How exciting! A randomly chosen (via Kindle suggestions) book by an author I hadn't explored yet. The anticipation and fear of disappointment lingered, yet I bought it on a whim. And I'm pleased with my choice!

First and foremost, I'd like to thank JM Dragon for bestowing the character Rachael into my fictional life. She's what dreams are made of. Quiet with soulful eyes, intelligent, expressive, innocent in the most endearing way while simultaneously mature. She freaking teaches children at a Catholic orphanage, people. Did I mention she was mute because I found that a huge part of her appeal. Differently-abled women are hot, too! Duh.

Makes me want to seek out more lesbian romances about mute or deaf characters. A whole new world!

While the storyline and Rachael's love journey kept me devoted to 'Breaking the Silence', it could've used a round or two more of edits. For starters, italics used for thinking were inconsistent. Along with a lack of different formatting when Rachael wrote messages or communicated with sign language. It made for a frustrating read until I got used to it.

The main character Dilana could've had a stronger voice. I felt little for her until the midpoint and even then, she didn't win me over. Alas, Rachael wanted her and I wanted Rachael to have anything her sweet heart desired.

Celina's character came off very...tertiary. Her perspective didn't add to the story.

Nevertheless, Dragon approached religion in a non-overbearing way that I respect. I don't follow a religion, yet Catholic views weren't downplayed while agnostic/nonbeliever/secular views weren't stifled, either. Nice balance there.

The ending chapters seemed disjointed and I sort of lost track of the time period when this happened. I'd hoped for steamier sex since Rachael had been celibate for so long and Dilana wanted her so badly. Ah, well.

Overall, a solid story. If it allowed me to obsess over a fictional being, it's done its job!

The bottom line is I didn't buy this - the central character, Di, or Dilana, who apart from having a beautiful name, just didn't seem real, acted illogically and I felt no affinity with her, sorry.

I've read this book before, and I enjoyed it. But this time around, I am surprised why I enjoyed it. Maybe it's because I liked the idea of Rachel. However, the main character is a terrible, obnoxious violent person who's very unlikable. I can only imagine what a beast she'd become later on when the honeymoon phase finishes.

Further more, towards the end, there was so much repetition and love confessions that became really jarring after a while. Also, there was a random time jump that threw everything off and suddenly everything was rushed. Overall, the writing was good, but the plot and characters needed more development.

Good

The ending was disappointing. I felt they should have adopted Sam & Sadie. The writing was crisp, but the chapters seemed placed in an incorrect order.
