Dust jacket and interior illustrations by Doris Mantair.

Subterranean Press is pleased to present, from NYT #1 bestselling author Ilona Andrews, an omnibus of the first three novels in the Innkeeper series. Our edition will be huge (over 760 pages), with an original full-color wraparound dust jacket, as well as full-color and black-and-white interior illustrations by Doris Mantair.

About the Book:

Meet Dina Demille, a nice Texas gal who runs a seemingly ordinary, quaint B&B.  But Dina’s inn is a magic, thinking entity; her fluffy Shih-tzu, Beast really is a beast; and her guests are the kind that no one on earth is supposed to know about:  guests like a dethroned galactic tyrant with a massive bounty on her head, the Lord Marshal of a powerful vampire clan, and a displaced—and superhot—alpha-strain werewolf.

So don’t expect a normal stay…and don’t stand too close, or you may be collateral damage….

In Clean Sweep, Dina—with the unwanted assistance of newcomer (and alpha werewolf) Sean Evans and Arland, a cosmic vampire soldier—takes on an extraterrestrial killing machine that could destroy her Inn, her neighbors, and everything she holds dear.

Sweep in Peace, finds Dina hosting an anything-but peace summit between three warring intergalactic species; Space Vampires, the Hope-Crushing Horde, and the devious Merchants of Baha-char.

One Fell Sweep sends Dina to the galaxy’s worst penal colony to rescue her sister; and back home to fend off a clan of assassins in pursuit, all while saving a guest’s civilization from annihilation…and searching for her missing parents.

Ilona Andrews is the pseudonym for a husband-and-wife writing team. Ilona is a native-born Russian and Gordon is a former communications sergeant in the U.S. Army. Contrary to popular belief, Gordon was never an intelligence officer with a license to kill, and Ilona was never the mysterious Russian spy who seduced him. They met in college, in English Composition 101, where Ilona got a better grade. (Gordon is still sore about that.)

Gordon and Ilona currently reside in Oregon with their two children, three dogs and a cat. They have co-authored two series, the bestselling urban fantasy of Kate Daniels and romantic urban fantasy of The Edge.

ARC provided by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

It is no secret that I am obsessed and in love with everything that this writing duo creates. IA is truly a tier about all urban fantasy, and I recommend any and everything by them if you love the genre or are just getting into it. IA is maybe the only author(s) that I can say whole heartedly that I love everything they've created, not like, not think is okay or worth reading, LOVE.

Not only do you receive the first three volumes of this series in this bind up, it is also filled with jaw dropping gorgeous artwork by Doris Mantair. The art that was in these novels were also something that I looked forward to, but seeing them in full, and completely perfected, was amazing.

You can preorder this gorgeous bind up of all three novels in the Innkeeper Chronicles here for a limited time!

And if $75 is a little steep for you (and for me, let's be real), this series started out as something IA posted serialized on their website. I'm not entirely sure if you can see find these books for free online, but they are about $13 each on Amazon, and so very worth reading.

Also, go request this on Netgalley while it is still available! Seriously, you get some breathtaking art work and three of the best PNR/UF books, by the very best PNR/UF writer(s), on the market! If I hadn't already read this series, it would have been the best approval Netgalley has ever given me.

I'm going to break down each novel with their individual reviews and ratings, and also with links to their individual reviews on Goodreads. Again, I loved this series, this world, and these characters. Each book just gets better and better, and I hope and pray they continue on with this series until the end of time.

1.) Clean Sweep ★★★★
I loved this new world and expected nothing less from this amazing writing duo. I was not expecting all the sci-fi developments, so that took me for by a very pleasant surprise. The concepts in this book were so unique; I've never read anything about "Innkeepers" before. I wouldn't be surprised if it was a completely new concept they created. Basically, if you're looking for a good PNR/sci-fi love child, I can't recommend this enough.

So what's the deal with this innkeeper and her inn? Well, first off the inn is a sentient being that gives immense powers to the Innkeeper when they are on its property, and even some powers when off of it. Just like inns in our world, people check in to stay for however long periods of time and the innkeeper will see to their needs. In this world, travelers come from all over the universe and have some pretty peculiar wants and needs. Our main character and innkeeper, Dina, came into the profession because her parents were also innkeepers so she grew up with it and loved the lifestyle. Unfortunately, her parents and their whole inn disappeared, so she's now made it her life mission to find them.

But what would an inn be without guests? We have a sexy neighborhood werewolf that doesn't know how powerful he really is. We also have a vampire full aware of his power, who is a warrior that is pretty swoon-worthy. Yes, that combination does equal a love triangle. Then my personal favorite, a cannibal alien that's on the run, with a strange appetite for Mellow Yellow and Funyuns. Then we throw in a very dangerous alien called a dahaka with his stalker beasts at his side, and we have a full paranormal/sci-fi cast.

I'll be honest, I didn't love this book as much as I did the rest of the Kate Daniels series, but it was still a good read. It just wasn't un-put-down-able like how I find Kate Daniels. It still has the super witty writing that makes you laugh out loud and feel silly giggling to yourself. It still portrays Dina as a strong independent woman character that more girls would strive to be like. Most important, it still had an engaging story that makes for a wonderful read. This book might not be five stars, but it was still one of the better books I've read in 2015.

“I have spent my spare time studying literature popular with young women of this planet. One should always study the battlefield."
Sean glanced at him. "And?"
"I suggest you give up now. According to my research, in a vampire-werewolf love triangle, the vampire always gets the girl.”

2.) Sweep in Peace ★★★★
Apparently, Jack, George, Gaston, and Lark/Sophie are all from IA's other series The Edge. I haven't read this series yet, but going off my friend's reviews this is either going to make you very happy or completely turn you off of this book! I am kind of scared to read it, but I loved Sweep in Peace so maybe I'll dive in one day when my stacks of "to reads" isn't touching my bedroom ceiling.

