel unputdownable. This is the first book I have read by this writer and certainly not the last one. I recommend it to all fans of dystopia, fantasy and romance in one.
I recieved a free copy of this book, but this did not affect my review.

“Whatever it costs, do it. I’ll pay anything for the perfect illusion.”

An amazing, haunting tale, full of intrigue, deception and redemption. Jade Kerrion skillfully weaves an epic tale that will linger long after the last word is read and the final page turned. Strong characters and complex plotlines are intricately interwoven, creating a fantastical world with unique elements and situations. Highly recommend to anyone that enjoys high fantasy!

I was given this book as an ARC and have voluntarily chosen to review it. It is, quite simply, superb. The story blends magic with romance; there is evil abroad drenched in old jealousy; there is good abroad in the person of Varian who desires only the best for his people and is willing to die for their future. Jade Kerrion's stories flow mesmerizingly - start one and you will be unable to put it down until your husband yanks you away or you fall asleep unwillingly. I read quickly and I sped through this because I could not wait to see what happens next. But half-way through, I realized by doing that I was actually going to want to re-read this book for all the subtleties and not in a year, but very soon indeed. I don't write spoilers or book reports; I can tell you this book is extremely well-written and will grab and hold your attention. If you like fantasies, you will definitely love this. I did.
