Loving this series again. Things are being explained. And Inspector Sarawat looks better in casual clothes and I am still wondering why his uniform isn't letting him breath 🤦☺️

Expecting another murder or two in the next episode 🤦

And I am hooked 👍
***Update: The author has confirmed that this book is going to be adapted into a TV series on 2nd April 2020.
Omg!!!!! I am so curious now who are going to play the main leads! I am so ready for another ship!!!! And more sleepless nights ☺️
(Read and reviewed on 19th March 2020) I simply do not care how this one ends because this book is just simply good. I am so glad I picked this book instead of forever giving up on psychological thriller/mystery/suspense altogether (because of having read too many average reads of such!). The plot is real intense and gripping. The characters are developed so well. And the best part? You do not know who to trust. I wish this book is made into a series. It's bone-chilling at times and you really feel helpless. The romance is a bit instant but nevertheless you will crave for more. Why are such good books not made into a TV series or a movie already?
*This isn't a webcomic series. *It's a full fledged Thai novel. *Genre: Psychological-murder-mystery-suspense
I maybe slightly biased with this books as I listened to the unofficial audiobook and I loved that audiobook.
First of all this is the second book of Sammon I read thus I had time to get used to the slow burn romance in her books. Second of all, I loved the fact the author does not emphasize on the romance but rather the mystery aspect of it. Especially compared to Triage this novel had a much more serious case involved in it. In all honesty the reason I picked this up was because of the TV adaptation. I truly did love Triage (which was the first book of Sammon's that I picked up) but compared to that this slightly fell short. Not in any way am I saying that this was bad, this is just a comparison. If I had to pick what really made this better than many BLs out there is the fact that this took a very realistic turn in character development. More or less, Tan did fall head first in love with Bun, but it was Bun's realistic portrayal and emotional reactions that made this novel get higher rating. Rather than making it a sappy romance novel, the author fleshed out the characters well. In my head I had no-one but Max and Tul each time I was listening to the novel and visualized the whole story in my head with them in the characters and I ain't complaining.
Although the last few chapters had mostly the romantic progress of the two I really liked the last few sentences which really brought back the whole concept of the plot to square one. This did cement the fact that I will surely read other books of Sammon for sure.
I was so excited when I came across this novel and its series adaptation. I'm a sucker for crime! Name a crime tv show and I've probably seen it. Also, I started watching crime shows when I was just a little girl (parenting gone wrong or right here?) but that kinda made me a bit "numb" to the genre now. Not a lot surprises me anymore because I have this "I've seen it all" feeling when it comes to this genre. That's also the reason why I don't really read crime books because I know that there's a high chance that I'll get disappointed. Though, I totally forgot about that when I saw that BL and crime were thrown together into one Thai novel. Manner of Death.
Three things that I like: BL, crime and Thai novels. This combination couldn't go wrong, right? Well.. I was wrong. When I said that BL and crime were thrown together into one novel, I literally meant thrown. I felt like it would have been better if it was either a crime book or a BL novel. Not the two of them together. This could have been a masterpiece if the entire novel wouldn't have been centered around the m/m relationship. Let's get more into detail.
This story is about a forensic pathologist, Dr. Bunnakit (Bun) who gets called to a crime scene for what looks like a suicide. Then the story takes off. One thing leads to another and Bun ends up investigating the case himself and it causes his life to be in danger. This sounds like a good story, right? It did start really good but while the story progressed, it went downhill for me.
Along the way Tan's character got introduced, a mysterious man who's a tutor. It was obvious from the start that Bun and Tan were going to end up together. Though, I felt really uncomfortable about their relationship most of the time because you could tell something was not right. It got to the point that I didn't even want them to end up together because the relationship didn't sit right with me. If it wasn't for the last couple of "redeeming" chapters, I would have felt like that still. But then again, I think that some of those "redeeming" chapters weren't necessary at all.
There was supposed to be a murder investigation going on but along the way it felt more like a love story between Bun and Tan instead of a crime novel. I feel like the novel started with a murder to make known that this is a crime novel. Though after that, the main couple started to get lovey-dovey with each other to the point that the murder investigation wasn’t the center anymore. And then at the end, it shortly got mentioned who the killer was and why they did it. It wasn’t explained in detail. Talking about anti-climax here? Like, MAJOR anticlimax. At least that’s how it felt like to me. To be honest, I’m pretty sure I just expected way too much from this. I think it was the plan all along to center this novel more around the relationshit (oop I mistyped that but I’m going to keep it because it does feel like that lol) than around the crime aspects. Yes, there were murders, yes there was investigating going on, yes there was crime but it all felt so plain to me.
As for Bun, pretty much everyone in the novel was saying how smart he is but it didn’t feel like that to me. For someone everyone says about that he’s so smart, he sure did make a lot of mistakes that a forensic pathologist isn’t supposed to make. I mean, trusting a murder suspect? For the love of god and people still call you smart? And then you’re surprised that the person turns out to be a bad guy. Like…Dude….? Also, I didn’t really like Bun’s personality. There were times that I really hated the things he said or did. As for Tan, I surprisingly loved his character. Though, there is so much that he did wrong too. If it wasn’t for me imagining MaxTul als TanBun, I’m pretty sure I would have disliked the novel even more.
After being let down by the crime aspects and the main couple, I put all my hope on the side couple. That and Sorawit. I was really excited about their story knowing that there was an extra chapter dedicated to them. To be honest, the extra chapter disappointed me too. I knew that I couldn’t expect much development due to it being just an extra chapter. They did a perfect job at developing their relationship in the series adaption but it kinda sucked in the novel. I felt like the only reason these boys were there was to have another BL couple. So that there would be another couple next to the main couple. The extra chapter didn’t do it for me and it would have been okay if it wasn’t included. I really felt like Sorawit and That were just thrown together so that people could have another couple to ship. I don’t like it when shipping is the only reason why a couple exists. It would have been okay if they had more chemistry or if their relationship development would have been better.
I started reading Manner of Death after watching three episodes of its series adaptation. I couldn't wait anymore to find out what happened next and who the killer was. I wish I didn't do that. To be honest, reading the novel took away the joy of watching the show, and that says a lot because I LOVE MaxTul. Though, they changed a lot compared to the novel and I'm really glad about that. This novel wasn't it for me.
Don't get me wrong from the rating, I actually enjoyed reading Manner of Death a lot. But I gotta say that I prefer the tv adaptation more (the climax was loads better.)
I always enjoy reading the povs like that of Dr Bun where the mc isn't all naive and brainless. One thing that I really loved were all the medical and forensic realated stuff in the book.
It felt like the book ended 50 pages before actually ending in terms of plot. This is where the show did better.
The story is so good and the tension between the characters it's really interesting. Imagine being a doctor that wants to uncover the truth about his friend and someone else is trying to stop you from doing that 🤭