Oh, and I also think you will be able to read this for free on IA's website, but I don't think all the chapters are up yet. Or maybe they took it down for the actual book release? Either way, I think you will eventually be able to read it for free, which is pretty neat.

Ilona Andrews has a gift that most authors do not have; every book they write makes me want to be a part of that world. I remember being so young while reading Harry Potter, and I felt the same magic after I finished every book. That crazy longing to want to live in that world, and be a part of that story. Maybe I'm just crazy, but that's what Ilona does for me that most other authors will never be able to achieve, and for that they will get my never ending applause. Hell, Kate Daniels is post-apocalyptic and I still want to live in that world! Seriously, my fan-girling has made me sick, but I'm too far gone for any cure.

Sweep in Peace starts right up from where Clean Sweep left off. Honestly, you could probably just jump in and read this one; you just might not appreciate it (or Sean) as much, but this book does a wonderful job filling in the blanks without making the reader feel overwhelmed with information. Dina and Gertrude Hunt are still the same, while Caldenia is still the Inn's only guest. Well, that soon changes when Dina accepts to host The Summit for three factions who are at war over a planet. The planet, Nexus, contains large subterranean reserves of Kuyo, which is a liquid used in production of "pharmaceutical asset of significant strategic value". So it's very valuable and everyone is fighting over it.

The Three Factions:
1.) The merchants of Baha-char represented by Nuan Cee's clan (cute little fox people).
2.) The hope-crushing Horde represented by Otrokar (aliens that form their bodies for their jobs).
3.) The Holy Anocracy represented by House Krahr (vampires).

So needless to say, Dina's Inn is very full in this book. So she has to hire a chef to cook for all these people while she is constantly making sure Gertrude Hunt stay neutral and safe for all the new guests. The chef she hires ends up being my favorite character. Basically, he's an exiled giant porcupine, who's a former Red Cleaver chef, who is obsessed with mangoes and named Orro. I'm not really sure I have to say much more than that, but I can promise you if you read this book you, too, will fall in love with him!

This book is filled with Dina trying to keep the peace in her inn, while also trying to get all three factions to sign a peace treaty with one another. Obviously, it's no small task and has Dina constantly working with these very different clans. Some major twists and turns happen, which leaves the reader on the edge of their seat while trying to figure out all the mysteries.

Overall, I loved this installment and cannot wait for the third. Please, oh please give us Klaus in the next one. Dina needs him, and I sure as hell need to know more about him. The epilogue will probably leave you wanting more Sean, even though all I want is more Arland.

“I asked him if he was leaving anyone behind. He said he met a girl with stardust on her robe, and when he looked into her eyes, he saw the Universe looking back.”

3.) One Fell Sweep ★★★★★
Everything IA touches turns to gold, and this series is no exception. The Innkeeper Chronicles feel so cozy, yet are so action packed and have so much swoon-worthy romance. IA somehow weaves a story with the perfect balance of mystery, filled with high-tense situations, with all these unique concepts, and makes it feel like home. I can't recommend this series, or this writing duo, enough.

This series is written in weekly installments that IA posts for free. I, being the masochist that I truly am, always wait until it is actually published in book form to review, but it is still pretty freakin' awesome that this is a series that they write for their fans out of the kindness of their hearts.

Without giving too much away, and because we are three books into this series now, the first book in this series, Clean Sweep, stars a innkeeper, Dina, who runs a magical inn that allows life forms from all over the Galaxy to stay for whatever period of time they need. Not everyone has the magical gifts to be able to run their own inn, but Dina's parents owned their own inn while she was growing up, so she is very familiar with this magical safe place that is hidden away from the rest of Earth.

Innkeepers also have immense power, especially on their inn's property. On top of being able to command the house at your every whim, because you have to be able to make your guests comfortable, which means constantly changing the rooms and layout to their needs, innkeepers have the responsibility to keep their guests safe, and have a whole magical property at their disposal.

Yet, an inn's ability to thrive and live is constantly syncing with the guests that are needed for it to house. In the first book, The Innkeeper Chronicles, this is very apparent, but now that we are three books in, the inn is prospering, thriving, and very powerful.

Each book deals with a new threat to the inn, or its guests, but the constant theme of the whole series is that Dina's once innkeeper parents have gone missing. Dina keeps a picture of them on display right when you walk into her inn, no matter how the layout of the inn changes, in hopes that someone will recognize them and be able to give her information. So far, her quest results have turned up empty.

“Husbands can fall out of love. Friends can betray you. But when you’re stuck in a hellhole far from home, your family will move heaven and earth to get you back.”

But in One Fell Sweep she gets a proposition from a new alien that wishes to stay at the Gertrude Hunt for information on her parents' whereabouts that she cannot help but accept. Even if that means risking everything and everyone she loves.

And when I said everyone that Dina loves, I truly mean that, because this book introduces a few new characters that would be impossible for you not to fall in love with!:

Seriously, every hiss turned me into a bigger puddle of goo.

“I have run, my lord. And I would do it again, if the circumstances called for it. Honor can’t keep my daughter alive, but I can.”

And if you've been following my reviews of this series, you'll know that Arland is, hands down, my favorite character. (When will I grow out of my brooding vampire phase?) And seeing his character arc take a very unexpected turn made my heart melt and my ovaries swoon.

Can we also talk about how this book takes place during Christmas? Like, this book already feels magical and is impossible for the reader to not want to be staying and living in Dina's inn, but the timeline correlating with our present day was something so amazing. I couldn't help but be enthralled with this book, in this world, and with these characters once again.

“You taught me the meaning of loneliness, because when I don’t see you, I feel alone.”

Seeing Dina grow not only as an innkeeper, but as a person, is so rewarding. I cannot wait to see the direction the fourth book takes, and how Dina and Sean are going to proceed with their new information, regarding the Ripper of Souls.

