Once the son of a US Senator is found shot to death Marshal Jack Dillon has barely begun the first of his promised three days off in over two and a half weeks when he's summoned back to work. Hard-boiled crime fiction at its craziest! They've got a body, a bullet, a name and not much more. As the case slowly begins to develop everything seems to point to want-to-be rock star and the lead singer in the local Dublin rock band Jynx, a guy named Enda Murray. But as Marshal Jack Dillon knows; Assumption isn't proof of anything. WHO WILL LIKE Fans of Dev Haskell and rascals like him. Also for fans of Robert B. Parker, Elmore Leonard, Carl Hiaasen, Lee Child, strong Minnesota men – especially when transplanted to Ireland, and drinkers of Guinness everywhere. “Faricy is the next Carl Hiaasen.” Crime Scene.

I was born in St. Paul, Minnesota, I still live there as well as in Dublin, Ireland. I've been a soldier, freelance journalist, tended bar, sold designer cakes, owned a painting and decorating company along with a number of other schemes and scams. If that doesn't offend you I also play bagpipes with the Brian Boru Irish Pipe Band. All my books stand alone, read them in whatever order you wish. They are filled with the sort of oddballs we are all curious about, but wisely, prefer to keep at a distance. None of my characters will be saving the world from terrorism, international banking conspiracies or coups to take over the government. Rather, they inhabit a world just below the surface of polite society, characters with one foot on either side of the law. The circumstances they find themselves in are usually due to bad decisions, but bad decisions lead to interesting stories. They serve not so much as an example but as a warning to us all. Thanks for taking the time, happy reading.
More adventures of Jack Dillon. All the action and humor of the previous 3 and then some. If you haven't read them yet, what a blast it will be to read all 4 in a row. Jack has plans for the weekend and they do not include work. Unfortunately McCabe has other ideas. An American student , Kevin Fitzwilliams, has been murdered in Dublin. He has a U2 t-shirt on and a recent U2 tattoo. He is also a Senator's son. This makes it a top priority. You might get a good idea of who the murderer is, but the surprise will be who helps them solve the case. It is not a real long tale, but following it you are treated to excepts from What Happens In Vegas... and Corridor Man 6.
The son of a U.S. senator is murdered in Dublin, and Jack Dillon with his Garda associates is tasked to find the killer. They dig into the music world to figure out who murdered him. A funny part of the story is when the leader of a band winds up providing valuable information but arranges to get some publicity as well.
Patrick Emmett (aka Mike Faricy) has created a likeable protagonist working in a very interesting city. A light but enjoyable mystery.
I especially enjoyed learning more about Dublin and the Irish jargon.
U.S. Marshall Jack Dillon, on loan to the Irish Garda, finally gets a day off and thinks he’ll get to spend it with the lovely Lin, nurse extraordinaire and sometimes friend with benefits, but his plans get interrupted when the son of a U.S. Senator is found shot to death. He’s soon up to his eyeballs in trying to figure out who did what to whom, and Lin isn’t very happy with him.
This was a fast-paced, fun, action-packed read, with snappy dialogue, likeable characters, and well-described settings. The crimes are interesting, and watching Dillon mesh his America brand of policing with the Garda is enjoyable. I think Dillon might be my new favorite fictional boyfriend. He’s clueless when it comes to relationships, but he’s a damn good cop, and his heart’s always in the right place. This is one of the few series I’ve binge read and haven’t regretted it yet.
I highly recommend this series for those who like traditional “hard boiled” detective fiction. Dillon reminds me of a smarter, sharper, classier version of John D. MacDonald’s Fletch. You could read the books m out of order, but I enjoy them more in order. Faricy also writes the Dev Haskell, PI, series; the Hotshot series, which is a group of standalone crime stories, and the Corridor Man series (which I have yet to try, but if it’s anything like the other two, I’m sure it will become a fast favorite).
Kevin Fitzwilliams, an American and son of a Senator, is gunned down in Ireland. It's up to Detective Suel and US Marshall Jack Dillon to figure out the case. Being a big fan of U2, Kevin came over to Ireland to try to emulate what they did, which is to become famous in a foreign country. In pursuing his dream of getting into a band and becoming famous, might have been his downfall. A decent mystery. I give it 2 1/2 stars.
Jack with Lin the nurse from his hospital stay, going to enjoy having seventy two hours off, they promised. An accident involving an American and need him. Sued, remarks this will be more fun, than what Jack had planned. Middle of the day, small caliber weapon. After Embassy is notified this will take on another meaning, with it being political. He was a student, and son of a Senator. Boy’s dream of getting into a rock band was that his downfall. Enjoyable and the answers come an usual source.
A very good crime mystery with enjoyable characters and a twist at the end. Fairly is so close to getting to being in the highest level of this genre. I'm cworksurrently reading a "Bosch" novel by Michael Connelly and I can't help but compare the two. Fairly is so close I can't help but think he'll break through. I'm certain to read more of his work.
I have loved all these books, but this one disappointed me. The ending seemed rushed. Nothing about why the murder happened, or how the victim ended up being shot through the armpit. Just a confession.
Jack's a US Marshall assigned to garda in Ireland. A musician was shot his father is a US Senator. He had a guitar signed by Bono & The Edge. His guitar, wallet & cell are missing. Jack and his partner Suel are assigned to solve the murder. Good book funny.
i had s hard time with this one. I read it for a reading challenege (Ireland). I don't know if it's the writing, the characters, or what, but I was just waiting for the book to end.
I'm gonna have to read the first book and see if it's the same way or not.
This series gets better and more enjoyable with each story. Dillon is both a good detective and something of a rogue as well and the stories are both gripping and fun.
Fantastic murder mystery solved by Marshall Jack Dillon with the help of a guitar player. Excellent series starring Jack Dillon set in Dublin. Riveting!
Jack Dillon tales are still holding it's own with the strong detective storyline. The plot is simple and I find the killer in this case was unexpected. I find myself enjoy a story more if I am not able to figure out the killer until they are revealed by the storyteller. In novel four this was the case but the motive was dismissed and the case came to abort ending. I got the feeling the author was lingering thru the novel and three quarter into the novel decided to throw a musician into the mix with a groupie for a girl friend. Who decided to kill his competition . . . I think. Left hanging with this Jack Dillon Tale.
