U.S. Marshall Jack Dillon, on loan to the Irish Garda, finally gets a day off and thinks he’ll get to spend it with the lovely Lin, nurse extraordinaire and sometimes friend with benefits, but his plans get interrupted when the son of a U.S. Senator is found shot to death. He’s soon up to his eyeballs in trying to figure out who did what to whom, and Lin isn’t very happy with him.
This was a fast-paced, fun, action-packed read, with snappy dialogue, likeable characters, and well-described settings. The crimes are interesting, and watching Dillon mesh his America brand of policing with the Garda is enjoyable. I think Dillon might be my new favorite fictional boyfriend. He’s clueless when it comes to relationships, but he’s a damn good cop, and his heart’s always in the right place. This is one of the few series I’ve binge read and haven’t regretted it yet.
I highly recommend this series for those who like traditional “hard boiled” detective fiction. Dillon reminds me of a smarter, sharper, classier version of John D. MacDonald’s Fletch. You could read the books m out of order, but I enjoy them more in order. Faricy also writes the Dev Haskell, PI, series; the Hotshot series, which is a group of standalone crime stories, and the Corridor Man series (which I have yet to try, but if it’s anything like the other two, I’m sure it will become a fast favorite).