IA is seriously in a league of their own for Urban Fantasy, but, honestly, they are dominating their take on Sci-Fi, too. With all the different planets and species, and then their greater message of acceptance and love with organisms that are different or misunderstood in this Galaxy, too? Then add in all their original and unique concepts. Like, this wife and husband writing duo are such a blessing to the literary world. #blessed

4.5 stars

If you have not stumbled upon this series before, this book contains the first three books of the Innkeeper Chronicles by Ilona Andrews. The books center around Dina Demille who runs a quaint Victorian B&B in a small quiet town in Texas. But that's as normal as you get. Because Dina isn't your average human. She is an Innkeeper and within her domain her powers are supreme. Dina's purpose is to revitalize her Inn with guests and find her missing parents.

description

Of course nothing goes exactly to plan and Dina's empathy and need to help usually lands her in tricky situations. With an impressive assortment of sidekicks including a serial murderer guest, a werewolf and a vampire, Dina handles everything that comes her way with aplomb, steely determination and absolute confidence in herself.

If, you are like me and you couldn't resist reading the Innkeeper Chronicles in it's serial form then you've already read all three books in this first volume. Reading them in serial format was the highlight of my week and I looked forward to each installment avidly. Re-reading all 3 stories in one long book was purely delightful for me. I re-read the first one in a day with almost the same greediness and thirst I had when reading it for the first time. I still got irrationally upset with George and wanted to smack him in the second one and I still cried buckets for the Hiru in the third one. Ilona Andrews have a gift of building new worlds in their books almost effortlessly and without creating huge, boring info dumps. I just absolutely adore their writing. It never fails to captivate me.

description

I got to review this in it's ebook format, obviously but I am really curious about the hardback version. I imagine it would make a very lovely gift to any loved one that is a serious fan of Ilona Andrews. I am extremely disappointed though as the beautiful images that accompanied some of the chapters when it was shared online, are black and white in this ebook version. I don't know if that is an error on my copy from NetGalley (it has happened before) or if its on purpose. If it's on purpose then it's a crying shame as the originals are so beautiful and vivid in colour. Much more striking in my opinion than in black and white. If you are planning on purchasing the hardcover version make sure it's in colour, I would. The black and white illustrations do have their own charm but in my opinion they do the artist a great disservice as her play with colours and shades is quite beautiful in the originals I saw. I reviewed each book separately when they came out in their serial format. My second and third reviews are mostly visual, I used images for each chapter as it was released. In the third book review I used one of the illustrated images direct from the website , it's in colour so you can check it out and see what I mean if you want : Chapter 11 Part 2 https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

To sum up, I love this new world and it's stars to bits. Something about them speaks to me and I cannot wait to see what comes next. And I know if they do a fourth one as an online serial, I would still read it weekly instead of waiting for it to be finished. I cannot resist!

Note: Geralyn from SubPress here: four of the illustrations will be in color in the limited edition. The rest will be in black and white, and they will be full page illustrations.

P.S. It occurred to me much later (thank you brain) that I should have just added the image instead, so here it is: Maud and Helen!

Second read, graphic audio, December 2023
I loved these books much much more this second time around.

Original review (with slight modifications) below
**************************************

I’d like to thank @SubPress for this ARC provided via Netgalley, in exchange for an honest opinion.

Actual rating : 3.5 stars

The Innkeeper Chronicles is a voluminous omnibus of 3 already published books : Clean Sweep, Sweep in Peace and One Fell Sweep. I was very excited for this one, being an unconditional lover of the Kate Daniels series and of the Andrews’ storytelling and humor. It wasn't on the same level as my favorite UF series of all times. This doesn't mean I didn't enjoy it, I definitely did, immensely! But it made me occasionnally roll my eyes and I'll explain why below.

Most of the action takes place in Gertrude Hunt, a seemingly ordinary but quaint, B&B. Dina is an innkeeper with incredible magical powers on the inn’s grounds and her mission is to accommodate and protect alien hosts from all over the galaxy, while keeping their existence secret to Muggles, eh I mean earthlings !
We had only two concerns : keeping our guests safe and keeping them hidden. We stayed neutral and we didn’t get involved.

All the stunning illustrations included in this review belong to Doris (Disanthus.com), who made the covers and art of the 3 books.

Intrigued ? Well you definitely should be because despite some flaws, this book was a weird and fascinating mixture of fantasy, Sci-Fi, Paranormal and Urban Fantasy, juggling myths, magic, futuristic and alien technologies and extraterrestrial and mythological creatures (with a special mention for the vampires and werewolves representation here).

I won't review each installment individually, since I might end up spoiling some details so I'll rather list the things I absolutely loved and those that worked less for me.

Awesome stuff

✓ The story was gripping and kept me intrigued until the last page. It was filled with humor and absurd situations and amazing secondary characters : Caldenia and her creepy and sarcastic observations, Orro and his Shakespearean-drama, Helen, both cute and disturbing…

"Sometimes to stop something this terrible, you have to do something equally terrible in return at a great personal cost, and that terrible thing can’t be done by one of the principals in this conflict. They must be able to walk away clean."

✓ The worldbuilding was one of the most interesting I ever read and though most of the story took place on Earth, the book introduced us to numerable planets from different galaxies (with a distinct Star Wars touch). The places and creatures inhabiting them were vivid and colorful and larger than life(special mention for Baha –Char, the “galactic bazaar”)!

✓ The inn !!! This was one of the most brilliant, fascinating and fun places I visited in fiction! Vaguely reminiscent of Hogwarts with its secrets and auto-remodeling abilities, the inn is almost a character in its own right!

Without guests, it would fall dormant trying to conserve energy and when that happened, an inn decayed and fell apart just like any other house.

✓ The artwork: The illustrations included in this book were a great bonus ! They were absolutely gorgeous and gave an accurate idea about how the characters and some places should look like.

Stuff that didn't work for me

The romance was a letdown for me. I love the way the Andrews usually weave their romances but here I didn't feel much chemistry. The first premises came out of nowhere and the rest of it was more awkward than charming.

