Kim vs the Mean Girl

Rate this book
High school sophomore, Kim Long, is no stranger to the “mean girl” antics of Queen Bee Hannah Marshak. When Hannah steals Kim’s diary and in front of the entire class reads personal (not to mention humiliating) entries Kim wrote about her crush, Jonathan, Kim vows to enact revenge.

Kim and her loyal best friend, Bridget, come up with the perfect plan to put the evil Hannah in her place once and for all. But will their scheming have the desired effect of getting even, or will Hannah emerge more celebrated by her peers than ever?

Kim vs. The Mean Girl can be read as a young adult standalone novel, but it is also a prequel to the popular Blogger Girl adult romantic comedy series and is set in 2000. Told in the dual perspectives of teenage Kim and Hannah, fans of the series will get an inside look into Kim’s early passion for reading, writing (and Jonathan) and find out why Hannah is so darn mean.

"In Blogger Girl we meet the irrepressible Kim Long and her nemesis Hannah Marshak. Kim Vs. the Mean Girl takes us back to high school with Kim and Hannah 101 in this delightful prequel. I gobbled it up in one byte…er, I mean bite (this is the era before a cell phone was in every backpack). When Kim declares war on Hannah, it takes some unexpected, and at times amusing, turns, and though the enemies don’t emerge as friends, or even frenemies, they each come away the better for it. A fun read for all ages." Eileen Goudge, New York Times best-selling author

OMG - I loved this book! I feel in love with Kim and Hannah in Blogger Girl, and my feelings for the characters intensified in Novelista Girl. But I always did wonder what really happened in high school....

Even if you have never read any of the books in the series, you shouldn't miss out on this one! Perfect as a standalone, this contemporary young adult novel grabs your attention from the first page to the last. I laughed, I cried, I gasped. It was amazing to be transported back into high school in the year 2000! I loved the fact the book was told in both Kim & Hannah's perspectives.

Only problem is I want more.. I really hope there is another Kim Long book in the works :)

I didn't intend to write a YA novel, but I'm so very glad I did. I loved every minute of the process and became so connected to the characters of Kim and Hannah that they almost felt like my daughters. I truly hope the book will be embraced, not only by fans of the Blogger Girl series, but by readers who love a humorous and heartfelt stand-alone contemporary young adult novel. Please let me know what you think. I love hearing from readers :)

Light fiction that will make you smile.

I loved Blogger Girl and was excited to find out more from before. This is a great stand-alone young adult novel as well as a prequel to the Blogger Girl series. It took me back to my teen years with so many relatable incidents and characters.

If you've read the Blogger Girl series, make sure you read this. If you haven't, then read them all.

What a fun read! I loved Kim in Blogger Girl and it is fun to go back in time and see what life was like for Kim going to high school with Hannah. It really did play out just the way that I thought in would in my mind.
Hannah has always been a bully of sorts and her behavior when she was younger doesn't shock anyone. Towards the end I really think she started to see Kim in a whole new light. Could even be a fun second book starting point!
From Hannah stealing her diary and telling the entire class her inner most secrets to Kim getting her back with the perfect revenge plan, the girls both learned a few very important lessons in life. Hannah learned that there is more to life then just money (sort of) and Kim learned that you should just let things go and ignore people who are irritating you because the more attention you give them the more they will pester you.
If you loved Blogger Girl you will love Kim vs. the Mean Girl.

I've never met a Meredith Schorr book I didn't love. The tagline for this one: The Carrie Diaries meets Mean Girls with a little Girl Meets World. Are you kidding me? SOLD! Really looking forward to revisiting Kim, Hannah, and all the woes and struggles of being a teenage girl.

I loved Meredith's other books, Blogger Girl and Novelista Girl, and getting to know Kim and her arch-enemy Hannah. Kim vs. The Mean Girl takes us back to their high school days and give us a look at their history and why they have this animosity towards each other.

The story takes place in 2000 so there are a lot of references to the culture of that time; songs, movies, television shows, that kind of thing. It was like a trip down memory lane for me and a reminder of what high school was like, all the good times, along with some of the bad.

This book is listed as Teen and Young Adult and it will definitely appeal to that age group. Set in a high school, it covers a lot of the issues that teens are dealing with; friendships, rivalries, fitting in, young love. It was also very enjoyable for me to read as well and I am way past that teen phase in my life. I had come to know and love the characters from the previous books and it was great to revisit them again. Kim vs. The Mean Girl is a well written, fun story that can be enjoyed by all.

Meredith Schorr is bringing back Kim Long and Hannah Marshak. In Kim vs. the Mean Girl we get to see how high school shaped the rivalry between these two and the lives they lived before Blogger Girl (where Kim and Hannah are grown up). This is the prequel to Blogger Girl but either book can be read first.

The high school setting was perfect. The clichés, the gossips, the cute boys, the homework, and even the family dynamic through teenage eyes are written perfectly. I have a high schooler and the thoughts, the actions, and the reactions were as I witness with my daughter and her friends. I could picture my daughter and her friends plotting against Hannah or getting google eyed over the cute boy.

While this is a YA book as a mom I really enjoyed the story. I am going to share it with my daughter and see if she enjoys it as much as I did.

Great teen story

This book is for teens in high school, loved the story of Kim and Hannah. Hannah, popular girl making Kim's life miserable. How Kim and her best friend Bridget got revenge. But in the end Kim realized it's best to just let go and let Hannah be Hannah. Hannah in the other hand found friendship with Fred, a guy she never would of noticed if Kim wouldn't of included him revenge to get back at her. Kim gets the the guy she has been in love with, thanks to Hannah.

