Fat, ugly, worthless. Those are words that Spencer Reeves has heard her whole life. She doesn't have model looks like her sister Tinsley does. In fact, she's the polar opposite. She's short, curvy, and has bright red hair. When she goes to college, boys are not part of her plan. Until she meets Logan.
Logan Kade only ever had one dream. He wanted to be an Emergency Room doctor. He busted his butt to get into a prestigious medical school. When his dad dies from his drinking habit, Logan is forced to return home and run his dad's bar, Takin' The Shot. He's moody, irritable, and an all around douchebag now that his dream has been taken away. It's not until Spencer stumbles into his bar that his view on the world changes.
Logan takes one look at Spencer and can tell how shy and innocent she is. He also notices that she doesn't think very highly of herself. It becomes his mission to make her see herself for how truly beautiful she is. Not everyone is happy when they start to see each other. Will taking the shot lead to a happily ever after for them? Or are there some things that even the strongest of love can't overcome?
*Warning there is a very graphic scene in this book that is intended for ages 18+* This book is about overcoming the bullies of your life, so therefore if you don't want to read a book about a very attractive man and a bigger curvier woman, this isn't the book for you. If you believe that love knows no bounds and want to keep going, then let's do this!
Takin' The Shot is much more than a love story. It's a book about a young woman who finds herself, redemption, strength, courage and living! Spencer is not your typical female lead. She has very low self-esteem and isn't described as drop-dead gorgeous. She overcomes a tragic event in high school and sets out for college- ready and determined to become a new person and escape her past. Spencer is someone who is very easy to love in my opinion. She has these moments where she shows a very tough exterior and stands up for herself, but then she has these serious moments of doubt where you just want to shake her! She's a very realistic character in the sense that we all have these doubts and fears. I believe every person on this planet has experienced bullying in some way, shape or form and unfortunately, Spencer can't seem to escape it, even when a gorgeous guy becomes part of her life. Is he too good to be true? Will she take a shot with him? I absolutely adored Logan! He's so determined to lift Spencer up, but at the same time, was not afraid to go after what he needed. I love how both of these characters grew and matured throughout the book. You see their ups and downs, their realistic choices and consequences. It's a heartbreaking, but beautiful story!
I came across this author while searching another author and when I saw the cover and read the blurb I bought and downloaded it right then. I have just finished reading this book and boy for a short read it packs an emotional punch. These characters had me feeling so many type of ways. Spencer that girl went through it with her sister Tinsley and then classmates but she met Logan and happiness comes slowly but so does heart ache. This book was such a thought provoking look into bullying and ultimately loving yourself no matter what.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book! I can't believe I didn't know who this author was this morning! I am floored by the depth and feeling that went into this book! Logan and Spencer's love story started with a shot of Jack and ended up being forever. An absolute must read!
I loved Logan and Spencer. Logan was great, but he frustrated me too, I wanted to reach through my kindle and smack him upside the head. My heart goes out to Spencer and to people in her very real situation.I read this in a few hours and couldn't put it down. The story gives you the feels. I'm hoping Tammie and Jameson get a book.