Some flashbacks stories were totally pointless. It made the story (and my mind at the same time) wander and didn’t add anything relevant to the story or the characters’ background or development.

The writing wasn't perfect. While the storytelling was good, the writing had a lot of flaws: lots of repetitions, info dump and insane amounts of description made me fast-forward at times. The metaphors and comparisons weren’t always very well turned neither. One reason is probably the fact that the Andrews started writing this story as a fun experience, publishing a few chapters online every week. Consequently, no changes could be made once those chapters were released. Too bad because with more editing and modifications, this book would have been absolutely great.

The male characters ! LOL Well actually I don’t really have an issue with them, more with the way they are described. I feel like the UF genre is afflicted with the same stereotypes. Male characters need to be handsome and attractive, half of them bordering on beautiful, the others hot and muscled and almost invincible...

Dina’s magic seems unlimited when she’s on the inn’ grounds. There is no explanation as how it works and there is always the right magic tool or magic ability to each dreary situation.

“I asked him if he was leaving anyone behind. He said he’d met a girl with stardust on her robe, and when he looked into her eyes, he saw the universe looking back.”

Conclusion
I was pretty conflicted about this book! Though I really enjoyed it, I just couldn’t overlook the flaws I mentioned which made the read equally frustrating and enthralling! Lovers of KD, don't go into this book expecting the same amount of sass and emotions but know however that you'll come across some of the most creative and engaging settings and a bunch of interesting and funny characters. I’m so looking forward to the next installments because the series has a lot of potential !

Received the Arc via Netgalley from Subterranean Press in exchange for an honest review.

Dear Traveller! Welcome to the lovely Gertrude Hunt Inn B&B, in the town of Red Deer, Texas.
A perfect place to rest and relax, where your every need will be catered to by your caring Innkeeper, Dina Demille. Walk around the lovely, shady orchard; sit on the porch; sip a glass of lemonade in company of the gentle, aristocratic lady, permanent resident of the Inn & most wanted, killer tyrant of the universe (addicted to FunYun and YelloMello) and taste the unparallelled gastronomic wonders created by the in-house chef: a giant, hedgehog-like creature with claws and fangs & and a penchant for high drama & temper tantrums that would make Gordon Ramsay hide in the furthest hole of our galaxy in shame.

Besides the Inn’s unique capability of self-defense, security level is heightened by the presence of an alpha-strain werewolf. Entertainment for ladies is provided by the occasional appearance of a heartthrob, chivalric vampire warrior who, when drunk on coffee, gets all his clothes off and runs around the garden in the nude. When sober, same vampire may offer physical exercise to gentlemen and ladies(!) in the form of hand-to-hand combat and sword fighting.

Normally I don’t do gushing, not even in my 5-star ratings, but OMG, I LOVED EVERY SINGLE PAGE of this book (a 3-in-1 Omnibus, formerly published as #1 Clean Sweep, #2 Sweep in Peace and #3 One Fell Sweep) and it catapulted Ilona Andrews right to the front row of my favourite authors.

From page one I fell hook, line and sinker for the story and the characters, especially the Inn, Gertrude Hunt, itself. She is every woman’s dream: self-defending, self-cleaning, self-decorating with an underground storage for unwanted rooms and with doors opening to the most renown intergalatical market and other planets. From now on she is my best-loved literary character to whom noone can compare.

description

The other MC, Dina, the Innkeeper, as a caregiver and homemaker kind of person, is very relatable to me. At the same time she is smart, resourceful and compassionate.

As the story progresses, all characters are fleshed out and given depth. Nobody is perfect, just black or white. Everyone has a dark(er) side, yet none of them are purely evil. Reading the books in 1 go made their development even more pronounced.

The world-building is great: detailed, but not overwhelming. The romance is very appealing, but not heavy and it does not, at any point, hijack the narrative. The mix of political intrigue & action scenes is very well balanced and throughout there is the trademark wry humour with emotionally highly touching moments. Book #1 was just a little bit slow to start but I had so much fun while things got into motion that I did not mind. The story arcs of books #2 and #3 were awesome and had me on edge the whole time.
Also, if it is possible to enhance the effects this book already has on the reader, there is beautiful artwork to go with the stories drawn by artist Doris Mantair.

The rest of the major characters – Caldenia, Arland, George, Orro, Maud - were delightful, I loved them all to bits. I also happened to think about a list of actors who would be ideal to play the parts, should the book be turned into a movie/TV series some time. You are welcome to differ and make suggestions! :)

Anyone that knows the writing greatness that is the duo Ilona Andrews knows that when you open up on of their stories you are in for a treat.

I am so glad I read these three books as a whole because it would have been so hard to wait until each new one was released and of course, after finishing the third, I'm already anxious for the fourth.

Andrews gave us a treat in this series. It is a bit of something different, something other, a bit of something dangerous, and a bit of something completely all its own and I just couldn't get enough of it.

I loved the play on the “traditional” versions of supernatural species with a whole new twist and spin and then the whole sci fi aspect, which admittedly doesn't usually work for me, but so did in this series. I truly had so much fun with it and I want more.

I was so excited to read this, after all the rave reviews I have seen for this author, but for me I just couldn't get into it. I tried multiple times, but I found the writing to be a little to cheesy for my tastes. Not much was explained adequately, and while some aspects were original, much of the novel quickly delved into the mundane. Don't think I will read this author again.

The Innkeeper Chronicles is a series that Ilona and Gordon Andrews initially posted on their blog as a free serial then, when each story is complete, it is fully edited, additional material may be added and it is released as a self published book. Subterranean Press has since released this beautiful, limited edition, signed hardback containing the first three books in the series: Clean Sweep, Sweep in Peace and One Fell Sweep. At around 760 pages this is a massive hardback full of gorgeous illustrations from Doris Mantair (in both colour as well as black and white) that make it a fantastic collectors item.

