Rob MacMathan and his brother and a friend run the White Bear Wilderness Adventures Tour, White Bear, where polar bear shifters have staked a claim. This is their last tour group of the season, but when photojournalist, Alicia Raycroft, touches Rob and envisions what he sees, though her paranormal abilities deal with psychometry, whereas he’s clairvoyant, they’re both stunned. He witnesses a fight with an enraged grizzly; she sees a polar trying to eat her, which he interprets to mean he’s wearing his polar bear coat and trying to save her. In no way can he reveal the truth to her. Yet, just that connection between them pushes them to go beyond his self-imposed boundaries with both a client and a human.Alicia is fascinated with Rob, not only because he’s rugged and handsome and just as interested in her, he intrigues her like no other man has ever done when her touching him reveals he has abilities like she has. She envisions a white bear coming for her as snow swirls about her in the Alaskan wilderness, yet she’s determined to take this trek even if it’s her last. She believes fate is predetermined and nothing she will do can change the outcome anyway. Alicia and Rob are already headed down one dangerous path, so why not risk a chance at love too? Only he has more dark secrets he’s unwilling to share.
Love, love, love romance, the paranormal, hunky Highlanders with their delicious brogue and hot kilts, so Terry Spear writes about those hunky Highlanders both in medieval times and as wolves in contemporary times. Jaguar shifters too! And young adult urban fantasy. And romantic suspense.
She grew up reading mystery, adventure, mythologies from around the world, ghost stories, the paranormal, fell in love with Dracula and Wolfman, and felt they needed loving too. Everyone should have someone to love. Which means her stories always have a HEA.
USA Today Bestseller residing in Central Texas from Sacramento, California who creates award-winning teddy bears too!
My Thoughts - 5 out of 5 Unicorns - I loved it!!! ***I choose what I read and review based on what intrigues me!!
Okay I’m not sure, but I hope this is the first in a series! I bought this book at the beginning of the month, and I loved it! Terry Spears is one of my favorite authors. I love her paranormal books! I haven’t read one yet that I didn’t completely enjoy and become absorbed in.
This book takes place in Alaska. Alicia and Rob both have psychic abilities and add to this that Rob is a polar bear shifter. All sorts of action and romantic tension which made for an awesome read. I really like Alicia because she stands up for herself and those she cares about. She won’t sit in the background and allow things to happen. Rob is sweet and protective. I loved seeing their journey and how they came to be together.
I really hope this is a series! I can’t wait to see what Terry comes up with next! I need to get on the ball and read the other books I have by her!
I highly recommend her book to any shifter lover especially if you love bears!
It's like this book was made for me. There's romance, there's paranormal and there's polar bears ! :)
There's a lot of bear shifter books. Brown or black, but with white bear, not so much. When I ordered this one, I had read two Terry Spear's book before. By the time it arrived, I had read two more and had become a fan of her work. She wrote jaguar shifters so well, so it's cool to see she can do a good job with bear shifters too.
There's no better place to live for polar bear shifter Rob MacMathan and his relatives than in Alaska. A tour guide for the Wilderness Adventures Tour he own with his brother and their friend, Rob have a special gift, or a curse, depend on how you see it. He sometimes have visions of bad things that are about to happen, but he never knows exactly when and can't stop it from happening. Among the group for the next excursion is Alicia Raycroft, a photojournalist who also have a special ability. When she touch someone, she can sometimes see things about their past. But when she touched Rob, they suddenly shared his vision. Rob will have to find a way to protect Alicia and talk to her about what they saw without revealing his true nature.
Rob and Alicia were easy to love. Rob with his determination and kindness (and most certainly for his cute face, the human one and the furry one ;p). Alicia inquisitive and spontaneous nature, and her ability at always looking on the bright side made her the perfect mate for Rob. She accepted her new situation quickly and without drama. Her hobby in etymology made for funny and cute moments with the hero.
When Rob bring the group on a tour and talked about the fauna and flora I felt like I was on a tour with them. I delighted in reading about the facts, even if I knew them already (being nuts about polar bears mean that I read all that I can about them).
We have to be patient before seeing Rob shift but when he do, it's worth the wait.
This story lost a star because of the subplot with the ex. It just seemed too hard to believe with the coincidences and his identity. And I'm not okay with him being forgiven for what he did.
What's cuter than polar bear ? Polar bear cubs ;p so I was disappointed to not see one or two at the epilogue at least. They talked about having them but I wanted to see one frolicking in the snow.
It doesn't indicate this book is part of a series but I hope that'll change because I want to read about Edward, Casey and Ben finding their mates.
This was just a fun, paranormal romance. I enjoyed reading it, and was hooked by the storyline that included a 'psychic' connection between the polar bear shifter and a human woman. The plot moved the story along at a good pace, and allowed for the action to play out at regular intervals. While not a murder mystery, or romantic suspense novel, it was full of enough action from unexpected sources to hold my attention.