Set in 2000, Kim Long isa tiny 10th grade nobody, the brunt of Miss Most-Popular & Mean Girl, Hannah Marshak. When Kim and her BFF Bridget devise a plan to get back at Hannah and her crew it doesn't work out the way they planned it to.

Life lessons blend with budding romance in this YA story devoid of most of the technology we have come to expect today.

A Blogger Girl series short story.

Super fun prequel for the Blogger Girl series! :) (Good thing Blogger Girl is already on my TBR pile...)

Kim and Hannah were great adversaries (man, am I glad that I never had a nemesis like either of the girls in highschool...), and thank you especially for making Hannah not easy to hate. :)

Kim and Bridget made Blogger Girl and Novelista Girl for me, their friendship is amazing and makes for great reading, so I was intrigued to find out about them while they were in high school. Saying that, this book can definitely be read as a stand alone. But I think if you haven’t read the other 2, reading this will make you want to read them for sure! And personally I liked that I had read the adult version of them first. Its a very clever idea of the Author to write the character backwards. (Adults first, then teenagers). For many there would be too many ways to slip up, but Meredith managed this perfectly, allowing us to see how they became the adults that they did.

The story is very ‘young adult’ and high school orientated. It would make a great film. ( Think Mean Girls, but better). 😆

We get a good impression of how Kim and Hannah were brought up and this gives us a good insight of why they are as they are in Blogger Girl. I loved the plans that the girls come up with, and how we feel their high school emotions, self awareness and teenage angst. I also thought it was brilliant how we see Kim’s love for reading (and writing) while she is still in school. Mean Girl Hannah gives Kim a ‘mean compliment’ where she says:

“Kim Long without a book to read is like a dog without its chew”.

There is the usual teenage crush talk between the friends. And we even get a very surprise peek at Nicholas. ( from Blogger Girl). The Author has really got into the heads of these characters. I read an interview with Meredith where she said the girls almost felt like her daughters. So she really does cherish her characters and this shows in the deep care that Meredith gave to ensure that the characteristics given can be seen in their high school time and then how this has influenced them in their adulthood.

The Author has not only given great thought to the plot and the characters, but she also made the timeline exactly right as there are mentions of Brad and Jennifer! And Kim speaks of reading ‘The Perks of Being A Wallflower’. Meredith has thought of everything.

This was a lovely, easy read. For me, the main reason I enjoyed it was because it was a prequel to two books that I loved so much, and I had already fallen hook, line and sinker for Kim and Bridget. I think this book would appeal to teenagers, adults who like YA and everyone who loved Blogger Girl.

Meredith is a hugely talented writer, and I am eagerly awaiting her next book. 😍

As a fan of Meredith's, I was so excited to hear she was writing a YA prequel to her Blogger Girl series. While Kim vs. the Mean Girl can be read as a stand-alone, I would suggest reading the Blogger Girl series first, just because it's more fun (for me, anyway) to get to know the characters, and then read about their high school antics. But, again, you can totally read this as a stand-alone. It's a fun book either way. :)

Kim vs. the Mean Girl is such a cute book, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It took me back to my own high school days, though, thankfully, I didn't have to deal with a "mean girl" like Hannah. It was interesting to see the main characters from the Blogger Girl series as high school kids. Kim is a great character, in both this book and the others, and I would love to read more about her!

Another high point of praise I have for this book is that it helped pull me out of my month-long reading slump! I had never been through a slump like that one before, and it was getting a bit depressing. But, Kim vs. the Mean Girl totally saved me! It was short enough to not be daunting, and interesting enough to keep me from putting it down.

Well-written, humorous, and a bit nostalgic, Kim vs. the Mean Girl is an excellent addition (or introduction!) to the Blogger Girl series. It's a perfect mix of "chick-lit" and YA, and is ideal for a quick, summer read. I would definitely recommend!

This was a fun little book. After reading Blogger Girl it was fun to see where Kim and Hannah had come from, and what might have led to their hatred of each other. There were a few little sneak peaks of what was to come in Kim's life, which I absolutely adored.

It's been a few years since I last read Blogger Girl, so a reread is in order, but then I also plan to go on to Novelista Girl!

Meredith Schorr is a great writer, and her characters are always real and extremely relatable. Can't wait to finish this series!

I absolutely love the BLOGGER GIRL series and was so excited to read the YA prequel. I can't get enough of Kim and Hannah. Meredith Schorr has an incredible ability to write hilarious, relatable stories with so much depth and charm. Reading about the teenage antics of the characters I have grown to love was such a fun, insightful, delicious escape.

Even if you haven't read the BLOGGER GIRL series, KIM VS THE MEAN GIRL can be read as a stand alone. But I think anyone who reads it will want to devour every book Schorr has written.

I first met Kim and Hannah in Blogger Girl, ( and if you haven't read that yet, you should!) and always wondered what exactly had happened to make them frenemies. Kim vs. The Mean Girl takes us back to Kim and Hannah's high school days, so we can find out.

Kim Vs. The Mean Girl took me right back to high school, complete with all the drama, and the catty girls, and the first crushes. I laughed , I cried , it was wonderful. I loved every minute of it. I'm just glad I don't ever have to relive it in real life!

While you don't have to have read Blogger Girl and Novelista Girl to enjoy Kim Vs. The Mean Girl, I highly recommend doing so, the are every bit as fantastic!

I am such a fan of Meredith Schorr, and was thrilled to read her latest installment. This is a prequel to BLOGGER GIRL, another novel I highly recommend from this author, and it was simply cute and fun to read. I love that we got both sides, told in dual POV from both Kim and Hannah, and it gave us more insight on characters that I grew to love in BLOGGER GIRL. I especially enjoyed getting Hannah’s perspective and seeing what made her tick and actually a different side of her as well. I breezed through this young adult read in just over a day and would definitely recommend.