As a huge fan of this series I immediately preordered my copy of this hardback as soon as it went on sale and I love finally having a signed book by Ilona and Gordon in my collection! I love all of their books but I think the Innkeeper Chronicles is possibly their most creative series yet. The idea of the Innkeepers is just brilliant and I love Dina and the family she has created for herself. I expect most people looking at this hardback will already be fans of the series and I can confirm you won't regret making this purchase. If you're new to the series you can also buy each story individually but you really should snap this up while copies are still available, there are only 750 of them available and once they're gone they're gone forever.

The photos below show you the gorgeous illustrations you'll find inside the book, I think most of these have already been shared on Ilona and Gordon's blog and in the previously published versions of the books but it was great to see them again and I particularly loved the glossy colour images. It's great to see the characters brought to life.

This is a collection of the first three books that the authors bravely serialised on their blog. Yes I do think it was brave because fans could comment, critique and generally say how they thought things should go. Now obviously this talented duo had a lot of fun writing these stories because why else would they continue to virtually give away their work for free? So the joy for me as a reader is seeing these books published but with a little tarting up as the stories are fleshed out and perhaps given a more grown up feel.
Expect to be amazed by Dina in Clean Sweep as she tackles unwanted visitors to her neighbourhood with just her trusty broom and a very sentient Inn. Plus as well as trying to remain unnoticed whilst repeatedly fighting off hungry aliens there's also the little matter of a werewolf and a vampire who both seem more than a little interested in Dina!
Sweep in Peace brings favourite characters back to the Inn but boy is Dina in a bind. Playing host to a peace summit that's anything but peaceful proves to be very problematic indeed. Vicious Vampires, the vengeful Horde and crafty Merchants all fighting over the paradox that is Nexus clash continually so it's going to take some nifty footwork from Dina if everyone is to survive .
One Fell Sweep is the culmination of these stories as Dina finally finds family. Missing parents, an absent brother and yet with a little help from a cheeky werewolf and a wily vampire Dina is finally reunited with her sister and niece ( expect cuteness overload! ). For most authors that might be enough drama but here's were this duo prove just how magical their writing is. A guest requests sanctuary from enemies determined to wipe out their entire race and their payment just might help Dina reunite with her parents. Unfortunately those in pursuit don't care who they hurt and an epic siege begins that just might be the end of the Inn.,
These stories are simply incredible and the imagination that combines the paranormal with sci fi simply leaves me in awe. The central characters grow with each book and there's fun as newer characters start to appear. Plus if you are already a fan then you will spot characters from a previous series but my lips are sealed ! Danger, action and romance and with the authors set to revisit this series at a later date then this book with its illustrations is the perfect way to get caught up.
This voluntary opinion is of a copy I've read with no requirement for a review. These thoughts and comments are my honest and I believe fair opinion

Volume one of the Innkeeper Chronicles, comprised of books one through three in the series, starts out with a bang and ends with a whimper -- of pain. Because this story is far from over.

With an incredible cast of characters, creatures and creativity, Andrews drops us into a world with aliens, far away planets, sentient bed & breakfasts, vampires, and werewolves, oh my. Innkeepers man waystations on earth, neutral space for guests, visitors, and all and any manner of people needing sanctuary; at the discretion of the innkeeper.

Dina runs Gertrude Hunt and the lifestyle is in her blood for she's the daughter of innkeepers. Unfortunately her parents vanished without a trace, along with their inn, and it's been years with no word, no sign and no understanding as to why. Their absence haunts her and she's waiting for the day someone walks into her inn with news of them. Her brother still searches the galaxy for them, her sister married a vampire and moved to another world, and Dina's settled in a small quiet town called Red Deer, Texas. Life was pretty much the same every day, with her inn playing host to a well-known and very sought-after tyrannical aristocrat responsible for the deaths of millions -- but at least she's paid for a lifetime membership -- until a werewolf starts sniffing around her place, dogs start dying violently, and a vampire Lord Marshal shows up to investigate. And really.. it all goes downhill (except, actually uphill) from there.

Nothing will ever compare to the Kate Daniels series for me, it's definitely more layered and complex and with a far more appealing and engaging heroine, but nonetheless Andrews offers up clever plots, hilarious dialogue and some lovely crossover in their Innkeeper Chronicles series with a lot of nuance and meaning in their alien conflicts. The illustrations really brought the elements of these stories to life, even if I pictured certainly people (Sean!) differently. And I definitely wanted more of them.

Can't wait for what's next for Dina and Sean (and Arland and Maud and Helen and Caldenia and..)!

CLEAN SWEEP -- four stars
SWEEP IN PEACE -- three and a half stars
ONE FELL SWEEP -- four stars
-------
overall volume = four stars

I was lucky to have received a copy for my birthday this year. I'm No. 422!
It's sooooooooooo beautiful in my hands!!!
Hubs rocked it outta the park and I lurve him hard for it ;)
I followed the subsequent (PG) stories online through the author's website after falling in love with book 1 Clean Sweep.
Then I reread them ALL after I got my hands on the ebook editions!

The Innkeeper Chronicles was my first introduction to the magical writing duo of Ilona Andrews.
It's world building and overall plot was mesmerizing and intriguing. Even the inn, Gertrude Hunt, has personality! The writing was sophisticated and smooth. The characters have depth and yet are so very relatable. The action is perfectly, breathlessly paced. Here's a link to my reread review of book 1: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...

I cannot recommend this series more highly than my NEED of my reading heart to own this signed, limited edition work in my personal library. Squeeeee for me. And I am NOT going to lend it out. Ever. #sorrynotsorry

Edit Update: Attended Magic Triumphs book signing in Sept. 2018 (Schulers Books) and had this book signed A G A I N by the authors. #fangirling #OMSqueeee

Yep, I bought the Subtenarrean Press hardcover edition.

And yep, I already own and read all Innkeeper Chronicles books in e-book format, and enjoy them all.

