Step into each portal and see the twentieth century through twenty-first century eyes. In THE MINE, a cavalier college senior explores a dusty adit in 2000 and emerges in 1941 as a world war approaches. In THE JOURNEY, a recent widow tries to reconnect with her past at her thirtieth reunion and finds herself in 1979 and her senior year of high school. In THE SHOW, a jilted young woman from 1941 seeks answers in 2000 but finds them in 1918, the time of her parents’ courtship. Loved it, kept it true and current. Worth investing the time to read.

Great story, imaginary, and kept me interested throughout! The author wrote in the different eras and incorporated them beautifully. Well done, and thank you

Northwest Passage bk 1 3 The Mine, Journey & Show by John Heldt Review
Time Travel at its best 1941, 1979, 1918 and 2000! All the changes and mysteries…..

In John A. Heldt’s celebrated Northwest Passage series, an abandoned mine, a haunted house, and a theater restroom are not just curiosities. They are portals to the past. Step into each portal and see the twentieth century through twenty-first-century eyes. In THE MINE, a cavalier college senior explores a dusty adit in 2000 and emerges in 1941 as a world war approaches. What did I like? Each of these is remarkable in the history, the journeys, the characters and the interconnection of all of them. As with all of the series, you can see in each the research that went into them. The mind-boggling connections from book to book with all of the characters and the action of each plus the interconnection of the storylines. The way that John tied each to the history of the time and the connection of the characters as they developed and ran away with the storyline…. My hats off to him and look forward too many more.

What will you like?

The Mine: The first will be the humor, the characters or at least some of them are so darn funny. The next would be the mystery of the storyline. It is amusing, interesting, intriguing, captivating, charming, exciting, rousing and stimulating. I could think of a few more adjectives but I think you get the idea that the book is a good read and will keep you interested until the final page. For me, this is book one, so I am on to the next till I catch up with the author. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

The Journey: Strong characters that you will fall in love with, a storyline that grows and grows with each page. An ending that is the best that I have read in quite a while…. I loved it! The characters display emotions of sadness, remorse, happiness plus pure joy that will rock you with the turning of the pages. A storyline that is unfathomable, grows and regrows, twists and turns, leading to the readers to enthusiasm, anger, passion, judgment and intense tears of sadness. The ending is like none of the other books but was so right for this one. I am on to the next book.

The Show: Wow, what a cast of characters! Each of them is so interesting and they just keep getting better as the pages fly by. The storyline with all the twists and turns and then turnabouts I could hardly put the book down. Every page the story just keeps getting better and it grows stronger till the end. Romance, heartbreak, drama with both joy and sadness. Each of the books relates yet don’t as each have their own stories. I love that about this series. I am off to the next book. Don’t miss the rest of this series Book 4, The Fire & Book 5, The Mirror. In addition, the new Carson Chronicles, River Rising Book 1. I have read them all and can’t wait for the next edition to come out. I highly recommend EVERY BOOK in all the series!

A great read a book at my fine very hard to put down

Okay this is 3 time traveling books in one volume the first book I actually read previous say this but buying us volume that didn't recognize until 2:30 actually about 1/3 way in things. It seemed familiar but it was as part of a three-book set so that's why I was allowed to buy it the second time the middle book is different than the first to the middle book actually is a stand-alone book that really has no part in the sequel It's a very good book in and of itself what is totally separate from the first and the third volume and in reality is not connected to those two at all except for the fact that it is a time travel book it's a very interesting book in and of itself and that the main character dies in the past I thought that was very interesting and as such since you dyed it ended that particular time sequence so that book sequence. The third book in a great book and carry gone where the first one ended and as such what a very enjoyable tale with an ending that got her back with her original family in the future I think you'll enjoy all three books.

Northwest Passage: The First Three Novels

The Mine, book 1, takes the reader to Montana, a deserted mine, a college student ready to graduate, and transports him to the spring of 1941. As Joel navigates a 59 year difference, he meets some very interesting people, including the love of his life.
The Journey, book 2, takes the Michelle to her home town for a high school reunion. As she and her friends wander around an abandoned house, she is sent to 1979, her senior year in high school. As she befriends her younger self, she tries to encourage a different life than the one she originally led.
The Show, book 3, a continuation of book 1, but from the point of view of Grace, who is sent back to 1918. Happy reading! Looking forward to the next book in this series.

This is an easy and pleasant book to read, like all the books first three in this series. I was lucky enough to get all three novels for free. They are not the kind of books I usually read but I must say I did enjoy them. The author has been able to bring the characters to life and helps you realise how their unexpected experience changes their life and the difficult decisions they have to make. I don't know much about time travel but whoever experiences the jump always ends up meeting family members, albeit younger as the first jump always takes them into the past.

Great time travel series!

Wonderful time travel series! Just a heads up…the third novel is the sequel to the first novel. The second novel is also good and does make a brief reference to a main character from book one. I do wish that I had known that one and three were so strongly connected. I might have read the second one last. But all in all this was an excellent series! Whenever real life interrupted my reading -I kept thinking back to the stories and wonder how things were going to turn out!

Time travel more than once.

This is a very interesting story from several different time eras. The main characters are Grace and Joel and is about how love kept them finding each other time after time.
It leaves you thinking of so many possibilities and what would happen “if”.
There are three full books here and they need one another to make a complete story. I enjoyed this story and hope you will enjoy it too.

I love the time travel genre. I love the different places , the different eras, and the historical aspects. I have read the first 3 books in this series and feel like I hit the jackpot. The year 2000 to 1941 to 1918 to 2002, these books have a wonderful, clean storyline and great characters. Loved them!
On to book 4.

Well written novels

I have discovered a new author and really enjoy the way he tells a story. If you enjoy time travel books, you should definitely read these 3 novels in Northwest Passage. I have yet to learn if he also writes in other genres.

John Heldt delivers magnificent stories

After reading nearly all of John Heldt’s books, he is now one of my favorite authors. I’m hooked from the first chapter every single time I start one. If you love time travel with historical accuracy, read any one of his books.

Blown away by this writer's talent

The three novels are solid books in my opinion. Each book more than covers any of our"what if?" questions about time travel and provides us with strong emotional love stories.

I love all of Mr. Heldt's time travel novels. I am only giving this, set of 3 novels, a 4 star rating because I found the one novel, The Journey, too be so sad at the ending. The rest of it was excellent, but I wish the ending had not been so sad.

I really enjoyed The Mine and The Show, both of which had humorous and happy endings.

I am now reading The Fire, the 4th book in the series of 5, and am really enjoying it immensely.

I have found these books, and previous ones of Mr. Heldt's, to be very descriptive in narrative for the time periods he writes about and each book is written to keep you wanting to read and read and read till you get to the end! I can't wait to read the 5th book in this series, The Mirror, to find out what year the character(s) travel to and how it is accomplished!