"Loving the White Bear" by Terry Spear. Book 1 in the Heart of the Bear series.
So I found this book just OK for me. I really enjoy Ms. Spear's Heart of the Wolf, Jaguar and Cougar series' so I thought I'd try this Heart of the Bear series as well. Well, Rob and Alicia's story was a little lack-luster for me. The overall story line I found interesting but I just didn't feel the love between the characters.
Alicia is a photographer going on an Alaskan wilderness tour. She's also trying to get away from her controlling ex-boyfriend. When she meets one of her tour guides, Rob, she instantly wants to touch him. Yes, he's gorgeous, but that's not the reason. She has powers that allow her to see into someone's past when she touches them. When she finally does touch him, she can't believe what she sees! She sees the future instead of the past! But that's not how her powers work. So why is Rob so different from everyone else? And why does she see a polar bear attacking her when she touched him?
Rob can't believe one of his tourist has psychic-like powers. Because he has powers too. He gets visions of the future. When Alicia touches him for the first time, he instantly gets a vision of a grizzly bear attacking him and Alicia falling into the freezing Alaskan water. Their connection is instant and both of them know something just happened between them. But Alicia is human. He's supposed to find a nice female polar bear to settle down with. Regardless of her being human, he will not let her die in the freezing water. Even if he has to expose his polar bear side in front of her.
See! The overall story sounds great. And it is. But I just didn't really feel that great a love connection between Rob and Alicia. I guess, for me, it was a little to fast. One touch and they are the loves of each others lives. I didn't really feel the chemistry between them. The story flowed well but I found the writing kind of basic. Which is really surprising because I really enjoy all of Ms. Spears' other books. I found some of the characters rambled a bit. In some places, the descriptions were really good and then others, I thought, needed more description. Also, I found the story predictable. I new at least one thing that was going to happen pretty early on in the book. For me, I think everything was just too happy in this book. The "problems" that arise are dealt with really easily. The ending of the book (which I figured out) was actually really good. That's when everything gets a little more exciting.
Also, this book is slightly connected to the Heart of the Wolf series. White wolves are mentioned in this book. Also grey wolves. So we could see a bit of a crossover in future books.
So overall, this story was just OK for me. Will I continue reading this series? Probably. I will give the second book a try and see if I will continue after that. Would I recommend this book? Yes, because this is just 'my' view of the book. You might love this book. Give it try and make up your own mind. Happy reading!
Having read Terry Spear's other shifter (cougars, jaguars, and wolves) stories, I didn't hesitate in getting "Loving the White Bear" and was really looking forward to reading it. Polar Bear shifter Rob MacMathan runs White Bear Wilderness Adventures Tours along with his brother and a friend. They're taking out the last tour group of the season which includes Alicia Raycroft and her best friend, Beth.
Alicia and Rob are drawn to each other and unbeknownst to each other, they're both psychic. Rob has visions of future events while Beth can see past events when touching an object or person. However, when Alicia touches Rob she sees what he sees. In the vision she sees herself being "eaten" by a polar bear while in the frozen water during a snow storm which puts her and Rob on alert. While on the tour, three men who are hunting illegally frighten a herd of moose when trying to kill one. In the aftermath of trying to evade the moose one of the other tourists knocks Alicia into the icy water. When Rob sees her there's only one way to save her. He has to rescue her as a polar bear and turn her because she's been in the water too long and they couldn't get her warmed up in time to save her. As an added bonus, now that Alicia's a bear, Rob can explore his feelings for her.
"Loving the White Bear" runs a gamut of emotions and Terry does each of them excellently. I cheered for Rob and Alicia, teared up in places and laughed in others. Terry's written a wonderful story that draws you in from the beginning and keeps your interest throughout the story. There's also a surprise when someone from both Rob's and Alicia's past turns out to be the same person. I thoroughly enjoyed reading "Loving the White Bear" and highly recommend it. I'm looking forward to a sequel.
This book just draws you in. The characters are engaging and the story has a good flow. I will admit this is one of my favorite authors, the writing and stories are always emotionally engaging and fun.
interesting story. fast paced and an odd and way too coincidental intersection of two plot lines used to wrap everything up in a neat little bow. looking forward to the next book though
I LOVE IT, I can't wait to read more in the series, Terry Spears is such a great writer. I love her wolf series, the cougar, and jaguar series.... I can't wait to read more of this series.
I've enjoyed many other books by Terry Spear and was looking forward to this book. However, I thought the characters were not very well "fleshed" out. Furthermore they were written with saint-like qualities. I found Alishia's total immediate acceptance of her fate rather simplistic. It was hard for me to finish this book.