My review for Clean Sweep : https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
For Sweep in Peace : https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
For One Fell Sweep :https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

I'm glad that my local bookstore (I live in Indonesia, anyway), have this book available to ordered. I had knew the Subtenarrean version, first from Andrews's blog, and then Subtenarrean site. I'm hesitant at first to buy because, first the price is expensive. No joke, since its format is hardcover and look luxurious. But, it's not the book price that make me go and fro, to buy or not to buy. It's the shipping, that cost almost as much as the book price itself. After I discovered that Periplus, the local book store that I mentioned above have this edition with affordable price, without me to feel worried about shipping, I didn't hesitant to order.

And I'm so happy to receive this book a month after that! :D

I will write a review again, but more like doing a re-read. My edition is numbered 522, so I guess, I'm one of the lucky 700, lol XD. I believe Subtenarrean Press still have it, and its also available in Amazon. For overseas readers like me, don't be fret, Bookdepository have it too! You will ask, "why if you had read all the e-book version, you still buy it?". Trust me, dear readers, you will love to hold this hardcover edition, and will throw your money to at least get one!

Three days and 766 pages of pure entertainment: Ilona Andrews, you goddess!

Between Hidden Legacy, The Edge, and now the glory that was The Innkeeper Chronicles I have officially forgiven you for Kate Daniels.

This was just so good! Vampires, werewolves, orcs, galactic politics, vicious wars, unsolved mysteries, many malevolent monstrosities, and a little romance all centered around a humble innkeeper in small town Texas.

Give me a thousand more pages, I’ll devour them.

Special thanks to Subterranean Press for crafting this gorgeous special edition. I received copy 623/750 signed by both authors.

Only I would jump on a chance to read these three books as a volume while having them seperately and read them already. I can re-read every series of these authors and never get tired. I forgot how much I've enjoyed the series and characters. Each book we see Dina grow more and more as an Innkeeper and we see her develop into an amazing person.

I think for people of magic lovers, beautiful world building, humor and bad assery in general should give this series a go. Each book gets us closer and closer to what Dina whats to know the most. We get to see her set into this journey with Sean Evans, werewolf extraordinare and they fit well together.

I don't have the words, just the power to point that way --> go buy the book. You'll make my day!

For once, I think my impatience has finally borne fruit. When Ilona Andrews was releasing this chapter by chapter, I just couldn’t do it. I tried to faithfully read it each time it was posted, but despite my love of all things Andrews, I just don’t have the patience. After each chapter I just wanted to keep reading, find out what happens next and yet, I just had the one chapter. So, I gave up and was going to hoard them like a dragon with gold and read them at once. Which, is where the Innkeeper Chronicles and impatience being a virtue comes in. Because voila, I had not just one, but a trilogy of Clean Sweep novellas to read.

And read I did. At length. Without pause. After all that time waiting, I devoured the Innkeeper Chronicles in one sitting, I literally couldn’t put it down. I wanted to see what happened next, see what new complicated and fascinating dilemma would arrive at the Gertrude Hunt Inn for Dina to contend with. As usual the Andrews put me under their spell.

What I loved about the Innkeeper Chronicles was its mixture of fantasy and sci-fi. Everything all looks a little bit like magic and yet Vampires are aliens, Werewolves were genetically engineered and Dina has a lab in her basement. And yet it all mishmashes together create this perfect blend of wonder and adventure where you’re never quite sure what will pop up next and yet you know you will keep reading to find out.

For romance lovers, like me, there is also a dash of it in this book. Andrews gives feeds you just enough for you to be hungry for more. The romance aspect mixed with imagination, adventure and Dina herself makes this book a must read. So, if you want to lose yourself in something new and exciting, pick up the Innkeeper Chronicles and dive in. You may find your day completely hijacked, but it is well worth it.

P.S.

Also, for those of you, like me, who have read everything that Andrews has published, you will recognise a few characters from her series The Edge. If you haven’t read the series, I recommend that you do, although it isn’t essential to the understanding of this book.

Thank you to NetGalley and Subterranean Press for a copy of this in exchange for an honest review.

These stories have a lot of humor and a lot of heart. I would often read funny passages aloud to my husband, and he giggled along with me. There is a bit of romance, but it is not the focus of any book (there is no over-the-top hand-wringing angst, which I tired of in a lot of other UF series. I never wanted to smack Dina upside the head, bonus). But the real stars of the series are the characters. The cranky and overly-dramatic porcupine-like chef, the bloodthirsty, calculating yet charming Caldenia, requisite vampires and werewolves that somehow don’t fall into the usual pitfalls of those beings, the adorable Shih-tzu that guards the Inn, and the Inn itself – Gertrude Hunt is a mysteriously sentient being in her own right. Bottom line: if you enjoyed the Scooby gang vibe in Buffy or the found-family feels in Firefly or Guardians of the Galaxy, you will dig these books. Heartfelt and delightful are the words that most often spring to my mind.

*ARC received from NetGalley*

This review is going to be a little different than most in that it's for a specific edition/binding. This limited edition of 750 signed and numbered copies is only available from Subterranean Press here for $75.00. Once they are gone that's it I'm afraid. If you are a book collector or avid fan of this husband and wife writing team you will want this very special edition all done up with original artwork both inside and out by Doris Mantair.
The Innkeeper Chronicles Volume One collects Clean Sweep, Sweep In Peace, and One Fell Sweep which record the adventures of one not-so-average bed and breakfast innkeeper, Dina. You'll find your vampires and werewolves in here like with most good urban fantasy, but in this series their origins are usually not on our planet. The books are also available individually through most bookstores if you are new to this series or are not a collector.
I never got to read these books when the authors were putting them up a chapter a week on their site so it's really nice to have them available in book form. I still stayed away from the individual books because the covers and the whole "innkeeper" thing kept making me think of castles, knights, and outdoor plumbing. As irony would have it there are knights in these books, space vampire knights! Now that I've read them I can't believe it took me so long, I mean I should've known better then to doubt the authors of the Kate Daniels series. If you still aren't sure you can find the first three chapters of each book on the Innkeeper Chronicles website.

