Beautifully written, insightful tale of an unforgettable couple, Simon (abolitionist) and Savanna (plantation owner's daughter) Bliss, living in Georgia during the days leading up to the Civil War. The issue of slavery threatens to divide their marriage as it does the Union, but their relationship endures and deepens in spite of these threats.
