In a world where the Romulans discovered Earth before the Vulcans, Earth is now a brutal penal colony. Resistance fighter William Riker has uncovered a vast conspiracy, and together with his band of prisoner outlaws (you just might recognize a few!), must fight to rescue a mysterious prisoner in the darkest level of the Romulan dungeons. The only man on Earth that still holds the key to humanity's return to the stars!
I decided to read this as a little way of celebrating what Trek fans know as First Contact Day. I really like the concept of a Star Trek in which the Romulans made first contact, and seeing how that affects the TNG crew. The artwork was great in this. However, this story does not really have a conclusion and takes up a little more than half of this book while the rest is an interview and previews. So I was disappointed that there was not as much content for this story as I was hoping. And as far as I know, there's no continuation of this. Shame, really.
Having "Star Trek: The Next Generation" turn into a diet version of "Mad Max" will go down as one of my least favorite "Star Trek" experiences of all time. My only tip of the hat is that the artwork is pretty good in this book.
"If you are reading this then there is still hope. When I close my eyes I can see it. I can imagine the world as it should be. As it used to be. We can have it again. We can take it back. Together...We can become who we really are. "