This three volume set was on sale recently and I binged the whole thing. Dina and Sean's romance was gradual which was appropriate for two people (or one Innkeeper, one Werewolf) who needed to figure out who they were individually before they made sense as a couple. The playful imagining of other species was wonderful, especially touching were the Hiru in One Fell Sweep. Most of all I think that these stories about a strong, smart, woman whose magic blossoms within the confines of her house and who is dedicated to caring for whoever is in it that really resonates during Lockdown.

I was already a fan of the author team's Kate Daniels series and then discovered they had a whole lot more for me to love when I took up this series next. I had never encountered such a fun, exciting blend of Urban Fantasy and Sci-Fi Romance that balanced a complex and layered group of elements so well. There is literally something for everyone.

What utterly fascinated me about this volume of stories is that it has its origins (and continues to do so) as a series of on-line installments on the authors' blog. I would have never guessed this was a plot on the fly serial piece. Unlike regular novel writing, there are no second chances when you write yourself into a corner. Talk about sheer talent, right?

The world of The Innkeeper Chronicles is probably one of the most captivating I've encountered. You don't get many sentient inter-dimensional inns or heroines who are innkeepers in the sci-fi and UF world, but it really is a perfect launch pad for a colorful, action-packed intense series. The inn is a way station at a cross roads for other worlds and other dimensions allowing for myriads of adventures and stories.

That said, there are foundation elements that drive the series arc. Dina is the center of everything. The reader is introduced to her as the main character in Clean Sweep. Several facts are learned about her namely that she is a second generation innkeeper (which is much more complex role than it seems at first glance) and as an adult she is still dealing with the tragic disappearance of her parents and the loss of her two siblings when they scattered into the galaxy pursuing their own goals. But, Dina is a mystery in and of herself. She is slowly revealed as the series progresses. Her personality, motives, and actions begin to make better sense as it goes along. Dina needs to be in control after all that came before which she could not control and this drives everything. Through her encounters with Sean and others, she is faced with her issues and must either learn to let other people into her heart and let them help her or go it alone and likely fail.

Sean the werewolf is a great catalyst for making things happen and also the source of several exciting fight and battle scenes. And, oh, by the way, he is one sexy male that Dina definitely find irresistible and believe me, she tries. He had no idea about his own race and his nature so he's learning as he goes. He has the job of finding himself and also getting through Dina's emotional barriers so she'll trust him and let him partner her in their adventures.

Beyond Sean, Dina is surrounded by a colorful and eclectic cast of characters. There is Caldenia the permanent guest at the inn because she is the galaxy's Public Enemy Number One for her bloody and numerous exploits. The way she views the world makes me laugh in that uneasy sort of way that apex predators can cause when they are perfectly series about their cannibalistic and homicidal tendencies. Then there is Dina's dog, Beast, who is a lot more than she seems. Officer Morace, the hardworking put upon human cop who just knows there is something odd going on at the Gertrude Hunt B&B and he will get to the bottom of it thank you very much. Arlan the devilishly handsome vampire marshal of his clan who lives to fight like the berserker vikings of old. A drama-llama alien chef who panics if he has to serve a meal late (and whatever you do, don't mention the 'P' word as in poison around him). And let's not forget the Inn itself needing guests vitally so it will flourish.

The three books, Clean Sweep, Sweep in Peace, and One Fell Sweep, in this first volume offer three exciting and action-packed adventures. Each is more furious and compelling than the last. The first book has the job of introducing the world, the characters, and the series arc though it also presents and exciting adventure, book two picks up a little while later after the dust settles and Dina is faced with quite the challenge hosting a peace summit between three combative groups with warring agendas and a negotiator who has his own end-game going. Book three finally showcases some of Dina's family, a new lethal challenge for Dina to protect her guests that forces Dina to confront some personal nightmares as well.

There is mystery, humor, camaraderie, and romance packed in around the excitement. I just love when things get so dire that I have no idea how Dina and the rest will pull out a win, but then it happens in a fantastic twist leaving me breathless after tearing through the pages like a mad-woman.

On a side note, I noticed that this volume is a 'hardcover limited edition', but I read an electronic ARC so I'm uncertain what features are added beyond a page of remarks from the author about the origin of the series, the three stories themselves, and each story separated by the fantastic cover art for each book.

All in all, this is an abso-fab creative, action-packed, humorous, mysterious, and entirely delightful Urban Fantasy- Sci-Fi blend that I whole-heartedly recommend to others who are looking for a new series to love.

I rec'd this book from Net Galley in exchange of an honest review.

I received a copy of this book from Net Galley in exchange for an honest review.

Husband and wife authors Ilona Andrews are simply the crème de la crème of the blended Paranormal Romance and Urban Fantasy genres. And they are generous to a fault with their readers. The Innkeeper stories all stem from a long-running series of free stories posted chapter by chapter on their blog. (When these busy authors find time sleep is a mystery to me.) At the end of each of the serialized stories, the authors polish up the story, add a bit of a more adult twist, and release it in book format, for those who simply cannot stand the suspense of waiting for story installments. It's important to realize that the books do have some changes, along with smoothing that make them worth buying/rereading, even if you've read the serialized version on their blog. They've gifted us with the Innkeeper world for about four years now and, rumor has it, a fourth Innkeeper story will start making its way to the blog in late 2017 or early 2018.

This volume, which comprises the first three Innkeeper books along with some of the beautiful illustrations blog readers will remember, allows the reader to enjoy a host of new characters like Dina, Caldenia, Sean, Orro, Arland, Helen, and Maud, while renewing your acquaintance with some favorite characters from the authors' Edge series, George, Jack, Sophie, Gaston and Klaus, all of whom get into just as much trouble as they did in the Edge world.