Consigliata! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
Very dark, very dramatic -and very hot. I love how these novels are all being adapted to series and ALSO translated for the western population. Although translations are not always as good as you expect (I mean fan translations are almost always decent), still we can enjoy these great stories and support $$ the authtors.
The mysteries are so deliciously weaved and the MCs' (especially when I imagine the awesome Tul Pakorn and Max Nattapol playing them) chemistry is like a raging fire!!! I'm so glad the Thai novel got an English translation that's not so bad given the vast differences in syntax and grammar between Thai and English. What's important is that it's readable for international fans like myself!!! This is a gorgeous (and very cerebral) story that I can't wait to see in a mature Thai BL TV series to be played out by my fave Thai BL couple, #MaxTul.
Wake me up when November's here.... ^_^
P.S. To those who are wondering, the English translation is available for download in EPUB or PDF via the MEB app (which I downloaded through Google Play Store) for 400.00 Thai Baht, which can be paid using major credit cards like VISA or MASTERCARD. The app is in Thai but if you toggle the settings, you'll find that the app may be converted to English. I specifically downloaded the app to be able to purchase the English translation. The effort is worth it.
Manner of Death is my first book by a thailand writer. The book was great from the beginning. That plot of a pathologist and a teacher as romance was good. Also, the plot when the teacher ended being the right hand of the head of the mafia, was really unexpected. Although th first 20 chapters were really good, I feel that the plot was solved to early. There were at least nine episodes left and the major problem of the book was solved. I know that the nine episodes were for the romantic development, but I think this could be developed together with the case.
I really loved that the author uses medical terms and concepts throughout the story. These things give the book a more realistic feeling. And the final was great, there were no other way to end this book than with a marriage proposal and murder. The plot twist in the special chapter with the story of Sorrawit was really unexpected too.
I read that there's a second book in progress, named Transplant, I can't wait to read more of the adventures of Dr. Bunnakit and Mr. Tann.

This book kinda turns me down :-( The writing style is very mechanical and unnatural which is completely different from Triage (which I had given 5 stars and totally in love with!). It's my fault though I let Twitter got me too hyped about this book, and so I expected a lot of dark, twisted atmosphere and more complications (?). More action, less romance! I really wanted to love this book but it's a meh for me.
The drama is better just watch that. This wasn't worth it,but you know what is? Educating yourself on what's happening in IRAN rn and looking up #MahsaAmini on twitter💜
