Real-estate tycoon Declan Sinclair has a score to settle with on-the-run felon Livia Colton. He can't change his tragic past, but he can demolish her onetime estate. But while coming to terms with his most hated enemy, Declan bumps heads with Livia's youngest daughter, the alluring Jade Colton…

Having always felt isolated from her own family, Jade finds satisfaction in rescuing and rehabilitating Thoroughbred racehorses. And when she finds herself in Livia's crosshairs, Jade turns to Declan for comfort and protection. Can she really trust a man who's sworn to take down the entire Colton clan -- once and for all?

Good continuation of the series. It is now known that Livia Colton was hiding out in her old estate, but she has eluded capture once again. Declan bought the estate as a step in his revenge against the Coltons, but now that he has it he's not quite sure what to do with it. Even his hatred of the Colton family undergoes some changes now that his foster sister is marrying a Colton. He is also intrigued by Jade Colton.

Jade is another Colton who feels out of step with her family. Affected by the abuse received from her mother and witnessing the death of her father, she tends to hold herself apart from other people. She even keeps a distance from her siblings, though since Livia's escape from prison that has begun to change a little. Her life revolves around the horses that she rescues and rehabilitates.

I enjoyed seeing the relationship develop between Jade and Declan. Both of them have suffered because of Livia, and it is that commonality that provides a base for their relationship. It doesn't take long before they spend as much time together as possible, each one intrigued by the other. I especially liked how Declan quickly realized that Jade is nothing like her mother. Getting to know her better also opened his eyes to the fact that the other Coltons are also good people. I loved Declan's protectiveness toward Jade, not just because of what is going on, but also because he sees and appreciates how hard she works. It was really sweet to see how Declan takes care of her. Jade is also protective of Declan and steps way outside her comfort zone to take care of him in his New Orleans home after he is shot. It was an eye opener for both of them when she had to go home without him, and they realized how much they missed each other. As events in Shadow Creek heated up, they grew ever closer. I loved Declan's big moment and the surprise he had for Jade.

The suspense of the story was good. All of the Coltons were on edge, certain that Livia was still in the area and biding her time. Though she wasn't seen, she still made her presence known at Edith and River's wedding, and again after Maggie had her baby. The Coltons also had to deal with a protest group called Victims of Livia Colton and the way that it was trying to drive them all out of town. There were some very unpleasant confrontations, with people accusing the siblings of hiding Livia or knowing where she is. The final showdown with Livia was intense, as she finally tried to get what she had come back for. I loved the teamwork that brought her down. Even so, there are still some unanswered questions at the end of the book.

I continued to enjoy the importance of family. The siblings have been brought closer together by their need to stand against both Livia and public opinion. Each one has learned the importance of being able to support and be supported by the others. It hasn't always been an easy lesson, but once learned it isn't forgotten. The relationship between Declan and River was also part of this book. I loved Declan's stunned surprise at the action that finally brought them together. Declan was also able to face another part of his past and ended up with more than he expected.

I thought the previous book in this mini-series, The Colton Marine, was bad, but at least stuff actually happened in that book!

Here, absolutely nothing was happening, and I couldn't have been more bored. It's beyond me how this could even be considered romantic suspense.

Declan Sinclair now owns La Bonne Vie, and despite his assistant renovating it in the previous book, he now just wants to tear the building down. In Shadow Creek for his assistant's engagement party to his half-brother, Declan meets youngest Colton child, Jane Colton, who runs a horse rehabilitation business. She fears that the still-out-there evil matriarch Livia Colton is after her next, since she's gone after all the other siblings. Declan and Jade fall in love of the-book-demands-it variety.

Basically, this was a waste of my time.

There is no plot, first and foremost. Suspense-wise, nothing happens until page 180 of a 280 page book. Even then, Livia's threats are aimed at other members of the Colton family, not at Jade. So why is Jade the heroine of this story? I never once got a feel for any sort of threat against her.

The romance between Declan and Jane unfolds with all the snap of drying paint. I can't remember any interesting conversations between them that made me believe they were falling in love. The conflict between them made no sense. Declan states time and again that he knows Jade and her siblings are nothing like Livia, and yet in the same sentence will state that he can't trust any of them. Why, Declan? Care to elaborate? He flips back and forth on this the entire book. As horrifying as his childhood was, I actually reached the point where I thought he should just get over it and spare everybody else his misery. The fact he often refused to talk about it with Jade only made it more insufferable. Then he does just get over it, I'm presuming because the author reached her required word count.

The characters all ruminate about how evil and horrible Livia is, but she's basically off page for 98% of the book. There was zero suspense because absolutely fuck all was happening to make me believe Jade was under threat. If you're going to claim you're a romantic suspense book, you need at least a little of the latter, you know? Otherwise, what's the point?

Even though the "Dear Reader" message at the start from the author claims this is the last book in the mini-series, this ends with Livia presumed dead, but no sign of her body. We all know what that means! The "Dear Reader" message is also curiously impersonal. It's clear this book was assigned to the author as opposed to something she was actually interested in writing. Her disinterest leaps off every page.

It's boring, pointless crap with a dead romance and no suspense. The only thing you'll capture from it is a nap.

Many of the dramatic developments in the previous Coltons of Shadow Creek stories led to quite a few of the happenings that take place in this story. Some of the incidents are frightening while others are very joyous occasions, and every one of them let me know more about the Colton siblings and those who are now closely connected to them. C.J. Miller cleverly interweaves all the events to create a story filled with surprises. CAPTURING A COLTON enthralls with unexpected incidents and interesting family dynamics.

When his foster sister gets engaged to a Colton and a party celebrates the occasion, there is no way Declan Sinclair could avoid coming in contact with the adult children of Livia Colton. Though he does not really know any of them, their being related to the woman who caused his own family much suffering makes him want to avoid them if possible. Yet there is something about Jade Colton who owns the property where the festivities are taking place which fascinates him.

Since Declan, who is a realtor, has bought the Colton homestead in Shadow Creek, he is staying in the area while some decisions are being made about the house and acreage. He also takes time to visit Jade, and discovers how dedicated she is to helping Thoroughbreds that were once connected to racing and now need new homes. While talking with her, Declan comes to understand just how much she is still affected by the terrible deeds committed by her mother. Especially when there is a chance the escaped criminal could still be in the area and might pose a threat.

From the beginning of the Coltons of Shadow Creek continuity series, I have been captivated with the very complicated link between the six Colton children. Though not all have blood ties, this fact does not keep them from supporting each other when it really counts. They have certainly endured some troubling times in their pasts, but it has not kept them from moving forward and making their lives positive. I really liked how the sixth story brought some closure to different aspects of the ongoing plots, yet left one question open so the miniseries can continue.

C.J. Miller was tasked with showing how all the past couples are now doing, while also telling about Declan and Jade’s budding relationship. Though Declan has valid reasons for not liking the Coltons, he can comprehend the behavior of a person is what counts, not their ties to someone else as many of the townsfolk do. Both he and Jade are repeatedly supportive of the other, yet there were a few times when I nervously waited to see how several of their discussions would turn out because of their current inner feelings. Whether a normally concealed fact was being revealed by Declan or Jade, or if they were divulging a secret wish, I wanted this couple to find the happiness that all her siblings had found. Livia Colton has turned many lives upside-down, and the cunning woman has certainly been hard to catch. What happens in CAPTURING A COLTON is definitely intriguing.

I voluntarily reviewed the book and all comments are my honest opinion

A quick and fun romance. A bit of terror with the protesters, but some interesting reveals. All the questions/strings from the previous books are tied and finished.