With a deft touch, Ilona Andrews can make even a predictable outcome the most entertaining of adventures (it's about the journey, not just the destination!) and they do so with their trademark brio and humor in these three books. This is a great opportunity to enjoy a delightful series.

I am completely smitten with this series. Getting to binge read it all in one go was AWESOME. From Dina's first run-in with the local alpha-strain werewolf to learning the ins and outs of the magic the Inn was capable of to tangling with intergalactic vampires (of a sort), I am so eager to see who and what they'll encounter next.

(and if there's not going to be any more adventures, don't tell me. I prefer to live in blissful ignorance.)

To say that Dina's still learning what lengths she and her Inn are willing to go to to protect those under her care (even if it's only temporary) is pretty accurate. Although, perhaps it would be better to say she's learning her strengths as she goes. She's WILLING to do practically anything for those in her keeping, but sometimes the will is greater than her abilities. Or so she thinks. It doesn't stop her from trying, though, and that's a huge part of what makes her so intriguing.

With fantastic sci-fi elements blended with urban fantasy and flat-out magic (This is a badly constructed sentence that doesn't accurately illustrate the blending of genres, but...IT'S JUST SO FUN AND WELL DONE!), I am 100% down for anything Dina and her crew get involved in down the road. Bring it on!

Fangirls - and boys; rejoice!

The Innkeeper Chronicles Volume 1 is a must-buy for Ilona Andrews fans. Not only does it contain all three novels released to date, on top of that it's a visually stunning book. You'll find lovely artwork of Dina, Sean and Caldenia scattered throughout the novel, like little gems from Baha-char.

I can only assume this book will be on the wish list of several fans who have already read the standalone novels; either in the serialized version or the finished product. But for those who haven't read this amazing series, this is the perfect time to take the plunge and purchase the entire series. I mean; who doesn't like space faring vampires, werewolves without a planet to call their own, former galactic tyrants or the innkeeper who welcomes them into Gertrude Hunt - and sometimes even into her own heart;-)

I thought that was graphic novel of the series but it wasn't. But because this series is one of my favorite, I read my favorite parts again. I really liked the world, the characters and events. Especillay third book is my beloved one. I read some of this author's works before but this is my favorite so far. Waiting for the next one is really hard, I'm looking forward to 4th book, really excited for it!

I read Clean Sweep back in January of this year and found it to another winner from Ilona Andrews. I decided to stop with the Innkeeper Chronicles after learning there would be crossover characters from another Andrews Series that would be appear in Sweep in Peace. After I came across this three-book volume on NetGalley, I couldn’t request it fast enough. I have spent the last year becoming obsessed with all things Andrews. I easily devoured this large volume in only a few days. It is the perfect balance of humor, action, and world building. I would recommend it to any PNR or UF fan.

Clean Sweep – 4 STARS
It didn’t take long for me to become completely invested in Dina and her interesting world. As an innkeeper, she possesses magic, but her magic is tied to her inn. Even more unique is that the guests of the inn are strictly otherworldly. There are the usual vampires and werewolves, but they are alien! Yes, it is as quirky and fun as it sounds. It’s a completely new spin on the old paranormal world. There is a lively supporting cast, and my favorite is definitely Sean. The banter and chemistry between he and Dina is intense. The romance is not the focus, but just enough to make you want it desperately. Arland was my least favorite person, but his comedic banter with Sean were some of my favorite moments.

“According to my research, in a vampire-werewolf love triangle, the vampire always gets the girl.”

This was everything I expect from an Andrews book; strong and lovable heroine, a tad of romance with the slowest of burn, interesting supporting cast, and unique world building. I can’t wait to see what lies ahead for Dina and the inn.

Sweep in Peace – 3.5 STARS
This was my least favorite book of the three. I wanted desperately to see The Edge cast, and once they arrived, I missed the focus being on Dina and Sean. I was heartbroken Sean was gone for a significant portion of the book. The dynamics I enjoyed most in Clean Sweep just weren’t there. This is more intense and somewhat darker, not that I minded, but it just felt different. Orro was my favorite new character, and I adored his snarky attitude. Despite a few minor issues, the end left me wanting to start book 3 right away.

“I’ve decided that I would rather live for a few moments every few weeks than try to deny my nature.”

*I recommend reading The Edge Series first, IF you don’t like spoilers and want to learn the full background of supporting characters that appear. It’s definitely not necessary, but I’m glad to have read them prior to this book. *

One Fell Sweep – 4 STARS
This one is more inline with Clean Sweep, and I enjoyed it immensely. There are plenty of Dina/Sean moments, and their relationship finally progresses. I was grinning constantly with these two.

He was my wolf, half in the light, half in the shadow.

Of course, there is plenty of Arland and Sean banter; they are one of my favorite frenemies. Arland really grew on my throughout the books, and I found myself looking forward to his scenes. There are new characters, like Dina’s sister Maud, to keep the storyline fresh and entertaining. It is the most action packed and intense of the three.

If you plan to buy this series, the complete volume is the way to go. In addition to the book, there’s also gorgeous artwork inspired from the book. It is stunning, and I really enjoyed having visuals on certain characters.

Volume I ends in a good place, but the story is far from over. Andrews has confirmed there is more to come from this world. I cannot wait for the next adventures from Innkeeper Chronicles

Clean Sweep is the first installment in author's Ilona Andrews The Innkeeper Chronicles. Dina DeMille is an Innkeeper, part of a magical race who offers safe haven to intergalactic travelers who are visiting foreign realms, in Red Deer, Texas, just like her parents, Gerard, and Helen, who disappeared without a trace while she was in college. When her parents disappeared, she lost everything and had to start over in Texas. Her brother Klaus decided to be a traveler, her older sister Maud chose to marry a vampire. Dina chose to walk the same path as her parents by asking the Assembly for her own Inn which was granted.
